quote: Angel Rat, how did you get Mars Volta and Riverside? They don't get released till Nov 8th!!! You must know special people... ya lucky bastard. I did get a cdr of the Riverside and fuckin love it. Hows the Seiges Even?[/QB]
Hah! Seems like us Europeans always get stuph earlier. Didn't know myself that The Mars Volta was available yet. Just stumbled upon it at my local record store. The Riverside album was released here one week ago. Damn good this one! Sieges Even... Need to listen to this one more. It's quite complex. Fates Warning fans will love this, although it's not quite the same... -------------------- "Appearing like Ra"

Well, I was hoping to pick up a bunch of new releases today but it seems many of them got pushed back a week or two from what I originallt read.Anyway, I picked up Mars Volta - Scab Dates even though I was going to scratch this off my list. Their official site has the new cd streaming and I liked what I heard. I wasn't really impressed with Francis the Mute, but this live cd isn't too bad. Since I had a coupon for buy one used cd or dvd and get the next one free, you know I couldn't leave without using that!!! So I picked up 2 dvds Saving Private Ryan and X-Men 1.5... the visual and audio assault alone was worth getting these. The X-Men 1.5 has a second dvd crammed with extra and Savung Private Ryan is worth it just for in incerdible opening scene. I stopped at another store before coming home and grabbed Stream Of Passion special edition cd/dvd... thanks for informing me about them Mez. Not to bad at all. -------------------- yawn

IMMORTAL - Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism; JUDAS PRIEST - Angel Of Retribution; STRAY CATS - Rumble in Brixton DVD (super cool);and my beloved one gave me as a birthday gift: AC/DC - Family Jewels All I can say about it is, if any of you didn't yet, BUY IT. Steal the local bank, sell your mom, sell your body, but I'm quite sure everyone here NEEDS this DVD. Was it clear? -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." Totally agreed. Some songs are far better than others, of course, but the album as a whole is great, no weak songs. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." Almost forgot. Got:ROLLING STONES - A Bigger Bang. I'm surprised. I would never think they would release such a tremendous album in 2005. It often reminds me (no kidding) of Exile On Main St. That's saying a lot in my book. Highly recommended. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." RUSH - R30 dvd/cd set (getting ready to watch this after I'm done here ) RUSH - Power Windows remastered (the only other one I needed that BMG didn't have... now I can replce all my original Rush cds) Porcupine Tree - Stars Die digipac version (I of course have the original box set of this one but needed this version for my completist obsession with PT) WAR OF THE WORLDS - dvd (just finished watching this, and it was visually and sonicly amazing. my floors and wall were vibrating the whole with the dts surround cranked. kick ass movie, although the ending was too fast) -------------------- yawn

The album is better than their last three ones, sure. It got some real nice tunes: "Laugh, I nearly died" and the second track (don't know the name at the moment). But there are many stinkers too. "Streets of Love" for example is one of their most terrible songs ever. The poppy bass play of Jones is often a pain in the ass. Don't want to be to negative. I'm happy they did something more Rock than the last albums, but you know, when I think of their great works of the past. The last album, that I really loved and still do is "Tattoo You". All works after that have more filler than killer for me. My two cents.

Stephen O'Malley is my personal lord and saviour. Seriously, the guy is a phenomenal artist and musician. Visit his website, Ideologic.org, regularly.I don't know, I can't explain why I like it (can anyone actually quantify their personal tastes?), there's just something about a wall of ambient drone when I'm in a certain mood. There aren't many bands that can really tap right into the pulse of that thing called "atmosphere", but Sunn O))) are one of them. It's enthralling. I'd love to see them live, actually. Yes, I have the new Akercocke, and I like it very much. A lot proggier than the last one, but at the same time tighter and far more mature. I miss the big, epic songs like "Praise the Name of Satan" (first few minutes of that song is awe-inspiring), but they've cut out a lot of the guff and filler from their sound. I likey.
