New Cynic is top-notch. Kind of a middle ground between older Cynic and Aeon Spoke.

Still trying to get into the new Cynic. There's lots of greatness, but still it doesn't totally click with me. I don't like Masvidal's whiny vocals either.

Still working on it. I've given it one good solid listen so far and first impression was good. As AR has eluded, there's not really any big hooks, but there's still a lot of cool stuff going on. Still working on it, but not disappointed, at least not yet.

I need to give the new Cynic a proper try. Like Mez, I've found what I've heard so far a little dull. Especially vocally... My love of focus means it deserves more of my attention before I decide.

Don't know if any of you guys were a fan of Holden Caulfield like me when I was a teenager but if you were.....you should definitely watch this movie about the man who wrote his story:

Got a couple of 7-inch releases in the mail yesterday from CM Germany...

- Triptykon: Breathing [black vinyl]
- Voivod: Kluskap O'Kom [black vinyl]

You know, I originally bought the grey vinyl version of Kluskap O'Kom and it had a flaw with the A-side and wouldn't play through... Back to black for me.

The Triptykon is beyond HEAVY! Can't wait for the album.

Also found a used copy of the new Alcest "Shelter" on CD... Not really metal, but I like it.

There's some crazy stuff going on all over the WE INSIST! cd, and I'll need a closer listen than what I enjoyed at work to fully take it in. It reminded me of King Crimson gone insane... but taking a few meds to just stay in control.

Todays mail:
VARGA - Enter The Metal
The online magazine I do reviews for, wanted me to do this album. They sent me 2 songs and I thought they were killer. The drummer sent me the cd and I'm stoked to be crank it up and give it loud listen. The 2 songs I heard reminded me of early Blue Oyster Cult meets classic thrash. Quirky lyrics, killer riffs, cool time changes, good vocals... and they're fuckin' Canadian... so you know it'll be awesome!!!

Hit a record show today and nabbed these...

Vinyl...
- Accüsed: The Archive Tapes 1981-1986
- Accüsed: The Baked Tapes [grey/red splatter]
- Blue Cheer: Outsideinside
- Blue Cheer: Blue Cheer
- Blue Öyster Cult: Secret Treaties

CD...
- Black Flag: Everything Went Black
- Camel: Mirage [remaster]
- Camel: Moonmadness [remaster]

Have a preorder in for the new Triptykon, both CD and vinyl, so anxious for those to come through in the next few weeks. The "Breathing" 7-inch just got me hungry for the full release.

RUSH - Counterparts (Brazil pressing vinyl) the wood glue treatment helped this a lot because upon visual inspection it was not the VG+ (maybe G+) grading the seller claimed, but after cleaning it and listening through headphones it's pretty good. Some surface noise, but it did track through the worst sections without skipping... so I'm happy. Grading is obviously up for interpretation but some sellers ideas of how good something really is compared to what I think it is, makes collecting used vinyl online very tricky.

RUSH - Power Windows picture disc vinyl
KING CRIMSON - Larks Tongue in Aspic 40th anniversary cd/dvd with 5.1 mix and more goodies

The seller of the RUSH Counterparts vinyl is being a standup guy and taking the record back and issuing a refund after I emailed him about the condition of the vinyl, bad sound and skipping. Bummed about having to send it back but I won't listen to something in this condition no matter how rare it is and it's not worth owning if I can't play it.

- Corrosion Of Conformity: s/t album [full LP with bonus 7-inch]
- Kadavar: Abra Kadavar [brown vinyl]

CD...
- Van Halen: 1984 [remaster]

May be traveling later this month, so saving my crumpled dollars for hitting shops on the road.

Tomahawk - Anonymous (i bought this when it first came out but just couldn't get into it and returned it. I have it vinyl now and it's been bugging me that it's the only cd in their catalogue I didn't have... so I bought it again. Beautiful artwork and packaging, and I enjoy the music more now than I did before. It still seems more like a Patton solo experimental album than a Tomahawk album.

Deuces Are Wild: Tribute to Aerosmith double cd - like most low budget tribute that contain mostly unknown bands and artists, there's a couple gems and a lot of crap. I purchased it because a friend's band Mystic Force covers "Same Old Song and Dance".

RUSH - Blackwork Angels Tour :Limited edition release 4814/5000. 12x12 book packaging with photos 1:blu ray disc, 2:dvd discs, 3:cds of the live show. Beautifully done.
