Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings (3cd set)

DVD Movie - Johnny Got His Gun
I've waited many many years for this to come out. It even has the Metallica video for ONE and lots of other extras. I watched this movie many years ago after learning about it from the Metallica video and read the book also... both are great and worth having.

Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings

Fuck me this band get better and better. Much thicker sound than Systematic and heavier than Train... It even has blastbeats!

Loving the cover CD too. Not sure about the 3rd CD (no vocals mix), seems a bit redundant. Guess they spoiled their fans last time with that making-of DVD.

I need to listen to the new DT some more. I loved the heaviness of the first song but a few of the tracks got weak and boring. I do like the cover song disc, although LaBrie's voice kinda sucks on a few of the song but the musicianship is tight. I haven't spun the instrumental disc yet.

I still prefer what Kevin Moore has released since leaving the band over anything DT has put out post Moore. Kevin's solo albums, Chroma Key, and OSI are both way more inventive and creative. Train of Though is still my favorite DT release since Kevin left.

picked up some cheap dvds and a cd at the local store:

OZZY - Don't Blame Me (dvd $5)
OZZY - Live In Budokan (dvd $11)
Paul DiAnno - The Beast Live (cd $6) din't know what to expect from this live all maiden classic tracks disc, but I'm pretty fuckin impressed. Pretty damn brutal and not the cheesey cover album it could have easily been. it's been a long time since i've listened to anything DiAnno has put out but I figured a Maiden filled live album would be a safe bet, and the price was right. Glad I got it.

the strange thing is I read that the ones with the blue felt liners were the first issued (and the one I have) and that the family tree was numbered, yet mine is not although i do have a sticker with a number on the inside of the top of the box. the second release of this awesome collection had a red felt liner and no numbering.
it is an cool fucking collectable.

another one on my wishlist is the Megadeth coffin box with a 3D Vic Rattlehead coming out of the ground... but I haven't been able to justify forking out what most auctions end up selling it for.

I've gone a bit crazy on purchases lately.

Todays mailbox contained:
Mastodon - Oblivion 2 track cd with T shirt
Mastodon - Divinations - 2 track cd with t shirt BOTH ARE FUCKIN' AWESOME!!!!

Samson - Biceps Of Steel dvd (the box says there are special features like a photo gallery, and a 5.1 mix; however, there is no menu to access anything, the disc just starts playing the cheesey videos of "Hard Times" & "Vice Versa". After I ordered this I realized it was also included on the Bruce Dickinson Anthology dvd that I had... lucky for me this was dirt cheap. It's cool seeing Bruce pre-Maiden.

but I think i probably get more enjoyment from music.

i've owned lame cars most of my life (Escorts, Metros...) but as long as I could play metal when I was driving I did give a fuck what I had on the road as long as it got me where I was going and tape deck or cd player and speakers worked. The better the gas mileage, the more $$ I had for music.

I have Tiburon GT V6 now so at least I'm not in a geek mobile anymore.

Believe me, there's been lots of times when I look at my collection and think "MY GOD, YOU FREAK, DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU COULD HAVE PURCHASED IF YOU HADN'T BOUGHT ALL THESE ALBUMS AND CDS?" Then I think "Fuck It, I love my music and it's always there to cure me of whatever ails me"

That is a sweet ride though...

Dio - Holy Diver Live dvd ($5) what a bargain.

I watched the bonus live dvd that came with the new Riverside cd, and it's worth the price of the cd alone. Great performance.
