Ok, so per your request.......

I'm just getting into this album and I have to say its WAY WAY better than I expected. I've only just brushed the surface of it having started with the bonus disc first and now just gotten into the first 3-4 tunes on the main album....there is a lot of magic here. I'm gonna comment more as I get more into it but I have to say that so far this thing is a beast.

Okay, so who else wants to talk about it?

I've only listened to it once so far... just been so damn busy I've hardly had the time, but I did give it my full attention, which is more than I do for a lot of records! It definately surprised me and is undoubtedly a great record. It did seem a bit "broadway" to me somehow! And that's not a complaint, it just had that feel to it - which I've never heard on a metal album! I need to give it a few more spins. No download code in the vinyl, so can't play it on the move. May have to pick up the cd too. But yeah, overall it's great.

With the two new guys it sounds different to the older albums, but it's still Voivod. Chewy & Rocky are doing more their own style, than trying to copy Voivod. Love it!

Good point Heino. Yeah, its different, not Voivod rehash....or just going through the motions.....like "hmmmm...what would Piggy do here?" kind of thing.

I've listened to everything now except for the last song. I have to say...my opinion, its really quite brilliant. One big thing I've noticed is that these songs take you to unexpected places...which reminds me of the Voivod of old.maybe right in the middle of a tune...but it doesn't sound forced or contrived..but quite natural..... So you quickly realize that each song is not just a song...but a journey.

I haven't listened to The Wake yet, I'm a little scared to do it, because
<negativity>
I didn't like Post Society at all. I know people liked it but I had to make myself listen to it. Just doesn't work.

Well, on that matter, I didn't like Infini either.

Now you can go ahead blame me for being negative, I recognize that fact. Neg on!

Tough call Hex. The Wake is really the natural expansion of the sound they were cultivating on Post Society (and really, Target Earth, before that), but I'd say the wake is more consistent and seems to be more developed as a whole... Can't say you'll like it, but it is progression, in a way.

Setting aside the great intentions behind the Infini LP, it's not all that engaging. The MkIII/Newsted era is the only period where I don't enjoy the full albums. Made a MKIII playlist so I don't have to skip through all the filler.

I like Post Society, but in hindsight it only sounds like a general repetition compared to the awesomeness that is The Wake. They finally seemed to have regained some of the old magic without copying the old stuff.

Instead of trying to be what people expect Voivod should be, they're thinking forward again and let it come naturally.

I'm not really feeling The Wake. Could be that I just need to give it time - like so many other VV albums, but I feel like it's lacking the "dirt" that the other albums contain.

Just a thought. Maybe I'm drunk. Again.

Is there an echo in here?
