Haha...good deal man.

My recent purchases are the two essential releases of the past month:

Cynic 'Traces in Air'

Enslaved 'Vertebrae'

Still waiting on the Cynic. The Enslaved I've had for the past two weeks and it hasn't left my car stereo.......What a stunner of an album. Although I still think 'Isa' tops it.........very close though. Only because Isa is more metal.

A record you don't own yet? Is that possible?

As for me, I haven't posted here in months, meanwhile I bought tons of records and I'm too lazy to make a complete list here, but some highlights are the new cd's by Cynic, Enslaved, Lunatic Soul, Dungen, Jarboe and the complete Carcass dualdisc collection. So.

What do you think of the Lunatic Soul, and how would you compare it to Riverside? It's another one on my list, but I was too cheap to buy it with the Rush dvd.

The Lunatic Soul cd is fucking great. Apart from Mariusz' voice, it doesn't really sound very much like Riverside, it doesn't have heavy guitars and long proggy metal songs, it's more ambient-like, a bit like David Sylvian's solo stuph, still it's dark and obscure. I love it. Totally recommended.

thanks for the review. I've only heard one complete track and some samples, so it was hard to figure out where he was headed. It didn't make sense to me for him to do a project that sounded like a Riverside album, so I'm glad to read your comments and will definitley be adding it to my collection soon.

nothing in the mail today... still patienty waiting for my Steven Wilson "Insurgentes" limited edition dvd/cd and vinyl to arrive.

Satyricon - Age of Nero

Purchased at the show at to directly support the band.

Zonaria - The Cancer Empire

Also purchased at the show because in the face of all Slavic adversity...i thought they were good.
I was impressed.
Ljubljana (Slovenia fuckers) and Zagreb both hated them.
It is unknown as to why except it seems to me the Slavic people in general...have no imagination.

Got Maiden's "Live After Death" for Christmas.

"Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." Dave...when I was typing that I thought......"Shroed will love this.." Buy asap. Its beyond brilliant. And you know what's funny is that critics said they were just playing average at this gig. If this was 'average' I can't imagine what a 'decent' show would be for them...........Every WHO fan should own this..or even anyone remotely interested in rock....

Goon Moon - Licker's Last Leg (Chris Goss from Masters Of Reality heads up this band, so I had to check it out... not bad)

THE WHO - At Kilburn 1977 dvd )after hearing Mez rave about this one, it was a no brainer... now to find time to watch it)

BOOK: Pink Floyd and Philosophy 'careful with that axiom, eugene' (a gift from my girlfriend's son... this is going to be a very insightful read)

MEZ!!!! WTF????

Picked up the GET THRASHED dvd yesterday, watched the main movie and now working my thru the bonus footage. Very cool documentary, and great lineup of people that contribute.
My girlfriend bought me a copy of Revolver Legends mag a week ago while I was sick and Get Thrashed is like the video version of many of the things discussed in most of the mag.
Definitley worth the $15

Yeah, seriously this Axl Rose album has some great songs on it. The first three in fact might be in the realm of brilliant. He's got some hellacious musicians working with him and it really shows. An impressive piece of work.

Don't you find the bonus footage on GET THRASHED to be kind of a waste? "Uh, yeah, Coroner....now that was a sick band man!" I thought it was so monotonous....course I thought the whole thing was pretty lame but the 'bonus' stuff especially was horrible.

heh heh... I was talking about this with a mate last night. He described it as "exactly what you'd imagine an Axl Rose solo album to sound like". Probably the most accurate review I've heard!

The bonus material on Get Thrashed got a bit redundant, but I thought it was cool they touched on so many different bands. I'm glad they included it.

I really haven't liked anything I've heard on the radio regarding the new GnR. To me it sounds like it's way outdated material and it might have been half way decent 10 years ago (or however long it's been) when it was originally suppose to come out. Maybe I just haven't heard the right somgs off of it, but then again I don't have any desire to listen to them. It is interesting to read a thumbs up critique from someone like you, Mez, who I know has a good ear for quality (usually, but not always) music.

Anyway, here's some new goodies I picked up:
Queensryche - MindCrime at The Moore (2dvd)

Metal Church - This Present Wasteland (i was shocked by how much I liked this one... more like the classick Metal Church material than the last release was... damn good)

King Crimson - Live In Philadelphia August 26 1996 (collectors club release - double trio lineup)

Kings X - Live and Live Some More Dallas '94 (2cd)

Ty Tabor - Balance (excellent)
