Oh and here are my two latest buys:

Faith No More - The Real Thing

REM - Green

Two old favorite albums of mine...couldn't resist as they were marked down to 8 bucks a pop.

I Just scored "Revelations" from Fields of the Nephilim on ebay .... the double CD edition costed me $4,99 ... I ended up paying more on shipping than on the CD itself, but still it's a damn good price for a damn awesome album.
I'm such a happy man today

I don't remember, haha. Basically, I've been producing a series of videos for Microsoft in which I went to a few different seminars that they put on for small business owners recording interviews and the events themselves. Greensboro was one of the cities they chose... Don't know why really, but it was nice being there for about 4 days. Super friendly town with a good micro-brew just up the street from my hotel.

Yesterday it was St. Valentine's Day here in Brazil, and I got two marvels from my lady, Purple's "Machine Head" and "Burn", both the 25-year-anniversary remasters.

Hooray!

Nice! Along with Fireball, those are my favs. Have you checked out the Roger Glover remix of Machine Head yet? Interesting , but man, even with all the updates to the equipment (and Glover's talent), none of the DP remixes I've heard even come close to matching Martin Birch's original production, haha. The remastering work on these releases was very nicely done too.

Yeah, what an awesome band. Funny thing is they are usually labeled as gothic rock, while they are vastly ignored by the goths themselves ...haha. BTW, I think Carl Mc Coy has to be the best death metal vocalist that doesn't sing on a death metal band ... definitely he's among my 3 top singers of all time.

Totally agree with you on the remix thing. It's okay but, just doesn't compare to the original.

I was on a CD buying drought for a bit, but over the last couple of weeks I picked these up:

Immolation - Majesty & Decay (really like these guys and this is some of their best work yet)
Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis (never really liked these guys, I think they try too hard to be technical, but this album was recommended highly and it's okay)
Lake of Tears - Moons & Mushrooms (another recommendation from a friend, I just got it today and will spin it while I cut the grass)
Devildriver - Pray For Villains (This was a gift and it's okay, but not nearly as good as The Last Kind Words)
Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil (hell, it was $4 and it's still their best album. Very Euro-Metal sounding. Wish they'd stayed that way)

Why would anyone even think about remixing something Martin Birch originally did? Don't fuck with something that's already perfect and has been through the ears and hands of a God!!!

I have the remastered & extended Deep Purple discs and they sound a lot cleaner than the original versions which is nice, and I'll second the thumbs up on the Fireball (probably my #1 DP fav), Machine Head, Who Do You Think We Are, & In Rock; however, I also still get blown away by Purpendicular & Abandon with Steve Morse on guitar... he saved the band as far as I'm concerned after the very mediocre The Battle Rages On album.

Their latter releases with Morse haven't matched the first 2 with him, but their live shows are still pretty hot from what I've seen on dvd.

I already have the "In Rock" and "Fireball" remasters, which I love. And I could not agree more with you on the Martin Birch subject. On a preliminary listen, I think Keyboards on the "MH Glover mix" are way too buried (i.e., LOUD guitars), in comparison to the original work, in which the guitars and keyboards coexist in harmony. Ritchie might have loved it, but I wonder what Jon Lord thought when he first heard the remixed songs.

As much as I love "Fireball", "Machine Head" and "Burn" (and "Come Taste The Band" as well), "In Rock" will always be my favourite Purple album for sentimental reasons: it's the first Purple album I heard. You can't compete with the first album, can you?

well i got some rather interesting things at work from my boss today...

voivod "astronomy domine" single

the white slip case self titled promo sampler

and lastely the ORIGINAL CD sent to my boss from the band with their cover version of the die kreuzen song "man in the trees". he's the one that put together the "die kreuzen: lean into it" compilation that featured voivod on there. (i also own the original napalm death cd they sent to him with their version of "im tired".) im not sure who's handwriting from voivod is on the cd and insert but it has 3 tracks and they even spelled it "die kreutzen". haha - this is definately a cool little thing to have! also, i was told that piggy played guitar and bass on it, so its just snake, away, and piggy.

ps. if anyone would like a copy of the compilation i know we still have a few left at our shop. i think its $9.99

kampfar - Mellon Skogkledde Aaser
Fintroll - Midnattens Widunder (wich I find very amusing)
Ragnarok - Blackdoor Miracle
Ragnarok - Arising Realm
Grand Belial's Key - Castrate the Redeemer

Macabre -Murder Metal

I love these guys ... sick shit and the blackest possible humour. Having Neil Kernon producing it doesn't hurt either (love his productions). I'm really looking forward to see them for the first time at Brutalassault soon.

BTW: not an actual CD, but I bought the 2 available new songs from Rush, and I can say I'm thrilled about the upcoming album ... much heavier than "Snakes and Arrows" (which I'm not crazy about)... I found it to be something between Counterparts and Vapor Trails, but with S&A's slick production ... and that, in my book, sounds like a total winner.

I was at Walmart today and picked up probably the strangest assortment of music I have ever purchased in my life:
Ozzy Osbourne - Scream (way better than Chris Cornell's album by the same name... which I will NEVER purchase or accept as a free gift)

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gold 2cd
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Live From Freedom Hall dvd

Foreigner - Foreigner (remastered & extended)

Prince - Around The World In A Day

Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life

Trace Atkins - Greatest Hits Volume 2 (my girlfriend really enjoys country music so I have opened my mind to it)

Some very eclectic purchases aroudn VVF in July, cool.

I've held back a bit lately since the May/early June buying orgy... However, my son and I hit a shop this afternoon and came away with the following CDs.

- Clutch: Live In Flint, Michigan ~kind of amazing that I found a used copy of this in a store... but there is was... instantly grabbed it up, of course.
- The Soft Machine: Third
- Wire: Send
- Yes: Beyond & Before The BBC Recordings 1969-1970

I've also mail-ordered a Mini-LP release of Area's first album, Arbeit Macht Frei, which I am anxiously waiting to hold in my hands. A masterpiece I've been listening to for years but needs to be owned.
