I'm listening to Where Silent Gods Stand Gaurd" right now. Is this considered doom? I like it.

I don't think I'd call it doom. Doom to me is Black Sabath or My Dying Bride. Viking Metal seems more appropriate. Most places like BNR call them Death Metal. I just call it rockin' good times!

Today I put my hands on a huge pile of metal CDs!

BATHORY - Under the sign of the black mark;
BLACK SABBATH - Ozzy meets the Priest;
CANDLEMASS - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus;
C.O.C. - Blind (had the vinyl, always wanted the CD);
FLOTSAM & JETSAM - No place for disgrace (same as above);
IMMORTAL - Pure holocaust, Blizzard beasts and At the heart of the winter;
JUDAS PRIEST - Live Screaming;
MAYHEM - Deathcrush and Dawn of the black hearts (the one with the pic of Dead's corpse on the cover);
NILE - Amongst the catacombs of Nephren-Ka (killer!!!);
NUCLEAR ASSAULT - Out of order (same as Corrosion and Flotsam);
OPETH - Orchid.

...and now I'm in metalhead's heaven!

Great deal! BTW which Alchemist?

A question -
Theory in Practice
what's that? I heard something about them, but not sure if it's good or what.[/QB][/QUOTE]

ALCHEMIST- "Organasm" excellent, I think a lot of fans of desert rock, stoner rock, whatever you want to call it, would like this stuff. Cause its not thrash or even what I might even term as metal. More hard rock....

Theory in Practice- good technical death metal. Kind of like if Slayer went prog. On Colonizing the Sun they do a 4 part medley which is pretty neat. I'd recommend it.

Yes. The first is the Sabbath gig at Costa Mesa, with Rob Halford on vocal duties, sound quality is okay. The Judas Priest CD is from the Screaming For Vengeance tour, and I found it to be a better quality-sounding show than the official Screaming For Vengeance video itself!

IN FLAMES - Reroute to remain - much better than everyone I asked told me, it's on high rotation on my work right now.

DESTRUCTION - Live without sense - oh I should be banned for waiting SO long to having this gem. Curse the gods!

VOÏVOD - Rrröööaaarrr - and I would love to know Blacky's own opinion about this one. I think the lack of production ruins the album. But then, that's me.

Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny

Finally found it on CD! Now ALL of the vinyl can retire.

This is one of the finest moments in music history as far as I'm concerned. If you don't own this, you're just not Metal, that's all.

A friend of mine gave me Fates Warnings' "Awaken the Guardian" for a Christmas gift. Been wanting it on CD for sooo long, I've worn out the cassette I've had ever since it came out, great surprise.
One of my favorite recordings of all-time.

Trust me IT CAN'T BE STOPPED. I've been doing it for years. Have you been buying the Collectors club cd over at the DGM website? Lots of great live shows and rehearsals!!! Fripp really knows how to give his fans music. Good luck collecting, if you need any ideas let me know.

I just scored an advanced promo of the new album 'The Power To Believe" ... I'm forking out $80.00 for it ... yes I'M WACKED!!!

I was reading hex's post about schroed spending $80 on a CD and I was thinking what happened that made my friend Schroed crazy. Then I scrolled back a page with a sigh of relief. Call me crazy, but that's money well spent.

Hey Schroed, dare I ask who made this offer to you? The only reason I ask is because of something I read regarding the future of King Crimson. In a nutshell, Fripp was indicating that the financial success of this album will determine if there will be future KC original recordings. My guess is that your $80 will not be going to the band. If it isn't, please buy the album when it officially comes out and also don't make the music available to download. Just one small request from one KC fan to another. It's a small difference, but a difference nonetheless.
Although I'll wait on pins and needles for your review.

Mr Mustard, It was an Ebay auction and well worth it to be able to hear the cd as soon as possible!!!

I'm a fanatic about collecting KC (and Porcupine Tree) and don't worry I'll end up with a couple 'official copies' as soon as they are released. I'll preorder a copy directly from DGM and then hunt down a Japanese version. I have official copies, promo copies, advanced copies of all their cds...the band isn't loosing any of my money just because I purchased the promo. I've been in the Collectors Club since day one and never opt out of a release (why would I? they're all great).

I'm hoping the new album sells very well so they continue.I can't think of a more important band that has been around as long as KC...I would hate to see them dissapear (again).

Hex, I've forked out a lot more than that on rarities that I NEEDED for my collection. It's my only vice.

It's coming from France, so it'll take a litle while!!!

BTW I also got a promo cd of VOIVOD's Lost Machine/Jack Luminous to add to my collection.
I already had the promos of:
The NIle Song/Tribal Conviction
and
Fix My Heart

This didn't cost me anywhere near what I paid for the KC promo (good thing).

O, how Xmas is good! Got some gifts:

ENTOMBED - Left hand path - cool! was the first comment I did when opening the package. They turned out to be one of the best of their generation (if not THE best), and this is a cool debut.

HATE ETERNAL - King of all kings - damn! Someone told me this was even more brutal than the first one. And it's fuckin' true! What a blast!

SEPULTURA - Revolusongs - easily the best recording with Derrick. The overall atmosphere reminds me a bit of Chaos AD era. Great songs, with Messiah (Hellhammer) and Piranha (Exodus) being the best, skilled musicianship and a little joke at the end of the album...

And bought:

EXTREME NOISE TERROR - Damage 381 - the one with Barney (ND) on vocals. Awesome. I don't have no other words to describe it.

Columbia House finally sent me DIO - Killing The Dragon which doesn't blow me away but it's certainly an improvment aver that piece of shit concept album 'Magica'.

I finally had a chance to wtch some of my new DVD of OVERKILL " Wrecking Everything" and if you own a player than you MUST have this dvd. Fucking DEVASTATING!!! These guys (well at least Blitz and DD) still have the same angst and energy they did when they started. Brutall as hell, loud, violent, packed full of energy, I might end up stage diving into my livingroom once I play it on my surround system.

I think OVERKILL still delivers metal so well because they never became millionares and their pissed off views are still the same...they're still angry and it shows when they play...I LOVE THIS DVD...if you haven't figured that out yet.

Now to get the cd of it.
