Hex, I wasn't blown away by the new DT either, but did find it better than Octavarium. I was hoping it would have the balls that Train Of Thought did which I felt was their best in a long long time. I am looking forward to the dvd and hearing how some of these songs are mixed for 5.1, and the documentary might be interesting (maybe). I thought Repentance was a very different song for the band in the feel of it, and I enjoyed how they revisited one of the songs from Train Of Thought. It had a vibe that I haven't heard them deliver since Kevin Moore was in the band, and Petrucci didn't spew off his usual million notes per second and actually made for a nice moving piece.Cornell's solo cd is pretty interesting to say the least. I think in the studio Chris has a great voice and he can pen some moving songs. I really dug the groove of his first solo cd Euphoria Morning, not to mention the few solo songs that appeared on some soundtracks, so I was looking forward to hearing this new and glad to see him get out of the Audioslave camp. The new cd is very soulful. the first track is similar to what he did in Audioslave, pretty rockin with a good groove, but the rest of the album is pretty laid back, nothing maindblowing or earth shattering, just good songs. He covers Billie Jean, yes the Michael Jackson song, and makes it his own. A lot of songs have a bluesy feel and once in a while he tries something new with his voice. Cornell just seems to do what he wants to do with this album with no expectations. With a fewq more spins I'll either really start to like it, or it'll bore me to tears. -------------------- yawn

It's time for this month's extreme metal week!LOCK UP - Play Fast Or Die - Live In Japan; DARKTHRONE - Preparing For War (Deluxe Ed.); MAYHEM - Ordo Ad Chao; ENSLAVED - Isa. Plus, I got a DVD: DEAD KENNEDYS - DMPO's On Broadway. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." I got the new RUSH and listened to it a few times but it just doesn't leave me with the desire to play it again. Not much really hooked me or drew me in. There's some good stuff on there and a bunch of great instrumental pieces (which I probably like the best on the album). Worth picking up but definitley not their best effort. It might be better as a headphone listen instead of playing it while at work which is the only time I've spun it. Maybe I need to sit down crank it up and follow the lyrics and really experience the disc... anyway, time to watch some of the KISSology dvd!!!!! -------------------- yawn

I too am curious about the new Rush, didn't have the "guts" to buy it yet. Been buying a couple of goodies lately... DARKTHRONE - Total Death (to replace my crappy Russian "2 on 1" copy of it); ENTOMBED - Morning Star, Inferno (both at Fnac for a real bargain, 1/3 their normal price); VENOM - Possessed (remaster). And a really cool DVD: MANOWAR - The Absolute Power (The Day the Earth Shook). If not for anything else (the second DVD is more miss than hit with all that Fan Convention crap), the concert at Earthshaker Fest with all the band members, past and present, appeared to be a blast, plus the grand finale with "Battle Hymn", all eight members together at stage (with three drums and three guitars), plus an orchestra and a choir, was truly emotional. Wish I could have been there. -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it."
