Finally received my Target Earth Box Set in the mail yesterday, which seemingly took forever to ship from California to Washington.

Aside from the typical cookie monster vocals that I could do without, Martyr's music is great. I still need to make time to watch the dvd, and I don't think it's one I could watch while running on the treadmill, like I do with most of my concert dvds. Blast beats and death metal just don't do it for me when I'm running.

Today's mail:
VOIVOD - Nanoman (3 track promo cd with Erosion + Vortex)

Book: Innerviews Music without Borders - Extraordinary Conversations with Extraordinary Musicians

picked up at the show last night:
Flotsam & Jetsam - Ugly Noise (awesome album)

For the new single collectors: I've got a spare copy of astronomy domine/unknown knows CD, no covers (should have a back cover, I can print a copy). The first one to reply "ME WANTS" gets it for free.
I also have a spare, but scratched copy of The Nile Song. The first track is scratched significantly and might skip while playing, the second track is good. Goes together with Astronomy, if I can find it.

Picked up Tomahawk's vinyl box set "Eponymous to Anonymous" at the show for only $40, still has the RSD (record store day) release sticker on it, I was under the impression these sold out last year but when I just checked amazon they said they are getting some on backorder, hmmm. I want something rare for cheap, dammit! Haha, anyways, it's basically just all 3 of their albums. Now I need to buy their new one on vinyl because they specifically left a space in the box for it, and I want it too of course

I totally forgot they left the space for ODDFELLOWS in the box... thanks for the reminder!!! I bought the box set thinking the same thing, but I guess they didn't sell too many or they made to many and it's still available. Either way it's a cool collection. I've never been thrilled with ANONYMOUS, and actually returned the cd to the store after it came out because it did nothing for me, but now I at least have the vinyl of it in the box set to give it a chance once in a while. You definitely NEED Oddfellows on vinyl, and it was only $12.99 on Amazon when it came out. I love it, great album.

I was/am not amused with 'Anonymous' either, but I have to admit it is an honorable gesture towards native americans, they should at least donate money or something haha, messing around with shit like that can get you cursed I would imagine! And I do have the 'Oddfellows' CD, along with a piece of paper:

And YEAH Dotrot, I think the pics make things all the more interesting!

4ARM - Submission for Liberty (this is the Australian thrash band that opened for the Testament - Overkill - Flotsam gig, and they were a perfect with the old school masters)

Roger Dean - Views (book) I've had a paperback original edition for many many year but the binding was never that great, and this is an updated hardcover and it's awesome. Dean was always a major influence on me, and just his artwork lured me into buying records by bands I had never heard of. Dean and Storm Thorgerson are GODS in my eyes, and just as important to rock music as the talented musicians that play the music.

I totally identify with what you're saying about buying albums based on his artwork. He is a master, and I'm jealous that you have this book!

Puscifer - Donkey Punch the Night
Genesis - Live The Way We Walk The Shorts
Deep Purple - Burn
Deep Purple - Come Taste The Band
Deep Purple - Stormbringer
(after reading Glen Hughes book, I finally decided to add these to my collection. Deep Purple is still nothing without Ian Gillan, but I'll give these a shot anyway)
Pinnick Gales Pridgen - Pinnick Gales Pridgen

I think 'Burn' is a pretty damn great album, 'Stormbringer' has some fine moments album as well, especially the title track and "Soldier Of Fortune". I still have to hear 'Come Taste The Band'. I can take Deep Purple without Gillan, but Blackmore also missing is too much (though Tommy Bolin did a stellar job on Billy Cobham's 'Spectrum' album).

I respectfully disagree that DP is "nothing" without Gillan. Burn is fucking GREAT! I love the Gillan-fronted MkII, but MkIII comes out with all guns blazing on that record. AR already summed up Stormbringer, which is worth the price for the title-track alone, even if less consistent. Come Taste The Band is a decent album and totally worth checking out. More funk/soul than what people generally want from Deep Purple, but it's a good record nonetheless! I went through a DP obsession about 5 years ago and really found a lot to love on these 3 records.

Check out Sail Away on Burn... Coverdale practically sets the template for Chris Cornell's vocal approach in Soundgarden some 15 years later. Kidding around, but the similarity is uncanny.

After listening to the 3 Deep Purple albums that are Gillan-less I must say that they're pretty damn good. They just don't remind me of what I think of when I think of Deep Purple.
I'm sure after a few more listens to each disc I'll appreciate them more and more.

It was kind of the same thing I went through with Phobos, Nagatron, and Kronik. I just associate Snakes vocals with Voivod and to hear someone singing in the band just throws me for a loop. I have a hard time accepting it for some stupid reason, but when I finally do, I realize how great those album are. It's weird because I've never had a problem with all the different singers in Black Sabbath, Yes, and King Crimson... I'm just dumb sometimes!!!
BTW: I love what Steve Morse has brought to Deep Purple. His style reinvigorated the band. I do miss Jon Lord being gone. He brought something to the band that all the other keyboardists can't replace or come close to matching with their own style.

Oh, and I received:

That's a cool version of Phobos just for the different cover. My Voivod collection is starting to mimic my Porcupine Tree and King Crimson collections in regards to all the multiple versions I'm accumulating of each album.

Funny you mention KC and such, I just discovered the Slow Music (link) show I saw back in '06 was up in LOSSLESS format thru a website that undeniably seems realted to Mr. Fripp himself, and I can verify this because my CC account lists it as "Inner Knot" haha.

I think EVERY online download should be offered in a lossless format, because anything less is a rip-off. Should be the same exact data as a CD. I'm glad to see a bunch of mp3 prices have gone down considerably over the past couple of years because people recognize and call this shit out.
