We used to have it a few years ago here in Montreal on Chom and some old hag who never even listened to it made a complaint and it got cancelled.

Its all part of a new "Zero Tollerance" policy by Clear Chanel.

Since the Janet Jackson / Justin Timberlake thing...the FCC has been freaking out.

Its all pretty stupid if you ask me.
God forbid that kids know what a fucking boob looks like!

Its great that other countries arent as close-minded as the Americans are & can show things on TV
without total Censorship based on Religious Ideals.

My 2 cents. Love it or leave it.

Hey, good to 'see' you Kula!

I can never stop wondering the ever-continuing hypocritical dual moralism in certain religious and political groups in the USA, or rather the large influence of those groups on the everyday media politics.

Well, we've got our share of freaked-out religious people here too, but thank Korgull they are in the political marginal. Boobs shouldn't be discriminated, I especially mean young, solid ones....*drool* *pant*

Maybe the majority of people who were so opposed were religious but I really don't think its a connected issue....if so...explain all the christian playboy models.

Religious people have boobs too.

I think overall its more about breaking the rules than anything else. Rules like these are there to make certain that you can flip on the TV on certain channels at certain times and not see boobs. The thing is...alot of people were watching.....thats how it becomes a close minded issue....the ammount of veiwers. I can't say anything about foreign TV because I have never watched it unless it was porn or something really popular. I, for one....don't really give a shit about the whole thing but I think I can safely say that it has nothing to do with religion. When did the US become the most religious country. Where the hell was I? Who said religious people are opposed to boobs?

We all know what it has to do with.
MONEY

Why else would all these other stations be pulling people who broke those rules out of chances to be on air? I'm not saying there are no bible thumping pro censorship people out there but if those people didn't have some kind of pull no one would listen to anything they had to say....and the boob thing is a totally different issue because it "appeared" to be an accident....even so...its an accident that doesn't need to happen in the eyes of those who set the rules for prime time....because if they can't keep it clean...somebody else will be happy to take over.

Nobody gives a shit about Janet Jacksons boob and anyone who says they do is just trying to start some shit untill things like that will no longer be live and god only knows who that will effect. Probably only certain organizations are permitted to do live broadcast and are pretty much in control when it comes to advertising at such events and all that happy shit. People may be freaking out and dropping jaws and pointing fingers but I really don't think its people sitting in the churches. Really.

Howard Stern is a different story because alot of people just don't like him. I think people think Howard Stern largely uninteresting and using what some may call indecency to get an audience. I personally don't care but I imagine somebody wants his air time.

Blah fucking blah blah blah.

Umm..

It has everything to do with Religion...as well as Money for that matter, but mostly Religion.

Most people have certain Morals that they go by and that is very influenced by theyre Religions.
Most the people who complained about Janet's Boob, did so because it offended theyre own Morality and the morality they indoctrinate theyre children into.
90% of the peoplr who called in to complain...were from the good-old American "Bible Belt."
Baptists, Pentecostals & the like.
Like it or not...America is a Judeo-Christian Country by large.
THAT plays a LOT into influencing Politics and Law.

Just look at EVERY case where the right to speak certain words, see certain images, etc, has been censored.
Who were the ones behind the push to censor what you see & hear?....RELIGION....CHURCHES.
This is the case in other countries as well.

Case and point: The Black Metal Band GORGOROTH in Poland and that stupid Polish Law that will imprison you for up to 5 years for "Offending" the Church.

Case and point: The Islam world that forbids Women to even show theyre faces or hold Jobs.

It all comes down to Religion.
Sure money plays into the matter too, but largely it is peoples Moral beliefs, as they have been brainwashed by whatever Religion they are a part of.

I liked Sharon Ozborn's reaction to the whole thing when she said that she wanted to see the other boob as well! hahaha!

AMEN to what KULA said. I agree 100%.

I had jury duty for the last 2 weeks (luckily sidebarred with the judge to get out of actually having to sit thru a trial... too much happening in my life to concentrate on some other fuck wit doing somethng stupid), and I think it's SO IRONIC that there is suppose to be a separation between church and state but they still let you swear on the Bible in a court room

Kula

You just gave two examples outside of the US.

That is exactly what I was talking about.

"as closed minded as Americans" holds no water even in your own opinion when you have to use other countries to support your claim.

As far as people who complained...
Complained to who?....The survey takers?
When did this happen?
Why was I not in the survey?

...because if I was, I would have said that I value the Christian faith and the teachings of the bible and I personally don't care AT ALL. Not one stinking bit.

I do however understand that there aren't many big events like this that are going to be live broadcast where there are going to be MANY veiwers from not only inside the US but elsewhere as well. People in other countries are talking about this and they don't even live here. Thats the only reason its a big deal. Its making alot of people look stupid. As far as bible thumpers complaining...I haven't heard any and I don't see how their opinion is going to be heard above all the people who have clearly stated they don't care unless they are somebody really important or somebody who wants you to think the majority of this country has morals.

Don't kid yourself.

The only reason they make you swear on the bible is because some people will lie all day long...but not in church. Its just a tactic to get people to tell the truth.
A time or two it may have actually worked which is better than nothing at all. I've often wonder this myself and when I think about it...its quite obvious that it became a tradition out of a scare tactic. I really don't think its a conspiracy by the Christian churches.
Who really cares anyway?
If you don't believe in the bible...you don't believe in it. Its not like cruel and unusual punishment to put your hand on it.

I think all this shit is stupid because A) if the Janet and Justin thing was planned...Why?....To deliberately piss off the FCC?

B) Why in the hell can't Howard Stern get an HBO show if he's catching this much flack?

If he gets fined...his money isn't going to pay the fines.

This is all a great big pile of horse shit.

I wonder who's going to be the first to say it has something to do with Bush.

Was Howard Stern arrested. This might be horse shit too, but I was told he was arrested on TV. Now if thats not a crock of shit and a good way to get a case thrown out...I don't know what is.

This is stupid and getting old fast.

Uh...Yes it does absolutely.

"As far as people who complained...

It wasnt a Survey. Where have you been?
People, by the thousands, simpily picked up theyre phones and called theyre Stations and the FCC Offices.
Those are the people whos largely Christian American Morals were offended.
Thus now, the clamp down by the FCC...on the Stations.

Uh...yes, it may...in your opinion.

What I had a problem with is you bringing the whole "American" thing into it. To make your statement make more sense, you should have left that out because "Americans" are the ones who are so notorious for "western ways"...it all depends on what day it is, what subject it is and who wants to knock America for what issue. Flip the coin and anyone can easily suggest that American television is too leniant in its content. There's alot of violence on TV and that hasn't been changed much by people complaining. Has it?

The simple fact of the matter is it didn't take phone calls to put the FCC in action on this one. I don't think they sat around and waited for public outcry and thousands isn't the majority. Most people I know don't care....as a matter of fact...no one I know cares. If thousands and thousands called and said they really don't care....would it matter? NO IT WOULDN'T.

They would do the exact same thing for their own integrity. Thats what they can do...thats what they do. The fact that show callers who oppose to what happened just supports their grip on the matter. Its just another way for them to flex their muscles and show that people stand behind them, but to think they had no intentions of doing anything untill they heard the opinions of random "religious" people is ridiculous. That is so clearly not the order of the equation here. The rules that were broke were not set forth for the benifit of church goers...but because of children. Thats the way its always been. There has always been time frames and rating laws with under aged veiwers in mind. Its got nothing to do with religion. If someone opposes and then says they are devout Catholic or hardcore babtist is secondary to the reasons these rules are in place.

The bad thing...this thing about "Americans" and their religions or their morals is not really what should concern anyone and you can't compare countries that don't even allow women on TV to TV in the US. Its apples and oranges. I really can't figure out what exactly your beef is here. Are you mad about religious people in the US (a place where I might add you should be able to find enough sleeze to suffice anyone)...or do you just not like where you live? Would you be happier somewhere else WITHOUT tuning back in to American media at all? Why don't you just do like everyone else who wants to see boobs and subscribe to the playboy channel?...If you have a credit card you can order girls gone wild off of TV...Hell, my 10 year old nephew knows how to find all the sleeze he wants if he has the urge to look for it. Can anyone really say that the US is THAT conservative all by itself?
My beef is not with "America"....but with peoples taste in entertainment. If I want to see porn, I can see plenty of it. THATS why I don't care and probably why no one else I know cares...It really doesn't make sense that they make such a big deal out of it when you can turn two channels over and see whatever you want to see....So why then?
Because its obscene? OBVIOUSLY NOT.

Its because somebody broke the rules and the people who are there to inforce the rules aren't sit back and look like pussies. They're gonna charge fines and get paid and throw their weight around and say they do it because we're all a bunch of proper bible reading goody goodies and don't want to see that shit...at least not on THAT channel...at THAT time. Gimme a break.

There are rules...somebody broke them...WHY?!

Thats the question to ask....WHY?....What kind of shit were they trying to start and if Howard Stern could go on another channel and do and say whatever the hell he wants...Why doesn't he....because it simply isn't as much fun. Sleeze isn't fun if you're not breaking rules...it's just sleeze.

This whole thing is dumb and I'm really starting to think the boob thing was a stunt but I can't for the life of me figure out why...I mean it always kinda looked that way but WHY?!....Thats the question.
Why all of the sudden is the FCC getting all excited?...because of the boob?...but why did that happen in the first place?...because all of the sudden everyone is religious and all of the sudden they care?

I'm not buying it.
I'm not claiming to understand it but religion and american morals has no place here...its just a good excuse.
There are so many other things that can be seen as offensive on TV. Why are those same people not complaining about it? Maybe they do...Why isn't anyone listening?...because it isn't conveniant.

Everyone has opinions and there is something more here then some church goers opinions.

Its one of two things...

MONEY or POWER

Maybe somebody IS trying to take some ones job or maybe the FCC needs to pay its employees...FUCK I DON'T KNOW...but the more I think about the boob stunt and all the OTHER CRAP on TV...I'm at least smart enough to know that its got nothing to do with religion.

Remember...God made the boob.

Charon...It is sad that you just dont get it.

But thats ok. I guess not everyone would.
At least there are people who can see what i am talking about and understand it.

The root of all evil is not Money. It is RELIGION. And that same RELIGIOUS system that legislates what you can see and hear.
That same RELIGIOUS system that tells you Money is the root of all evil...while at the same time wanting yours through a "Tithe" which if you refuse to pay, you are damned to Hell.

The fact is, Charon, that thousands of phone calls DID flood into the Stations, the FCC and the offices of the NFL.
Every one of those people who complained were RELIGIOUS people.
With that many people bitching about the Boob incident, the FCC had to act and clamp down.

The whole clamp-down would not even be happening today AT ALL...if the thousands of people hadnt called in to complain.
Clear Channel would still have Howard Stern on the air, and it would be business as usual.

So...as maybe you can open your eyeballs and see...the RELIGIOUS RIGHT in the UNITED STATES, do hold a lot of power to largly censor what you can see and hear.

Also...I can absolutely use other Countries as examples to prove my point about the somewhat narrow-minded ways of RELIGIOUS Americans.
By compairing that to the narrow-minded ways of Islam, and Catholic Poland.
They are not "Apples and Oranges" as you say...but they are merely just different forms of the same thing.

Censorship based on RELIGIOUS Moralities.

Yes...It is happening here in America too.

Hex...READ WHAT I SAID...
"The Islam World that forbids Women to..."

I am clearly pointing to those areas that DO forbid it. Not the whole Islam world.
Pardon me for not being more specific.

Yes, i hate Religion, yes i hate the Terrorist Countries of America and Israel.
So fucking what.

Charon and others too:

What I meant was

1) not to make generalizations such as 'religious Americans', because there are at least a few dozens of millions of different views and opinions on morale and religion in the States alone. There are also Christian people who think with their own brains and base their beliefs on their OWN thoughts and experiences, and do not attempt to force feed them to others.

2) that some of the people who have their say on what should be shown on TV and what shouldn't very often bring forth (often very uptight and even puritan IMO) ideas of morale as 'the will of the American people' when someone asks why it's so dangerous to, for example, show a boob for two seconds on TV.

3) the "religious" people such as many of the Bible Belt leaders are, against the Christian idea of equality of everyone in the eyes of God, placing themselves above the "sinners and doers of evil". They are continually practicing their power over their followers by feeding them their ideas and concepts of morale etc. as 'words of God'. This is also typical of many other countries' religious leaders, even we've got our share of this type of people. They're telling other people what's right and wrong in the name of God.

4)I think the human body shouldn't be ashamed of in any way. The people I'm talking about stigmatize it with the concept of 'sin', but in my view it's not the body that decides what to do - it's the mind, the soul, the spirit or whatever you want to call that thing that is right now reading this text through your eyes. Of course if you don't believe in any kind of spiritual entities, it's the body that makes the decisions, but then again you wouldn't believe in 'sin' or the existence of God - and probably woulnd't mind seeing a boob on TV.

5) in other words, I personally think it's really weird from an outsider's view to see this kind of a hulabaloo rise from such a (IMO, again) trivial event.

6) These are just my opinions, I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong here. Just my view of the subject matter. Being a Finn who lives in Finland, I can't really say I'm a great expert when it comes to American (or other) cultures. My view is based on what I've seen and heard in the American and Finnish medias, both official and unofficial. If you think there is something seriously wrong with my view, feel free to debate.

I always appreciate a good argument, especially in a foreign language (preferably one I can understand to some extent) !!
