Songs of the Century - An All Star Tribute to Supertramp (one hell of a line up of great musicians got together for this tribute... it should be a good one)

The Prog Collective (billed as the biggest prog rock supergroup ever assembled. Billy Sherwood & Chris Squire put together some original tunes and got a bunch of talented friends to pluck strings, beat skins, vocalize, twiddle with keyboards... my ears will let me know if they live up to their legendary status. This will either be incredible or suck shit)

The Prog Collective was a total let down... pretty damn boring. The Supertramp tribute has some good stuff on it, but the original versions are much better. Still nice to see them get a tribute from fellow musicians.

today's mail:
GENESIS - The Platinum Collection (still on my Genesis kick)

you can always tell I'm single and not in a relationship when I dominate this thread... more than usual.

I don't know man....I've been on a spree to lately. I am actually buying more music than I have time to listen too. A very pleasant problem to have.

Grateful Dead- Dick's Picks Vol. 4 (Live at the Fillmore East....love this era of the Dead..and this particular set is awesome..way better than their official live albums)

Alice In Chains- Facelift (Haven't heard this one since it first came out when I'd bought it on tape..this should be fun)

Robby Krieger- No Habla

GOOD STUFF, thanks

I know, leaves me craving more, as I would believe these 2 blokes any fucking day over Sharon or Ozzy (I named $haron first because she tells Ozzy what to say haha).

Hey, do you have much stuff by Paul Di'Anno? After reading his book I looked up his discography and never realized how many projects he has been involved with over the years.

I have a couple things by DiAnno. He can be hit or miss with his releases.. Nothing is ever going to top what he did in Maiden.

I remember when that GOOGMAGOOG project came out years ago and I was so excited because it had DiAnno, Clive Burr, Pete Willis (who gave Def Lepp their balls) and a couple other guys, and then when I played it ... TOTAL SHIT!!!! Sold my copy many years ago and at least I made a profit,, which was the best thing I could say for Googmagoog.

Battle Zone was pretty cool from what I remember.

$hannon is definitely Ozzy brain. Ozzy has certainly been blessed with having talented lyricist with him all through his career.. Granted his voice and melody lines help make the song, but even Ozzy couldn't polish shit lyrics to make them cool. Bob wrote a lot of classic songs, and Shannon was stupid for letting him go.

Ughh... hated that Dianno book. Ok, we get it you partied and caused a lot of fucked up havoc. It was like a Motley Crue book (who I hate btw) with all those dumb stories. His Killers and Battlezone things had their moments though. He is horrendous live now though. Saw twice and he pisses his way thru the songs in ridiculous voice. First 2 Maidens are of course godly but he has long been a sad shell.

Bought recently:
OM - Adavaitic Songs
GOSPEL OF THE HORNS - Ceremonial Conjuration
DISMEMBER- Where Ironcrosses Grow
MOTORHEAD - Another Perfect Day (VINYL)
UNION MADE - 7 inch (VINYL, signed by Snake)
WARHAMMER - The Winter of Our Discontent
YOUNG GOD RECORDS - promo sampler
SWANS - preorder - The Seer

I saw him 2 yrs ago and he sounded pretty good, maybe it was the beginning of the tour before he "tour" his throat up with various substances haha.

The book was entertaining to say the least, who knows how much of it is really true, he seems like one to exaggerate--but what he's exaggerating about is already pretty fucked up to begin with!

I just came across some stuff he did with Dennis Stratton in '97 and it's not that bad for what it's worth, hard rocking 80's music. Try and check out "The Original Iron Men".

BTW Dismember RULES! Too bad they are no more

Picked up a few CDs this week...

- Can: Flow Motion [remaster]
- Gentle Giant: s/t first album
- Las Cruces: Dusk
- Metallica: Creeping Death/Jump In The Fire EP

Remember this one?

Always had the 12-inch EPs of both, but hadn't seen this CD floating around in AGES. Had to have it, haha.

My Genesis compulsion continues:
Genesis - The Archives Volume 2 1976-1992 (3cd) tons of great unreleased material
Genesis - 1970 - 1975 (box set of cd & dvd with 5.1 mixes & videos of: Trespass + Nursery Crime + Foxtrot + Selling England by the Pound + The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway + Extras 70/75)

I just need the 1976-1982 Box set to complete the box collection but the price is too high for it... I should just get drunk one night and order it when I'm in a "What The Fuck" mood!!! Although I usually don't need to get drunk to get in those moods when it comes to buying music.

The last of all the box sets I needed...
GENESIS - 1976 - 1982 (a trick of the tail - wind & wuthering - and then there were three - duke - abacab - extra tracks -- all on cd & dvd audio with extras and 5.1 mixes. All 5 box sets are amazing. I'm surprised more classic prog bands haven't done the same thing. Pink Floyd's reissued their catalog numerous times but with nothing really extra aside from the 3 immersion boxes from WYWH - DSOTM & The Wall.
King Crimson is getting their entire catalog remixed by Steven Wilson which is incredible. Just seems Genesis were the leaders on this and taking full advantage of the new technology and surround mixing, along with giving the fans lots of extras.

So glad to inspire ya, Dave! Let me know how the book is

I've been on some insanely pseudo-homo 80's hard rock/glam thing lately, but the more I listen, these bands aren't glam at all--I'm talking about W.A.S.P. and Dokken

Yes, early WASP and early Dokken to me aren't glam, just hard rock; more in the vein of metal, given the guitar riffage. I think with the right direction these bands would have been total metal acts and not submerged so much into the "hair metal/buttrock" quagmire.

I'm rambling again LOL. Point of story: Re-discover WASP and Dokken. (80's)

PS: I've been listening to them since '84 anyways, I was sucked into the media crap

A nice little haul of new CDs from a used shop I hit up in Grand Forks, ND this week. Some stuff I'd never owned on CD before and they were stupid cheap.

Blue Oyster Cult - Cultosaurus Erectus
Scorpions - Taken By Force
Rush - Power Windows (I`d forgotten how shitty this album was lol)
David Gilmour - About Face
Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare
Ozzy - Bark at the Moon

A little note about Bark at the Moon (and especially interesting considering the earlier post...

I didn`t notice that the CD I bought was a remaster, I thought it was merely a reissue, but as soon as it started playing I knew there was a huge difference in the sound compared to the record that I`ve spun a thousand times over the years. I knew that Blizzard and Diary had been rerecorded (and I still have the original `95 remasters of those and the vinyl), but man, did they ever butcher Bark in the remastering. The mix is terrible, some lead bits are different takes, and it`s just plain NOT the record I know rather well I must say. Interesting to have in the collection, but there was no need to remix the record.

Iommi & Gillan - Who Cares (2 cd compilation)

Dublin Death Patrol - Death Sentence
Dublin Death Patrol - DDP 4 Life

Katatonia - Dead End Kings

Alanis Morissette Havoc & Bright Lights

Genesis - Turn it on Again:" The Hits - Tour Edition (2 cd) & The Video Show (dvd)

I also had the extreme pleasure of fellow VVF Hexo and his family stop by my house yesterday to hang out for a while and talk music and tour the Schroeder Music Museum. It was nice of them to take time out of their vacation to come see me, and finally put a face to one of the many great people on this forum.

Oh man, that sounded like a fun time! A tour of the Schroeder Museum led by the archivist himself?? Wow, now that would be something. Of course, as we know its not a perfect place thanks to the addition of the Morrisette album ...but still a place I'd love to visit one day.

Yeah, that was a great collectaholics anonymous therapy session. Fun stuff: I only have two Aerosmith CDs, found them cheap ($1?) in some godforsaken used CD store in NJ on my very first visit to the US. Now it appears that Dave also has exactly the same ones. Bonus points to those who can correctly guess which ones are those.
But looks like the therapy part of it failed though. Turns out Dave didn't know about regional Amazon sites (such as .co.uk, co.jp etc.) that could have vastly different rare items available from marketplaces sellers than the more familiar US site. Now he knows. What have I done???
But the museum is not a joke btw, it's real museum with tons of real rare exclusive you name it rock memorabilia, half of it signed, all craftily framed and tastefully hung all around. Dave should start collecting money for the privilege of seeing it. But I guess he's just too cool for that cheap sellout.
