Well, live & learn. The CARNEY stuff is lame and disappointing. I really liked the video for TESTIFY and the live clip they did with Bohemian Rhapsody/She Ain't Heavy... but the cd, cd single and especially the Spiderman soundtrack just doesn't make the grade for me.

The Skid Row however for pretty impressive, and they prove they don't need Seb Bach to put out something cool.

Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick 2
Prong - Carved Into Stone
Jethro Tull - Aqualung 40th Anniversary Special Edition (i really wanted the deluxe version with the 5.1 mix, vinyl, and all the other stuff but not being a hardcore Tull fan I couldn't justify the cost, so I settled for the one with Steven Wilson's new stereo mix and extras which I heard was incredible)
King Crimson - Live in Argentinia 1994 dvd audio (with a sticker & a magnet!!!)

Took these home the other day...

- Manilla Road: Crystal Logic
- Manilla Road: Open The Gates

Both of these are the CD reissues on Shadow Kingdom Records. Nice booklet and good sound for only $11.99 brand new. Totally worth it....

...and the cover art for Open The Gates just rules!

Iron Maiden Dance of Death.

Being a fan of the older work,i did not know this album was so damned good!!
I read somewhere this album is in the top 5 of all maiden albums voted by fans. So I bought it for just €8,

what do you think, shall I continue with buying virtual XI and Death on the Road?

I originally hated DANCE OF DEATH when I first bought it, but now I love it. Watching it performed live on the Death on the Road concert dvd changed my mind, and Pashendale alone makes it worth the price... fuckin' epic tune.

Avoid at all costs Virtual XI, and The X Factor... Blaze just sucks IMHO. They would have done better to get DiAnno back in the band after Bruce left or convinced John Arch to join (that would have been incredible).

Ever since Dickinson rejoined they just keep evolving, and everything they have released since his return is worth picking up.

I like Dances Of Death, but the cover is the by far the worst of their enture discography.

Picked these up today...

- Creedence Clearwater Revival: Green River [40th Anniversary Edition]
- Manilla Road: The Courts Of Chaos

Loving these Manilla Road reissues!

I agree with ya XD on the shitty cover on DoD. What the fuck were they thinking to let that be used. At least the art work during the dreaded Blaze years was cool. Maiden ditching Derek Riggs is like YES not using Roger Dean or RUSH not using Hugh Syme. Although after reading Riggs book, he was getting bored with doing the whole Eddie thing.

Anyway, today's mail contained:
OZZY OSBOURNE - Speak Of The Devil dvd (I can't wait to watch this, but since I usually watch concerts while running on the treadmill it'll have to wait until I get back on it and finish watching the last 2 songs on the Velvet Revolver Live dvd before I watch Ozzy)

GENESIS - 1981/2007 The Movie Box (contains the dvds for: Three Sides Live + The Mama Tour + Live At Wembley Stadium + The Way We Walk Concert + Rarities DVD + space for the When In Rome dvd)

not sure why I've been on a Genesis obsession lately but I've been enjoying it

Need to spend more time listening to Genesis, for sure. Lots of good stuff in their earlier recordings, but I haven't properly taken them all in yet.

Just these today...
- The Stooges: s/t album [2 disc reissue]
- The Michael Schenker Group: Live At Budokan!

And on vinyl...
- Morbid Saint: Spectrum Of Death [Relapse Records 2012 reissue]

Morbid Saint!!!!!!!!

A bit late to the party but I LOVE Dance of Death. I never understood all the hate towards it. Having seen Maiden live on that tour performing Paschendale, journeyman and face in the sand may have something to do w/it. I love the big epic vibe it has.

I really enjoy this proggy thing they're doing now: it's not instant gratification at all, but once it grows on you, it's quite enjoyable.

BTW, my latest CD purchase:
Memory Garden - "Tides"

A nice haul. All used CDs, all at once.

- At The Gates: Slaughter Of The Soul
- Cryptopsy: No So Vile
- Diamond Head: Lightning To The Nations [aka The White Album, 2001 reissue on Sanctuary Records]
- Forbidden: Forbidden Evil
- Motorhead: What's Words Worth? Recorded Live 1978
- Onslaught: Power From Hell
- Sacrifice: Forward To Termination [2-disc reissue]
- Sacrifice: Soldiers Of Misfortune [2-disc reissue]
- Sadus: Swallowed In Black
- Sadus: A Vision Of Misery
- Sadus: Out For Blood
- Saint Vitus: Live
- Trouble: Psalm 9

Some guy unloaded TONS of metal at a nearby shop after having some sort of spiritual awakening, so I hear. I'll be going back in a couple of days for another round, I think... the OCD is making me crazy, haha.

Damn, beautiful haul there Mike. I'm jealous. 'None So Vile' alone was worth the trip! Terrific piece of music.

Hey Schroed, I never knew you were a Genesis fan. Earlier this year, I sat in for a friend to do a set of prog covers and we did "Watcher of the Skies", "Supper's Ready" (only the last 7 minutes) from the Foxtrot album, and "In that Quiet Earth" from the Wind & Wuthering album. It turned out pretty damn cool. In fact, "In that Quiet Earth" translates into a pretty damn good heavy/dark song.

Agreed! It's been the one eluding me for years and having this just about wraps up the Cryptopsy collection... I will not be buying the Unspoken King, haha.

Couldn't help myself and took another pass on the way home from work today and found these...

- Napalm Death: Leaders Not Followers 2
- Sadus: Chemical Exposure
- Sacrifice: The Ones I Condemn [deluxe edition]
- Spiritual Beggars: Demons [w/Live in Japan bonus disc]
- Warpig: s/t album [reissue on Relapse Records]

And that concludes my CD budget for the time being, haha.

Damn nice finds XD. Ya gotta love when metal heads turn moron and think by finding God they can't enjoy great music anymore. DUMBFUCKS!!! Their loss is our gain.

Vince (aka MMM), that sounds like a fun night of music. I have to be in the right mood for the Gabriel years of Genesis. That early material takes a lot of listening to for me to get into it and enjoy it; but the more I do the more I like it.

It's kinda like the last Iron Maiden album "The Final Frontier"... which I actually think is too long, and oddly enough I probably might enjoy it more if the same songs were spaced out on 2 cds giving it a break 1/2 through might help because it seems to drag a bit in that proggy kind of way. However the more I listen to it the more I enjoy it... I just get a bit bored towards the end of it.

I tend to listen to the middle period of Genesis the most. A couple albums after Peter left but before they became a little too commercial friendly (although I find myself enjoy those songs a lot more now, since I don't hear them that often anymore). I probably spin DUKE more than any of the other ones.

Recently in the mail:
GENESIS - When in Rome 2007 3 dvd set
