Is this another practical joke????
wot the fuck is this, may be the last one? aaarrrrggghhhhhhh!!!!
This is most disturbing. I had assumed that some of the stuff on the last album was a bit of a strange practical joke the band had pulled, to see how many journalists would say it's their best album just cos Newsted is in the band. And I reached the conclusion that they must be cackling ferociously, all the way to the bank. Which would explain why Snake's vocals sound great on the Probot track but a bit ropey on the album.
Don't get me wrong, there's a couple of great songs on there like Gasmask, Divine Sun, Reactor.. but... never before have I felt the compulsion to skip tracks while listening to any 'Vod album. Ok, they never made the same album twice, but all their other albums are superb, & I love the mellow stuff like Angel Rat just as much as the heavier stuff. It's just that the last album seemed a bit Not Quite Right, if you'll excuse my honesty, & in places, Not Pleasing To The Ear.
Although the artwork is beautiful, as always.
In view of some of the other wind-ups that have been circulating, such as tales of the Voivod story being based on a vampire called the Voivode who lived in Transylvania, etc etc, (which I also put down to maybe the band members having a strange sense of humour), this seemed a logical explanation.
Can't someone try to sort out copies of these demos? This is most unkind.
I had just sort of assumed that for the next album they would go Ha ha, Just Kidding, & release a mind-bendingly brilliant, twisted, creepy, atmostpheric & heavy spacelord motherfucker of a double album to make up for it, perhaps more along the lines of Phobos.(please please please!!!) Kind of like waking up from a bad, bad dream.
And what happened to the space spider idea?? That sounded like an interesting topic.
Oh well, I'm still waiting to get my filthy fingers on Project Failing Flesh - from what I've heard that should make up for it!
Guys, it's time to own up, are you Taking The Piss??? Please, please do not insult our ears with songs like Rebel Robot again.

Good sir, although I must admit that I mostly agree with you on the fact that the s/t album was not what almost everyone hoped it would be and was promised to be by the band (NF on steroids), and that it does contain some weaker tracks, Rebel Robot still brings a smile on my face when I listen to it. The demons are so creative!

Opinions are of course subjective, but I just had to express my love towards that song in public.

Personally i would never call a Voivod song horrible. The song in particular is nice to hear in my opinion. Not that we want nice Voivod songs btw.
BTW, i see that you are becoming more and more into computers....

Apologies for being catty, I have been living in London too long obviously!!!I am turning into a right arsehole, heh heh. Any tattooists outside of London wanna give me a job??? I make a nice cuppa tea.
Yeah, I'm at my dad's at the moment & am taking full advantage of having internet connection, emailing everyone. It is distracting me from doing my work.. there are some really cool peple on this forum!..never mind I'll go back to my nice dark secluded mossy cave next week then you'll be rid of me!!
Sorry but I really don't like that song or Flying Cigars. I know if any other band had released that album I would consider it a great album, it's just that compared to all their other ones it sounds a bit pants. Not meaning to be nasty but after Phobos I found it disappointing. I was over the moon when I heard Snake was back & Jason had joined & got my hopes up somewhat unrealistically. It is a good album anyway.
Just less perfect than the others!!
I'll just shut up ranting..

Long time ago we had this topic about the fact that every band had their bad album. For example CF: Cold lake; Destruction: Cracked Brain; etc. etc. I guess Voivod had theirs in the last one, i agree. But that would mean the next one is gonna be bigger, better, fatter, extremer, better texts (not about flying cigars but flying burning bombs). More riffs, more double bassdrums, screaming vox. More Away art (wich is always fabulous, i like the art on Kronik the most...the inside lay-out that is). And eventually better sale figures..........

Come on guys. Do it one more time.

Shhhhh! Easy, easy here, or we'll be called "voivodhaters" all over again.
And anyway it's not that bad, it's..... hmmm... how does it sound like anyway?.... Haven't listened to it since the album came out....[/QB][/QUOTE]

"voivodhaters"? How paranoid are these guys?
that's very disturbing.

I didn't much like Flying Cigars either and found, and still find, myself skipping that song.
Yeah, we'ver heard the pro-Phobos arguments a bit around here before. Great dark and sick disc, that one.

Yeah... just had a read through some of those. That's pretty sad.. but it seems more people use this site rather than voivod.com. And it doesn't seem too negative to me, all the coolest people are on here by the looks of things.
If people didn't like the band they wouldn't be here anyway.
And the artwork is nicest on this site! So there!

I liked the last album. If I hadn't, I wouldn't be here, 'cause I wouldn't have starting digging around online for all things Voivod. (I'd never heard of 'em before, y'see.) The album as a whole is not my favorite, now that I've heard the rest of their catalog. But I still don't think it's a bad album.

Still, I don't like Flying Cigars. Almost always skip that one.

No point being too over-sensitive about criticism - we all get it.
If people can't be honest, what's the point?
Anyway I'm sure I read an interview somewhere where they pretty much admitted that Flying Cigars was a joke song. Was quite a while back. And in view of some of the bullshit stories I've heard circulating round, I think I'm not being unfair in asking if they are taking the mickey somewhat more than they will admit to in interviews.

No idea about it being the basis of the little Voivod story, but "Voivode" was a genuine eastern European title. Vlad the Impaler was Voivode of Wallachia, so that's where that comes from.

Vlad the Impaler came from a very interesting family. He had a brother who was known as "The Handsome". Must've made a very odd couple.

I see what you're saying about pulling our leg a bit - I think we might see after the next one's out, if it is. The self titled one was just a bit of fun for them, really. Nothing too taxing, playing it relatively safe, perhaps trying to reach a broader crowd with it. There's some good moments, and it's pretty solid, but not really Voivod. Warcorpse still summed it up best - we were promised Nothingface on steroids, we got Angel Rat on Viagra.

I'm up for more aggressive and chaotic. That would be nice.

OK, didn't realise that.
Dimension Hatross had a storysheet with it (with the vinyl anyway) which said something about the Voivod being an ancient warrior race, no mention of vampires!
So just figured it was another wind-up...

On the subject of "voivodhater.com" -
A friend of mine from school who's been into voivod since she was 15 (we both have, we're 30 &31 now) tried to register on voivod.com a while back & says she got a strange snotty email back, along the lines of We Will Have To Vet You Thoroughly To Make Sure You Are Suitable. Which upset her & made her a bit paranoid.
Perhaps the name of said website should be changed to WeDon'tLikeYouOldFansFuckOff&BringUsSomeNewOnes.com, or something along those lines.

I thought the last album was pretty good.Like most people on this board,i wish is was heavier but it's still one of the best albums to come out that year.
I also like Cold Lake. It's not their best but it is still better than most albums that came out that year.
If you look at what kind of crap ended up winning Grammy's you'll see what bad music really is.
While i agree that both of these bands could do better i'm just happy they are still recording. So i'll just enjoy whatever little morsel they give me.

Ya know... I haven't been visiting voivodfan.com for as long as most of you. But I can honestly say that the people that post here are some of the most intelligent, interesting and funny people on any metal band's fanstite.
A lot of us have been listening to the 'vod since the 80s, and we know most of the songs inside out... as such we are always going be the band's fussiest critics... simply because we love the music they produce so much.
As for the 80's quip in that Away interview... well, the 80's really did define the band's sound, so it's not suprising we enjoy that era which in itself covered a significant development in how they approached song writing then AND now.

What's more, we'll all buy the new album when it is released, just like we bought the album before that etc etc etc etc.

It's funny that all us 'haters' have a forum that is so much more active than the im-yuri-the-god-and-i-pass-judgement-on-everyone forum, or the other vv site at chophouse. Probably because our moderstors don't censor and we feel free to post our opinions without thinking that it will get pulled from the forum.

Head Villan, tell you friend to join us here, it's always great to get a new active voice on board, and if she's half as crazy as you, it'll make this place that much more fun.

BTW: I enjoy the last album and I think Flying Cigars grooved... goofy words but great music... I never skip it

That's weird. I don't remember getting anything like that. I do remember thinking it's kinda odd that you have to register in order to read the board, but I doubt they'd have nearly as many "members" as they do if they didn't require that. I bet the vast majority of people who register just read the board once and never come back.

Thanx!!
I'll let her know.
From looking at voivod.com, I gather that people who register & then don't post on the forum are not "Proper" fans & are just scavengers who are out to get the freebie package. This is apparantly how they vet the fans. How nice. So perhaps they started sending snotty emails out after a while. I didn't get one, but she registered a while after me.
Which I feel is kind of insulting to my friend, she is a very decent & intelligent person & has been into metal since she was 14. She is a very busy single mum with a demanding job (unlike me, I'm a lazy arsehole..) so she doesn't spend her time on the internet!
And when I registered on there a couple of years back, I could never get the forum to work, same goes for a couple of other people I know.. so of course I didn't leave any posts, I just gave up on it & I didn't bother going back there again. When I saw you could join the Iron Gang online of course I joined up, I tried to join years & years ago, no reply.. & I'm not the only one.
I am well tempted to leave a snotty message on that site
