From December of 2003Originally posted by nuclear delusion: Black Sabbath - Technical Ecstasy (completes my BS Ozzy era) quote: Originally posted by Maldorrröööaaarrr: What do you think of it? I rediscovered that album recently and, even tho there's a lot of ballads on that one ( ), I kinda like it. Good guitar sound, not that heavy, but not bad. And I LOVE "It's Alright", Bill Ward's song. It's sounds like a Beatles song or something.
Well after having almost 10 years to think about this, I like it, big shift in direction from 'Sabotage'. I agree with you on the Bill Ward penned "It's Alright", very Beatle-esque. Sorry it took so long to reply to ya! ------------------------------------- I've been going through the history of this thread to catch some stuff I bought back then (which is most likely boxed up now) to add to my Discogs input. Revisiting the past is a blast! PS - Where the fuck did Guidon go? LivingEvil? LyKcantropen? Oh well screw that pompous punk anyways HAHA --------------------

Some CD purchases today...- Clutch: Earth Rocker [Oh yeah, the new one sounds good!] - Ghost: Secular Haze [single] - Metallica: s/t black album - Metallica: St. Anger The black album and St. Anger we $3.99 each, so figured I'd finally buy them after all these years. Neither are representative of what I used to love about this band, but for historical purposes what the heck... The black album isn't so bad, I suppose. St. Anger is terrible, but it's almost so bad, that it's kind of enjoyable, in small doses. Not sure I will ever be able to bring myself to buy Load, ReLoad, or the S&M album, all of which seem... I dunno, kind of oppresive, drab, a bummer, too much "heeeeey...". Crap, I'll probably get them now that I've made this statement, haha. -------------------- I am a robot... bleep blop bloop

I'm of the same opinion regarding the black album. It's an obvious move for massive commercial success, and they got it. The album never did anything for me, so never bought until now. I wouldn't even give Load/ReLoad as much credit... can't find anything to like in those records at all. Lee - You are hilarious! I prefer Ride The Lightning, but am trying to guess what's not to like abut Master Of Puppets? This was pretty forward-looking thrash for '86... my only beef with classic Metallica is that they used the same album template for Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, and And Justice For All. Heck, Fade To Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), and One are practically the same arrangement, haha. Always amazed me that they got away with that. Not saying I don't like all this material, just that it always struck me as an odd move for such a high profile band. -------------------- I am a robot... bleep blop bloop

Just received my CLUTCH "Earth Rocker" collectors bundle package with cd, vinyl, hoodie, short sleeve T, long sleeve T, flask, sticker, and poster. TOTALLY BADASS!!!! Time to spin some vinyl.XD (and whom it may concern), I bought the Black album the bay it came out and I remember my first listen, waiting for something cool and heavy to bleed through my ears, or something written by Newsted because he delivered so much with Flotsam... none of that happened, and even as the last song was ready to begin, I was hoping "come one, be the Damage Inc of this record" but NO... I didn't hear that, not even close!!! Over time I started to enjoy the album but it never moved me like the previous albums. I bought Load & Reload hoping they would deliver what I loved originally about them, but there was nothing in either album that I got hooked on. Over time, and after reading and watching a bunch of Metallica books & documentary I've been able to listen to some of the stuff I hated with a more open mind and appreciate the fact that they did attempt to do something different instead of continuing to follow the formula they did on the first 4 albums (like Slayer always does... except for Diabolus). Still there's NO excuse for snares that sound like trash cans or sonar pings, and bad production where the sound clips in the red from beginning to end. But I do find it commendable for a band like Metallica to mix it up, even if I despise what they record, and I will NEVER own LULU even if they give it away with a $5 bill inside!!! I totally enjoy the S&M album and the dvd. I thought it was a cool idea and it brought new life to a lot of their songs and even the tunes from the shitty albums were more tolerable with Kamen's touches. It's also worth the purchase just for No Leaf Clover which was the best song they wrote in many many years, and Human ain't bad either. I though St Anger had a handful of good tunes but then it had a few (Invisible Kid) that made Load & Reload sound like masterpieces. I like that they were making a decent attempt at being thrash again, and live the songs sounded better, which always made me thinik that whoever they've been using to mix their live sound should be the one mixing the studio stuff. Drums sound like drums and there's a good separation of instruments. OK my METALLIrant is over. EARTH ROCKER is fuckin brilliant, almost finished side 1. Now CLUTCH is a band who can change, mix it up and still always sound fuckin' amazing, heavy, and intelligent. -------------------- yawn
