Khanate - Things Viral Khanate - live in Stockholm May 13, 2004 (CDR)Both purchased at the Earth/Asva/Khanate show last night at Graceland. Quick review: Earth played one song...it lasted at least 38 minutes. They had 3 guitars, bass, drums and a hammond organ (and a female vocalist who went from haunting wails to bloodcurdling shrieks for about 20 minutes). Talk about your wall of solid distortion. Sadly they had nothing at the merch booth, I would have loved to get some of their recordings. Asva has 1/3 the personnel of Earth - just guitar and drums. I think the drummer was smoking cigarettes in between drumbeats. They played 2 songs in their approximately 40 minute set. No vocals. Khanate sound just as insane live as they do on their albums. Stephen O'Malley is from the area and I was actually standing next to his dad during the show. The poor guy admitted to me that he hadn't been able to listen to the whole album straight through. He likes Sunn0))) better because there're no vokills. Anyhoo, these guys are amazing live. I believe they played 3 songs, mostly from the s/t with some "jamming" ("instrumental" passages rendering the songs even longer than the original...) Tim Wyskida (drummer) may not play fast but he plays HARD. He raises his hands over his head and just crashes down on the drums. Lovely to watch, really. -------------------- ummm.....I got nothin' today :-(

IRON MAIDEN - The Number Of The BeastDidn't have the enhanced CD version, so, "why not?", I thought. RAMMSTEIN - Mutter Blame it on Megan, who sent me a CD with mp3, now I'm addicted to Rammstein. Mutter is their finest, IMHO. ICED EARTH - The Glorious Burden I think Ripper Owens fit IE perfectly. MACHINE HEAD - Through The Ashes Of Empires My jaw is still on the floor. I didn't expect it to be THIS good. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." KANSAS - Sail On 30th Anniversary Box Set 2 cds 1 dvd: The dvd is incredible and has the early Don Kirshner Rock Concert footage on it, which I'm in the middle of now. Kansas was the first rock band I really got intoway back when, and I still like them to this day. America's answer to YES but they rocked much harder. Death Of Mother Nature Suite is brutal. They have had a long incredible carreer and still can put out good material and from what I've seen on their dvd DEVICE VOICE DRUM they still have what it takes to deliver the goods live. One of my long time fav bands who I have never seen live GOV'T MULE - Deja Voodoo: good disc but they just aren't the same since Woody died Finn Brothers - Everyone Is Here: haven't listened to this yet, but I've always enjoyed Neil's writting, playing, & singing. MEGADETH - The System Has Failed: i've been listening to my cdr of this for over a month now, so it's great to finally have the official release come out. GOD LIKE!!! Metallica needs to take some notes from the master BASS COMMUNION - Atmospheric: Steve Wilson's ultra mega rare recording os ambient, instrumentals that have been long out of print. about 50 were found and sold thru his headphone dust recording site, and was lucky enough to get one. back to KANSAS!!! -------------------- yawn

Also a very entertaining read. Today: Mastodon - Leviathan Borknagar - Epic (finally!) AR got tons of interesting stuff in London, very surprised he hasn't posted it. Share with the people Angel!
