Is the new Napalm Death out? I haven't been out from "under a rock" for awhile yet. I had heard it was coming out soon anyway.

Just got the new Meshuggah cd 'Nothing' and I'm sorry to say I'm dissapointed. After all the killer reviews it's been getting I thought it'd be right up my street. There are a couple of cool riffs on there but that fucking monotonous bark of a singer just gets on my tits. Ruins the whole thing.

I finally put my hands on the new Limbonic Art CD, The Ultimate Death Worship. Classic Norwegian Black Metal, that's for sure. And Attila Csihar (ex-Mayhem) does a "cameo" appereance. Worth the while for any black metal fan.

Sounds cool, I'm gonna have to pick that one up. Yesterday I got me a nice haul:

Monster Magnet - Dopes To Infinity
I love this band. Saw them with Fu Manchu years ago. Got really drunk with Dave Wyndorf and tried to convince him to skip the Saskatoon stop on the tour and stay to see my band the next night.

Tomahawk - Tomahawk
I like this one. Reminds me of Jesus Lizard (duh, probably coz Duane Denison plays geetar). I love anything Mike Patton does. A buddy of mine is gonna burn Adult Themes For Voice for me

Oxes - Oxxxes
Wow! This CD is great. Instrumental stuff. Kinda sounds like Shellac, but WAY more technical. Crazy time signatures galore, fucked up tunings and crazy riffing. Pure genius. All Voivod fans should dig this. Go buy this one NOW.

Man, I missed the recent Dream Theater gigis in London, and I'm gutted 'cause one night they played the whole of Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" album in correct running order. I would have loved to have seen that.

hex, GREAT load of music!!! You have excellent taste and an open mind it seems. I've been a UK listeners since the early 80's, when I first really started listening to a wide variety of music. Wetton has an amazing voice, and UK was a good band to form after Crimson broke up. Wetton, Bruford, Holdsworth, & Jobson!!! Fuckin' incredible musicians!!!

Trying desperatley to d/l the Dream Theater boot...that cool what they are doing. I have a few cool shows by them and all their official cds, videos, dvds. I laugh when LaBrie wears his Septic Death shirt...he should get some agression into his singing!!!

Yo Hex, how is that VS CD you got from Chophouse? I bet it's killer

Yeah, Hex, I thought the same thing when I heard a clip of IR8. Too nu-metalish for me. Maybe with a rougher edge but not that rough.
And I hear the same kind of thing in the other bands at chophouse. Major blandness.

I got handed a cassette tape (remember those things?) of 3 new demo songs by Orange Goblin last night. Produced by Billy Anderson. They've gone NWOBHM! It rocks!

I went to see Murderdolls supporting Papa Roach last night in London (and I know I didnt mention Hell is for Heroes, I might consider it when they reach puberty)

Go out and buy the Murderdolls cd right now.
Forget that "dead in hollywood" cheese - there is a whole platter of gorgonzola just awaiting a cracker - it's so bad it's excellent, they pissed PR right off the planet (ugly ugly fuckers though)

oh yeah, I bought my own water

The Goblin goign NWOBHM?! That's fucking brilliant!

Did Billy Anderson do 'The Big Black'? I love the production on that album, even if the band don't (?).

Mind you, the thought of Ben Ward in spandex is not really a tasteful one.

ELVIS - 30 # 1 Hits

...and I love it!!! Suspicious Minds always makes my day better.

BTW, which Elvis era do you guys prefer? I'd rather go for the pre-Army days, but with a look on the 70's casino years...

Biff Ward!! Genius!
Yeah, Billy Anderson did Big Black. That production really suits them. There's only 3 songs on the tape, and 2 of them are as you'd expect, but the middle one goes into Maiden / Lizzy. It's fucking excellent!

As for Elvis, I always liked his kung fu dance routines. So unbelievable that he could kick anyone's arse! Quality entertainment.

You mean to tell me that you don't have this shite oozing out of your radio stations. You're lucky. This is the worst possible music. They're basically metal bands who've found a formula to get on the radio. Very bland, totally medicore music with the same old regurgitated riffs we've heard before from Metallica. Only they give it a little more of an accessible feel. I think the best example of this right now is Godsmack. They suck so incredibly its downright insulting to hear five seconds of it if your an old school metal fan.
So count yourself lucky. They say ignorance is bliss.

Stopped at a great cd store in Fells Point Maryland, called the SOUNDGARDEN, last night when I drove up to see PORCUPINE TREE, who were beyond GOD-LIKE, play at Fletchers and picked up:
FATES WARNING - THE SPECTRE WITHIN & NIGHT ON BROKEN remasters
PORCUPINE TREE - IN ABSENTIS a jewel case version to add to my collection
DAVID GILMORE - IN CONCERT dvd which I've heard great things about.

in the mail I received from DGM:
KING CRIMSON - LADIES OF THE ROAD (1971 era of the band, live)
KABUSACK III - LUZ DE ORO CHIPORRITA (guitarist who used to be in Los Gauchos Alemanes)
KING CRIMSON - SHOGANAI (japanese version of their latest ep)

Pigface! I really love Gub. It was a continuation of Ministry tour (in case you didn't feel like showing up!) when William and Martin played that incredible 2-drummer set, and wanted to do something more about it... Guest list is terrific! Esch, Ogre, Connelly, Reznor... HOW DOES IT FEEL??! Fook was not so exciting, so I lost interest in what they did later, anyone tell me I'm wrong?

I started losing interest in Pigface after Feels Like Heaven-Sounds Like Shit, the remix version of Notes From Thee Underground. They started heading in an ambient-dance-trance direction after that, I liked the harder industrial/rock sound better. Jim Marcus (Die Warzau) did do a badass remix of "Asphole", a song Ogre sings on Notes. Don't forget Paul Raven AND Andrew Weiss were on Fook, totally distorting the whole bass sound.
Chris Connelly ended up making a whole album with Raven, Atkins, Paul Ferguson and Geordie from Killing Joke under the name Murder, Inc.. If you haven't heard this it's pretty damn good! Killing Joke is one of Connelly's favorite bands, so he kind-of did what Jasonic is doing with Voivod.
