Obviously there is no replacing Piggy, and Voivod could never again work without him...but I'm still left thinking that if there's going to be a sort of closure with the release of this last Voivod album, shouldn't there also be some sort of closure for the band/fans on the road as well? I'm only asking this because I never got the chance to see the classic line-up with Snake/Blacky, or even with Jason. The hardest question remains: "What guitarist could ever pull that off without any hitches? My answer is simple: Nobody. But what if there were "TWO" guitarists in the line-up? I had always thought that Pierre and Daniel from the project "Blackcloud" did an excellent job with Tribal Convictions! All I'm saying is that this could possibly be a fitting and loving "tribute" to Piggy from Vodfans all across the globe!

I like the TRIBUTE concert idea. Not a full blown tour, but a nice tribute with guest guitarists would be a beautiful idea, and make for one hell of a dvd/cd package.

Yes, a "tribute" concert would be very cool indeed, and believe me, I had thought of that as well! The only reason why I mentioned a "tour" as opposed to one concert, was that not everyone would make it to that special show. (I couldn't make it to the Queen show for Freddy, simply because it was in London) I dunno, I just thought that a tour, or even a possible few dates, would bring everyone closer to that special person known as Denis.

Well, it is sure that the death of Piggy has devastated the band's members and that Voivod as we know them will no longer exist.

It may be sad to say that now but life goes on and they are musicians, they have lived with music until now and I'm not in their shoes but I bet that huge loss doesn't stop them to continue that way.

I never had the fortune to know or speak with Piggy but I think he wish that Voivod didn't stop to create music even without him and what better homage to him will be to continue to spread his music over the world touring after this album comes out?

The pain for the loss of Piggy will never end but when it will become endurable the band should restart a new era of Voivod with another 1 (or two) guitar player.

Will there be a guitar player that could replace Piggy? I dont' think so, but for sure there will be one who could fit in the band and with an original style of playing that could help the band to continue to play his music or at least to support them for a last tribute tour.

isn't he in the "Where is he now" catagory? Haven't heard anything about Borland for years. I wasn't impressed by his Big Dumb Face project, but I do give him props for quitting "Limp Bisquick" at the peak of their carreer. I honestly wouldn't like to see Wes in Voivod if he's still into the goofy get ups and makeup... that wouldn't seem to fit the bands persona on stage. I do think he would have the chops and talent to play the music, however.

probably wouldn't be my first choice for a guitarist, but it is interesting to have his name come up.

Schroeder, my hat goes off to you for so effortlessly deflecting my wind-up.

Why are we even having this thread? Voivod after Piggy? Come on.

Well, it wasn't something that I thought of as a "permanent" solution...to continue Voivod without Piggy, that's just utterly ridiculous and stupid. Obviously this was too soon in the grieving process to ask, but on that note: I thought this would benefit the grieving process for many people.

I originally thought it was too soon to discuss and even mentioned something about it in a private email to someone, but when someone brought up the topic it was hard not to speculate what is/could be possible.

Piggy left the world a lot of music that he obviously wanted Away and Snake to have, to use, to create with, to share with all of us. With that in mind the next possible step after Snake and Away and Jason add their creative input would be to take it on the road to play it live. It sounds like Denis had many albums worth of demos/ideas recorded and it would be ashame if they weren't released in one form or another. Unfinished works, or as Voivod songs would be up to Away and Snake. And even though it's almost incoceivable to think of Voivod touring without Denis, it would be worse IMHO to not let the world hear what he had created.

If an artist passes away before completing a painting or drawing, the world would still want to see the unfinished peice... and if that artist's last wish was for one of his prised students to complete his work and unveil it to the world...

that's what I'm thinkin'
