Just thought I'd point out that Cave In's latest release was a complilation of older demos. So it's technically not "new material". That's why you have some of the harsher sound on it. Sorry if that's a disappointment!

And glad to see another King's X fan! Hope you're diggin' it. If your new to King's X, make sure you check out Dogman and Gretchen Goes to Nebraska before making your final decision on them. No that the others aren't great, but those are the ones that tend to "reach" the most people. Good material on those. Not to mention, I just read in a recent interview where Doug listed Dogman as the album to recommend to people who've never heard of them before. So there!

I already have Dogman and I love it. The funny thing about King's X is I always liked their songs when I heard them but I never bought anything. Now many, many years after I heard It's Love on the radio for the first time I am finally buying the albums.

Manilla Road - Gates of Fire
Atheist - Piece of Time [remastered]

S.U.P. - Angelus
Lemmy, Slim Jim and Danny B - s/t

and from their show yesterday:

Mesrine - I Choose Murder
Mesrine - Jack is Dead

Hey Neut, yeah, definitely don't take my word as gospel, I could be misunderstanding stuff that I've read through fan sites. It was my understanding that they absolutely recorded these songs recently, but that some were older songs that had been floating around since their hardcore days. Kinda like what King's X did with their Black Like Sunday release. Newly recorded older songs.
But like I said, I wouldn't doubt if I was wrong. I'm not that in tune with Cave In. I'm a casual fan of theirs.

As for King's X, hope you keep buying their stuff anthony! Much like Voivod, truly an underrated band. Each album has something different to offer. Groove Machine is awesome too; and Ear Candy is sweet; and Please Come Home Mr. Bulbous is adventurous. Love that band!

I think your wrong on the Cave In stuff MMM. They've been recording demos since Antenna, and they wanted to recapture the feel of their earlier death metal style. Almost all these are new songs especially the ones that have the older more brutal vibe, Some songs, such as "Down the Drain" & "droned" were recorded a few years ago and were released on an ultra rare ep cd that was given out at a concert. There is even a cover of "dazed and confussed" on that ep.

This mix of the death metal with the more prog pop psych style is the direction they are headed, kinda the best of bothe worlds.

"Trepanning" is a new song which sums up how the band is currently writting song... brutal

Perfect Pitch Black reminds me of what Opeth did on their new cd "Ghost Reveries" were they combined their old style perfectly with their new style that was clearly heard on "Damnation"

DON'T FORGET NEW KINGS X "OGRE TUNES" Just came out on the 27th. Which means I need to get my ass to a store and buy it, and so do all of you.

If you like KX I also suggest getting Ty Tabors solo releases "Moonflower Lane" and "Safety". I actually enjoy these more than most KX albums (although Dogman and Manic Moonlight are my top 2)

I forgot I bought recently:

Opeth- yeah, you know the latest one everyone is crazy about...and with good reason!!! I'm seeing them in November when they come to Atlanta. No really I am, I bought the tix..

Atheist-Unquestionable

Is this the greatest tech metal album every written?

Hey, Mustard and Schro..is Ear Candy the album that doesn't involve Doug Pinnick? He's the only thing I don't like about King's X. Love that other guy's voice so much better. Still listen to that tape you sent me way back when Mustard.

On my list to buy:

Arcturus-Sham Mirrors(?)
BioMechanical- latest
Hypocrisy-Virus
Black Flag
Akercocke-Chronozone
Collapsar- S/T

Mez, EAR CANDY has Pinnick, it wouldn't be KX without him... or Ty or Jerry for that matter. If you like the KX sound but not fond of Dougs vocals, check out Ty's solo releases, Ty's side projects: Jelly Jam, Platypus, or Jughead. Ty plays guitar and sings on all of these with a cast of all stars from other bands. They have a heavy quirky beatlesque poppy metal groove vibe, if your into that sorta cool sound. I love Ty's vocals and his playing rawks, aside from that he's a damn nice guy.

After buying everything I came across last year, I haven't bought very many cds at all this year. I did get the new Opeth though. Excellent cd. Looking forward to the show Oct. 15. Hope Lopez is back for this tour.

BUt hey, if I can buy cds as cheap as I was with CH I'll stay a member.

Nice haul for a final purchase. The Zak Wylde is an interesting listen, and really threw me whe I bought it years ago. Very laid back with a cool vibe, but I couldn't help thinking about Hootie An The Blowfish during some of the songs Tell me what ya think of it.

I pulled out some old ELO vinyl the other day. I used to love that band when I was a wee lad, now it just sounds dated to because of the vocals. TIME and DISCOVERY were fun when I was really young but after all the music I have taken in since then, those records have too much of a Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever thing happening... yuk

HA, thought I didn't see this huh!?

Uh anywas, I DO see the similareities btween Shadows and Hootie.....A friend just called that out the other day! He also mentioend another "po(o)p band, the dudes that do Mrs Jones and me.....I can't remeber their name, too drunk now

I never got my ELO or Meatloaf, to tell you the truth. I am getting 2 vouchers for that. Other than that, it's cool that BMG gave me so may bonus points for "crossing over".

That's ironic. I was actually playing The Counting Crows (Mr Jones)today at work and the girl that was working said it reminded her of Hootie. I told her the Crows have way more talent and she agreed and said that the Crows probably wouldn't end up doing commercials for Burger King either.

BMG is surprisingly very cool, although I have actually surpressed my desire to buy a bunch of stuff, they do have a pretty damn good selection. I still haven't used my freebie yet!!! Not bad specials either, like the current $4.99 deal they are running right now. I'll cave in soon and buy a bunch of cds I don't really need

I still haven't gotten into SIGUR ROS even though they are a favorite of many people who also listen to Porcupine Tree. Like Radiohead, the singers voice is just whiney and pathetic and does nothing for me. I dig the spaces music and experimental element of both Radiohead and S.R. but the singing just fuckin ruins it for me. Kinda like the exact opposite of cookie monster vocals which also have the same effect on my ears.

today's cd haul:

Kings X - Ogre Tunes (i wasn't sure i was going to buy this one because i wasn't thrill by the 30 second samples i heard, but i own everything they have released so far, so i had to buy it, and FUCK, it's a damn fine album, classix KX)

The Beatles - Yellow Submarine (the remade version from 99 when they redid the movie)

The Beatles - Help

The Beatles - A Hard Days Night

Earlier in the year I desided since I only had the Beatle Anthology 2 in my vast cd collection I purchased a bunch of Beatles cds but never picked up some of the earlier releases because I was never to fond of the poppy and cover stuff, but recently I was realizing I was missing certain songs by the Fab 4 that I really wanted in my collection, so I grab these 3 today.

I bought the remastered and enhanced Yellow Submarine on dvd when it came out years ago. It's always been one of my favorite movies to watch because of the animation and music. The one problem I've always had is everytime I hear Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band I still can't get the images of Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees out of my head, because of that horrible movie they made and I saw once as a kid.
