DEEP PURPLE - House Of Blue Light. My personal had-on-vinyl-need-on-CD series. EXHORDER - Slaughter In The Vatican/The Law A recent Roadrunner re-release, two CDs on one pack, for the price of a single CD! Oh, and they ARE everything everyone has been praising about here. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." Recent aquisitions:Dream Theater - Awake much better than the last snoozefest I bought by them (Falling Into Infinity). There's actually some heavy stuff here! Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger I used to have this years ago and lost the damn thing. Jesus Christ ose and Room A Thousand Years wide are the best tracks Soundgarden has ever made imo. and on Friday... Into Eternity - Buried In Oblivion
Holy shit! This album is simply amazing! Techincal Death/Thrash/Prog from Regina, Saskatchewan. Picture Death crossed with Dream Theater and you're sort of there. Bought it at their show here on the 6th. Incredible live too. Only got to stay for 4 tunes though. Problems at work (I snuck away to see the show), so I had to go back. Go buy this album now. Now dammit!

I have quite a few here...1. Raymond Scott - Manhattan Research Inc. A true delight in every sense. I just recieved this thing in the mail, and it is THE COOLEST! Two action-packed CDs with a 144-page book sandwiched between them; and this ain't just some flimsy pamphlet - we're talking a real hardcover book! There's enough info in here about this essential pioneer of electronic, cartoon & ambient music to make your eyes bug out in an exceedingly Space Age and Tex Avery-esque manner. Included are interviews with Robert Moog and Herb Deutsch, tons of pictures of Scott and his multitude of associated commercial products, plus schematics and tech-talk for his array of musical inventions... ::deep breath:: not to mention an article about his work with Jim Henson - all that and tons more. The packaging and design are quite retro and it's all just superbly done. Next to Cardiacs, this guy has been my most fascinating discovery of the last few years. Here is the official site, which equally as informative and well-done: http://www.raymondscott.com/ This was an unbelievably righteous purchase. 2. Department of Crooks - Plan 9 From Las Vegas How lucky can I be? I scored this rare, campy and highly entertaining one-off project from the late guitarist Marc Moreland of Wall of Voodoo fame... for a BUCK, mint condition. A great album, but a bittersweet listening experience for sure; nearly two years now since Moreland died at WAY too young an age. The closing track (the somber, Johnny Cash-esque 'New York City') is one of the best things Marc has ever written. 3. Ahvak - s/t Full-on Avant-prog in the vein of 5uu's and Thinking Plague. This stuff manages to be unbelievably complex, yet totally accessible and fresh all at the same time. Highly recommended for the adventurous types. http://cuneiformrecords.com/bandshtml/ahvak.html *4. (Various Artists) - The Outsider - An Aural Channeling of H.P. Lovecraft A VERY DARK ambient set. I'd play it for background music next Halloween, but the kids would run away screaming. Anyone into Dissecting Table or the darker days of Controlled Bleeding will feel right at home here. *5. Tugend - Optimism is for the Weak These guys are featured on the above compilation. Atmospheric gloom and doom, inspired by specific events of World War II. 6. Steve Hackett - Live Archive 03 Just recieved this bad boy in the post as well. I'm most of the way through Disc 1, and so far I am totally impressed. The sound quality, Steve's vocals and guitar work, the supporting musicians, and the song selection (barring the unfortunate omission of 'Tigermoth' these days) - are all top-notch. (as is the AUTOGRAPHED CD booklet ) There is quite a bit of sax here which I am not thrilled about or accustomed to hearing in Steve's music, but all in all an excellent live album. and on its way anyday now, from the offices of Barfko-Swill... 7. Frank Zappa - Civilization Phaze III (as previously mentioned) I have heard good sized chunks of this, but when it gets here I'm sure I will lose myself in it entirely. I've waited way too many years to finally own this one. * for those interested, these 2 are available for a very fair price from Somnambulant Corpse Recordings: http://somnambulantcorpse.com/home.shtml -------------------- "You have the option to drill additional holes in the label, causing the record to rotate off the side of the turntable" -Tom Ellard - Severed Heads

More more more...I think I need therapy or something. Anyhoo...stopped by the local Borders to pick up my Probot cd and rather than do the sensible thing and go straight to the register to pick up my reserved cd, I decided to browse around a bit. Front Line Assembly - Gashed Senses & Crossfire/Caustic Grip double cd (2 for the price of 1 ) Listened to Gashed Senses already and it rulez! Probot - love the liner notes (oh and the songs are great too) Mein Herz Brennt - Torsten Rasch A song cycle based on Rammstein lyrics and music...not Rammstein with orchestra, it's a freaking Deutsch Grammophone Orchestral Classics series release, found in the classical music section. None of these songs are remotely recognizable except for the lyrics which are performed by an opera singer (bass/baritone) and an actress who does really sinister spoken-word versions...kinda creepy but kinda cool. Not for everyone. Online I've only found this as a $35 import, Borders had it for $17 and I couldn't pass that up! Besides it completes the collection. And yes, I did just admit to having a Rammstein collection. Speaking of which, also picked up Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus DVD - mixture of concert clips, all their videos and a few making-of pieces. -------------------- ummm.....I got nothin' today :-(

VITAL REMAINS - Dechristianize - Great, great. It took me some while to get this marvel, but then, last but not least!CRYPTOPSY - Blasphemy Made Flesh - Another one that took me a long while to put my hands on, after lots of recommendations from several people here. One word review: . -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it."
