A lot of Thin Lizzy since I read the previous post.

One of the greatest.

I had to laugh at AngelRat and Schroed's comment regarding Rush......my sentiments exactly! Good songs that I don't care to hear again. Go figure!

Hey AR, can you expand on the new Tomahawk? I'm a huge fan of the first two, but have been ultra hesitant about buying this one based on reviews and little audio snippets I've heard. I'm a real big fan of Duane Denison's guitar playing and love Patton's vocals, but I really didn't want Tomahawk to become a vehicle for Patton's noise making and screams. Can you give me a little review? How does it compare to the other Tomahawk releases?
thanks, AR!

And I'm waiting for the brilliant new Amorphis album, Silent Waters, to come out so i can buy it, read it, and look at the pretty pictures.

Ye olde French Black Metal ist krieg! Have you read the Thirty Short Poems About My Favorite Black Metal Band? It's about a French Black Metal band, and it's pretty funny/cool/trve kvlt.

If you don't mind I'd like to chime in on the new Tomahawk. Way different than the previous two albums....less rock..more ethnic..middle eastern....? I read they were supposed to have based the song structures on native american chants...I liked it a lot...don't worry about the experimental Patton on this one. Its more the band has changed its direction, not him. Although I'm sure he had a lot to do with that change.

Yesterday I picked up:

MASTODON - Blood Mountain
DIMMU BORGIR - In Sorte Diaboli

I was blown away when I walked up to the cashier, at a Circuit City nonetheless, and he said, "yeah, these are some good albums." Now you have to understand I live in Georgia. Its hard enough to find this kind of music in a store, let alone someone who actually listens to it. Really strange....Then he goes on to mention several other quality DM bands...Amazing!

This is on my order today from the END:

ENTOMBED - Left Hand Path
DECEASED - The Blueprints For Madness
CRYPTOPSY - Blasphemy Made Flesh
DEVIN TOWNSEND - Presents: Ziltoid the Omniscient
CANVAS SOLARIS - Cortical Tectonics (digi)

I will also be pre-ordering the new ones from BARONESS & BLOTTED SCIENCE.

For the Blotted Science..I thought it would be fun to actually send the order in by mail. Remember when people used to do that?

I just did a little order at The End too.

Dodheimsgard - Supervillain Outcast

Shining - V Halmstad

Agalloch - The Mantle (they finally got it back in stock and I can replace the CDR Mez sent me all those ages ago. Thanks buddy, you got me hooked on an amazing band!)

Re: Tomahawk

I think Mez summed it up pretty well. It's not at all like the first two albums. The songs are inspired by native American material from the late 19th century and have a very strong atmospheric feel. Patton does a great job here. Highly recommended!

Some new stuffz:

Ash Ra Tempel s/t
Can Monster Movie
Faust So Far
Popol Vuh In Den Gärten Pharaos
Sickening Horror When Landscapes Bled Backwards
(Lovers of technical progressive death metal, beware! This will blow your mined! Check some stuff here:

Finally went out and bought some new stuff but I'm not thrilled with some of them and will be returning them for something else. Record and Tape Traders (the local store where I usually buy my music) has a cool club where you get discounts on everything you buy plus if you don't like it you can return it no quetions asked.
Anyway here's the list:

Tomahawk - Anonymous (I finds this cd completely boring and as much as I love Patton this one's going back for something else )

Pelican - City Of Echoes (read some good stuff about these guys in Decibel. all instrumental. pretty cool. i was 1/2 tempted to return this one but i think it'll grow on me with more spins)

Three - The End Is Begun (this band opened for Porcupine Tree on the last tour and even though their sound was totally overblown and horrible the music sounded cool and original. the singer take a bit getting used to and I'm not sure if his voice will annoy me the more I listen to it but I think I'll keep this one. interesting songs, grat musicianship. reminds me of a Mars Volta thing but with a better hook and groove to keep your attention)

Throwndown - Venom and Tears ( a buddy alerted me to this bands my space, and I was blown away by the sheer brutality. think Pantera's Vulgar Display Part 2... fuckin heavy and bad ass... a keeper)

Minus the Bear - Planet Of Ice ( interesting but pretentious lame and and after spinning this 3 times I've had enough... return!!! )

Heven And Hell - Live Radio City Music Hall DVD (just finished watching all of this... AMAZING... Dio sounds as good or better than he did when he was in Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath, and Dio... the man sings with so much feeling and the band is tight as hell. Dio was one of the first metal vocalists I worshipped and this is a great testament to his God-Like status. I'll be picking up the cd of this when I return the other cds)

well, I returned the Tomahawk and Minus the Bear cds and picked up the cd for the Heaven & Hell live at Radio City and also the Megadeth cd for That One Night Live in Buenos Aires (Agentina fans are incredible, between this, the live Rush dvd, and the Maiden Rock in Rio... South American fans get into their concerts more than anyone else on the planet it seems... amazing energy)

Foo Fighters - echoes silence patience & grace (this is more like it!!! they sound alot more like they did on the 1st 2 releases which makes me happy. i was worried that Grohl was forgetting how to be a bit angry and heavy but still have a pop catchy riff this cd recaptures what got me hooked when he first created the Foo Fighters)

Pearl Jam - Immagine In Cornice live in Italy dvd (getting ready to watch this now and looking forward to it. I'd imagine most people here aren't fans of PJ but I've enjoyed their work since they first emerged and have never really been dissapointd. just damn good song writting with a lot of diversity, and when they play live they really communicate with the audience and make each show special)

The Pearl Jam dvd was hands down one of the best concert dvds I've seen. The filming, editting, sound, etc, was outstanding. It was more like watching a film or movie instead of your typical concert dvd. LOVED IT. Great inserts of the band members hanging out in Italy, backstage, sightseeing, meeting locals, meeting fans that were mixed in throughout the dvd. Great songlist.... EXCELLENT.

How's the new Oceansize AngelRat? Is it more like the first full length release (which I love) or the second (which I like but it just doesn't have the hook the first one did for me)

I received:
ROB CAVESTANY (Death Angel) - Lines On The Road (nice acustic laid back tracks. it's cool to hear this side of Rob which you could get glimpses of on certain DA tunes but this is a full set of mellow stuff with a groove)

The new Oceansize is pretty good! I still haven't heard the first one (it's on my list) and I think the second one was ok-ish. I prefer this new disc by far over the previous one and yet I have to listen to it some more to really get into it.

YOu'll really enjoy the first Oceansize, very cool stuff, lots of original sounds, and you'll get drawn into it and want to play it alot. The second one is very different and it just doesn't seem to have the groove the first one did.
