I've been reading Malmsteen's autobiography and it's much better than I expected and way better than most of these rock star bios I've read. Anyway, it peaked my interest in his work, and even though I enjoyed his stuff when he first came out I lost interest over the years, but decided to relisten to some things I already had, and order some thing that I didn't... which brought me to Alcatrazz. I used to have the No Parole on vinyl but no longer have it, but I did have Disturbing the Peace which is the release with Steve Vai (after Malmsteen left),so I gave it a spin and was blown away. What a great forgotten album. Of course I went on Amazon and found a used copy of the reissued expanded version of DISTURBING THE PEACE which has a second cd recorded live October 10 1984 in Tokyo Japan.

Just arrived FED EX:
Flotsam & Jetsam - Ugly Noise (German clear vinyl only 150 made)

Atomic Rooster's first album, deluxe CD version, in today's mail. Somehow hadn't been able to find this locally, so nabbed it from eBay for a nice price.

- Blue Öyster Cult: Spectres
- Blue Öyster Cult: Mirrors
- Blue Öyster Cult: Fire Of Unknown Origin
- Steve Hillage: Aura
- Steve Hillage: Motivation Radio

And in the mail... a CD

- Reverend Bizarre: Death Is Glory... Now

Not a bad day.

After waiting over a month for the post office to make their best attempts to never get this to my house I finally received:
RUSH - Hold Your Fire (vinyl)

also received:
Alcatrazz - No Parole From Rock N Roll (extended version with lots of demos) (comparing this to the Disturbing the Peace album... Steve Vai's contribution to the band far exceeds Malmsteen's... who did much better on his own)

For better or worse...

BLACK SABBATH: 13
~ Best Buy deluxe edition with that 4th bonus track

Giving it some time before making a final call, but initial thoughts are that Iommi & Butler can still deliver... Ozzy, no so much.

I "auto ripped" it today, while Amazon mails my deluxe version, and will crank it on the way to work tomorrow to give it a proper listen. I still think Ozzy's voice is damn good... at least it was on the last few Ozzy releases. I like the few songs I've already heard, nothing mindblowing, but still decent tunes. We all know this would never be happening if Dio were still alive because Heaven & Hell was kicking ass and writing some cool shit. However, since Ronnie's passing, I am glad Ozzy, Geezer, and Tony are back together creating something new... even if they are too fucking ignorant and stupid to bring Bill Ward back which definitely would have changed the sound of the album for the better. I think this album is going to take a few listens before it really sinks in and I enjoy... I'm willing to put some time into it.

What do ya think of it? I've spun it a time or two and there wasn't anything that really jumped out at me as being a killer tune. I didn't hate it, but it also didn't leave me wanting to play it again right away. It may be one of those albums that takes a few listens to sink in. I love the stuff Josh did with Grohl on the Sound City thing.

Hell yeah Dave! Fly By Night is a good one to have on vinyl!

Bought these CDs today...

- Cathedral: The Last Spire
- Cirith Ungol: Servants Of Chaos [2CD/DVD box of early CU recordings & a live show from '84 on DVD]
- Manilla Road: Metal

The final Cathedral album, closing the loop on early Cirith Ungol stuff, and another fine Manilla Road resissue from Shadow Kingdom Records! And it's sunnny out!

Megadeth - Super Collider
Black Sabbath - 13 deluxe cd

I've been on a Death Angel & Overkill vinyl buying spree the last few days. This addiction is costing me a lot of $$$ but at least I'll always have something to show and listen to because of my obsession.

Is the guy from Disturbed on the new MegaDave album?

Hard to believe but they're actually more pathetic now than Metallica. Would've never imagined that.

Lol, I wouldn't be surprised.

I finally got around to obtaining:

Alice in Chains - The Devil put Dinosaurs Here

and

Black Sabbath - 13 (deluxe edition)

Alice delivered as expected, actually quite Sabbath-y when you think about it! The new Black Sabbath is pretty good too, in my heart of hearts I know it would sound better with Ward in there, but oh well. On the idea of this being a heaven & Hell album instead, without a doubt Dio would have automatically raised the bar. Not that Ozzy sucks or did anything wrong, just that he's become too predictable and "safe" with his vocals. I think I only counted one or two instances where he barely raised his octave. I'll take it though, Iommi is GOD! (so god isn't really dead I guess haha)

Yes/true @ the Disturbed guy being on the album and agreed on Megadeth being more pathetic than Metallica.

Hey Lee, turning the subject to good music, have you heard about Dan Swanö's latest project Witherscape? Stumbled across this story on Blabbershit the other day and checked out the preview track from the album and it sounds pretty cool! Voivod is referenced as an influence in the article.
DAN SWANÖ Discusses WITHERSCAPE Debut Album
Or skip the article and go straight to the track: Witherscape: Astrid Falls

Very cool. I'd read somewhere he was writing again for a new project. One of my favorite people in metal. Only misstep by him IMO was Nightingale...that was bad. Aside from that...the guy is incredible. I'm really liking what I'm hearing here........

Was anybody else here blown away by the the song 'Phantom Limb' off the new AIC. I had to pull the car off the road and stop just to absorb it. What a riff!! That album delivers totally....last two songs were filler but everything before that....WOw!!

It's pretty good, got a nice build up, I'm assuming you are referring to the riff during the second half? I'm pissed off because they are not coming to Seattle on their current tour, they are playing 3 hours away.

Not coming to Seattle??....that doesn't make sense!

Ludicra-Another Great Love Song......[really really sorry this band no longer exists. Everything they ever put out was top notch. I may love this one more than the Tenant...and that one was incredible!]

Art Blakey and Jazz Messengers-The Big Beat
.......sublime, man, Lee Morgan was a magician
