Hey Neut,

How's the Jello Biafra & the Melvins - Never Breathe What You can't See CD. I'm curious. Is it worth the buy?

And hey Mez,

Is there a new Happy Family release or something? I wasn't aware. Fill me in! Thanks!

has anyone heard the new Mike Patton? I saw it in the store but refrained (believe it or not) from buying it in fear that it would be too experimental and insane with no hooks anything to keep me from jumping out the window.

let's hear a reveiw and description from someone... please

Today at work the following was waiting for me:

Cave In / Children - split 7" wit Bottom Feeder & Inner War (one of the most disturbing covers I've ever seen) white vinyl very rare

Live - Birds Of Pray (cd/dvd)

Kreator - Live Kreation

Kreator - Endorama (unfortunatley the cd inside was Outcast, which I have)

Kreator - Live Kreation Revisioned Glory dvd

Enslaved - Isa

Very cool. Far more progged-out than previous efforts, not as furious as Monumension, but it's a wonderful album in it's own right. Deep, beautiful. More Voivod riffs than usual.

Slayer - Still Reigning DVD
Carcass - Wake Up and Smell the Carcass DVD

Got far too much money for my birthday. Most of it is going into a bank, but otherwise, let's see if I can't add to that list of CDs this morning. Cue "kid in a candy store" moment.

That DVD rips. So much better than War at the Warfield. Carcass is funny, so much goes wrong. The "Grindcrusher" footage is excellent, though.

Earache dropped the ball bigtime with the Carcass dvd. Maybe it looks better in PAL, but the NTSC version is atrocious. The VHS looks crisper and better! The dvd looks like a vcd. Not good.

Anyway, I bought the Blind Guardian DVD, Imaginations From The Looking Glass. I'm not the biggest BG fan or anything but there wasnt anything else at the store that caught my interest (well, ok, maybe the new Maiden one, but.. i dunno). I like the packaging, it's the same box affair as the Rush In Rio dvd, so that's cool. I havent watched it much yet but it looks decent so far.

Black Sabbath Tribute - Masters Of Misery

Skull, how could you pass on the Maiden dvd??? I'm watching disc 1 finally and it's fuckin incredible. Disc 2 was full of great footage, documentaries, live shows, and extras. When Dickinson originally took over the vocals he was hands down my favorite singer for many many years, but after watching this dvd I'll put Dianno right up there with Bruce... Paul's not the screamer Bruce is, just a fuckin great singer... I wish my first 2 Maiden cds weren't in storage aaarrrggghhh.
BUY THE DVD Skull!!!

Honestly David, i had 'em both (Maiden and BG) in my hands and it was a bit of a struggle. The reason i went with BG is simply because i had never seen the stuff before. The Maiden stuff, some of it i already have on vhs, so... Also, the price was the same. Both were 30.99$. But i could only afford one of 'em.

I'm gonna get Maiden after the holidays or something.

Had to get these for the unreleased John McLaughlin work.
Hey SHROEDER, What's your opinion on John McLaughlin or his work with Mahavishnu or Shakti or even Santana or Jonas Helborg?

McLaughlin is no doubt a legend and a master of the instrument. I have Birds of Prey, and a couple solo cds. He's certainly done a lot of differnt styles. I'm not a huge fan but know how respected the man is amongst his peers. He's collaborated with many of the finest player... Paco DeLuca, Dimeola to name a few.

NW: Peter Gabriel - PLAY The Video dvd
PG is a genius. I have to be in the right mood to listen to his cds, butwhen you start watching his videos, they really suck you in. Everything is thought out and is visually stunning. His live concert dvds are equally as stimulating as the videos he's created for his songs. He's on my list of people I should see live.

Hey pendar, I'm was a huge JM fan growing up. Probably one of my biggest influences.....anyway, I noticed you didn't refer to any of his work he did in the 90s with Joey DeFrancesco (hammond) and Dennis Chambers (drummer). That was great stuff. More hard-bop with a bit of loose funk. I saw that trio live some time ago and needless to say, they all blew my mind. It's worth checking out. They have a live CD called the Free Spirits that every JM fan should own. Great playing.

Went up to Oxford for my university interviews this week, and found to my pleasure that it has the best record shops I've ever seen. So I finally got my grubby mitts on the War and Pain re-release! Very nice indeed.

Hell yeah

Obsessed By Cruelty was one of my favorite speed-metal albums of all time. It definately had it's own style

For Sign, let me tell you, Outbreak of Evil still stands as one of the heaviest tracks of the early 80s
