KING CRIMSON - August 7 2008 Chicago Park West - DGM LIVE
This show kicks ass, and is a brutal reminder of how incredible KC still is. After seeing them on this tour this is a great souvenier to help relive the Keswick show I attended.

Also just recorded Joe Satriani May 11 1988 California Theatre San Diego from Wolfgang's Vault

A buddy of mine alowed me to download a couple of Red Sparowes albums and a White Rainbow album from one of his MP3 accounts. COOL INSTRMENTAL STUFF
http://www.mp3fiesta.com/ has tons and tons of albums, and boots, and rare outta print stuff at insane prices. I doubt the artists make shit from this but it's a good way to hear something before buying a hard copy and a lot cheaper than Itunes.

I need to see if they have the latest TROUBLE album

I bought the last album from Suffocation at the Carcass show. Wow, what a great live band!

Also just finished watching the 'Get Thrashed' documentary I ordered from Amazon. I thought it was pretty good. I got a little bored from watching the same interviewees over and over...but there were some cool moments. The part about the life on the Road was cool.

Also the 'Reign in Blood' book from Amazon. Just started it....should be a good one.

I gotta get that GET THRASHED dvd, it looks cool from the clips I've seen already.

I just started reading the REIGN IN BLOOD book also. It should have some pretty good behind the scenes info and probably a lot of stuff I'll remember from reading all the metal mags back in the day.

David Gilmour - Live in Gdansk (2cd-2dvd)

the Slayer Reign in Blood book was pretty cool. It had some good behind the scenes stuff and lots of quotes from those directly involved and those inspired by the greatest thrash album of all time.

The Masters Of Reality Black sabbath book was a bit strange because it was written like a fiction book from the point of view of a teenager who gets locked up in a hospital because his parent thought he needed "help", and it's set up like you're reading his journal. There's no quotes from anyone involved in making the record, no real research involved, and some of the things written about Sabbath, like Gillan replacing Ozzy aren't even true. Certainly not what I expected, but an interesting quick read from a unique point of view and how MoR effected this character.

Watched 'Get Thrashed' again and this time really thought it was lousy. Anybody could have directed that because all the guy did was go around and ask the bands questions. Then divided it up. How boring. And the special features was particularly weak. Sam Dunn should have done this one. Blockbuster has it on the new release shelf....worth a rental but not a buy.

Reign In Blood book was a little better but still pretty much a hack job. Except for some of the biographical material and what happened in the studio...I learned nothing new. Much of it was rehash and again the writing was just poor IMO.

thanks for the warning on Get Thrashed, Mez. I'll rent it... maybe.

It's too bad those 33 1/3 mini books aren't written better. It's a great idea but the writters don't seem like they'd have much more than high shool english on their resume. One of us should write a Voivod book and have them print it up.

This hasn't been a particularly nice year, at least for CD shopping. Last time I bought a CD was late January.

Anyway, life is not totally bad when you get these two little gems:

VOIVOD - Nothingface

I already had "Nothingface", what I finally got is the MCA version of the CD. Super cool, I only had the shitty Noise edition.

AC/DC - Plug Me In (3-Disc version)

If anybody here doesn't have it yet, my advice is to go buy it as soon as you can. I got mine as a gift from my dearly beloved, hehehehe. It's 3 DVDs of live material from all the eras of the band. Great stuff, even better than Family Jewels.

"Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." Seconded. I love Daylight Dies, they totally rule! You also know Dismantled Devotion ?
Wonderful, dedicated production, great vibe, compared to some old tired millionaires called mtallika for instance.

Long time no see, eh? That's why I greet you from the frosten city of Zurich, Switzerland, where as a matter of fact I live next to some frostie called Martin Ain.

Cheers, S.

Schroeder, can you listen to music using each ear independantly like some heavy metal chameleon? I can't figure out how anyone can have so much time to devote to listening.

I only have my 3 hour a day commute, but thats still not enough.

btw - Burning Beard = great video!

BURNING BEARD video is GREAT!!!!! There's lots of great CLUCH vids on youtube. I downloaded most of them with KeepVid.com

theres only so many double kick drum'd songs with singers shouting the F word you can take before it becomes extremely dull.

It's pretty rocking (Smith has a heavy foot on the wah-wah), but it's a grower (didn't quite get me on first listen).
