"Deggial" is definitely a good album.
In the vein of "Theli". I prefer it to their latter one "Secret of the Runes". "Deggial" has great song (Deggial, Via Nocturna...) with dark moments. Check it out when you have the opportunity, it's worth it!

I have some of thier early stuff, which is ok. What I've heard of the newer stuff sounds alot better, and alot more progressive too. I may well have to add them to the list of 'albums to buy'.
I played an 11 minute Opeth track called 'the moor' on my radio show last time I was on. It sounded cool. Is the rest of the album like that?

STEVE WILSON of Porcupine Tree produced OPETH's latest "Blackwater Park" and had a lot to do with the progressive influence...just like Opeth has influenced Porcupine Tree's heavier sounds.

Both bands admire each other even though they are very different musically.

Kind of. There's more acoustic passages in some of the other songs on Still Life.
They are so awesome! I can't say enough about Opeth. I recommend the latest "Blackwater Park" which is being re-released (next month I think) before their new 2 CD album (one CD will be acoustic, the other will be crazy death metal).
I'm going to have to look for some Porcupine Tree stuff. I've been interested in them ever since I heard of the Opeth connection, but I just haven't heard any of their music.

I just came back from a used CD shop near my house where I got these:

Pink Floyd - A Momentary Lapse Of Reason
Pink Floyd - The Division Bell
Testament - Practice What You Preach
Nile - In The Beginning

The Division Bell is the better of the 2 Floyd by far. High Hopes is one of my fave songs EVER.

I'm really looking forward to cranking up the Nile and Testament CDs but my daughter is asleep! The Pink Floyd knocked her right out!

The last CD I bought was by an english band called Mistress. Very heavy stuff. Like Sludge with blastbeats.

Jethro, what do ya think of the new Masters Of Reality?

I like it a lot beter than the "Welcome to the Western Lodge" but it still doesn't compare to the first 2 releases and the live album. What do you think?

I felt after the "blue garden" that they became kind of dull (to me, not my taste - whatever) - I liked the mix of writing AND riffs on the first lp and that wasn't there on the later stuff (the only one I heard was "sunshine...") so I never bothered picking those up.So I picked up "deep.." in a sale with a kind of nothing to loose mindset. It's a really good cd!Real big sound (for the kind of stuff they do) and Goss' voice just seems to get better and better - he's a great vocalist.Plus having Mark Lanegan on there was a real bonus.

But heah! - what do YOU think fella?

I thought BLUE GARDEN and SUNSHINE ON THE SURFFER BUS were incredible. They have yet to capture the same 'groove' that they had on those 2 albums. Ginger Baker is the drummer on SOTSB and the band just 'clicks'. It's probably my favorite of the MOR releases.

Yeah... Blue Garden is great! I've become a little bored with what they've done recently though... Haven't heard the new one yet so can't comment.

Just got an advance copy of the new Isis album "Oceanic" through today. That fucking rocks. There are some absolutely stunning riffs on it. Full on experimetal!

I listened to OMG/seminar11 (?) in a shop and was really disappointed - 50% of the running time seems to be made up of noise/"atsmospherics"/whatever and I found it a bit of a dull listen - I don't know maybe if you're totally out of your bin it's ok, but then so's the sound of the tap dripping (it's got a great beat!).

Got some nice ones yesterday. Check them out:

Morbid Angel - The Laibach Remixes - well... This one is not what I could call a nice acquisition. Got this for collection purposes. Just remixes from God Of Emptiness and Sworn To The Black, from Covenant, plus the original tunes. CD´s out of print, I suppose.

Candlemass - Nightfall - Oh boy, oh boy! Now this IS good! The remasters series, with the bonus disc! Nightfall itself is a fabulous release (I find it to be better than "Epicus..."), add this to several bonus tracks on the 2nd CD (including a "Bewitched" video-clip and a previously unreleased song)... I recomend this to every single person on this forum!

Vader - Revelations - The cool new album from Vader! They still kick major ass, Peter is still one of my fave growlers (he doesn't sound like a hungry gorilla) and the overall songs are even better than Litany!

Danka.

What the fuck are you lot on about? It's fucking great!!

The drummers hair and outfit are unacceptable, but other than that..

Now, if I can just track down a copy of Cold Lake.
