Who here likes Porcupine Tree? I think it was you, Schroeder, who was all blento over this band a while back.Well. I am listening to the first album (1991 On the Sunday of Life) right now for the first time and i must say that DAMN this is GREAT! Unlike anything i have heard, although i hear many influences in it. Little things like King Crimson, Hawkwind, Aphrodite's Child (666 Album), Rush, Tangerine Dream, etc, etc. I can't believe it has taken me so long to hear this. I am ashamed! lol Cheers!

I am really into Progressive Rock a whole bunch right now, and enjoy listening to the Internet Radio PR station i have saved.Every now and then they play some PT, which is excellent, but i seem to dig this first album more than anything else i have heard..so far. I still need to listen to the rest. 2nd, 3rd, so on. See how they have developed over the years. At the moment, i am listening to a 3-disc compilation called 'The Best Prog Rock Album In The World...Ever!' It has a good selection & some things i never heard before. Has anyone ever heard the band...THE FROST? The album Milliontown is definitely worth getting. You guys would really like it. Other cool bands.... Camel Ozric Tentacles Iluvitar They keep playing (on the Radio) a lot of Dream Theater, whom i am not into so much. Anyways. Cheers!

I've been into Ozrics for many many years and have most of their early catalog. it's been a while since I've purchased anything new from them.A high school friend of mine, Dennis Mullen is the guitarist in Illuvatar. Very classic Genesis vibe. I remember going to see them when they first started playing and I still lived in the Baltimore area. You'll be in for a mind blowing experience the more the get into Porcupine Tree. On The Sunday Of Life reminds me a lot of Pink Floyd when Barret was still in the band... quirky, poppy, bizzarre prog rock. This album was before Steven Wilson found other musicians to be in the band and everything is pretty much played and sung by him with lyrical help provided by his friend Alan Duffy. The band member names were all fictitious and OTSOL was a compilation of Wilson's early demo tapes (and mega rare) "The Nostalgia Factory" and "Tarquin's Seaweed Farm". Once OTSOL was released and then "Up The Downstairs" came out, fans started requesting live performances from Porcupine Tree, Wilson then set off to assemble the band by recruiting Chris Maitland on drums, Collin Edwin on bass, and Richard Barbieri (previously of Japan) on keyboards to fill the seats. "The Sky Moves Sideways" was the first real release as a true band yet still mostly a Wilson project. "Signify" would be the real PT debut where the band was more of a democracy although Wilson still holds the presidential seat as main creator. your PT 101 lesson is over... now go study by putting on headphones and getting lost. You might want to check out Wilson's other projects: NoMan (with Tim Bowness on vocals... Porcupine Tree actually started as a side project from NoMan which was Wilson's first and main band) Bass Communion (ambient) Incredibly Expanding Mindfuck (or I.E.M.) (experimental kraut rock) Blackfield (prog pop with Israeli superstar Aviv Geffen) his solo material is also damn good and "Insurgentes" is a fantastic album -------------------- yawn

By the way, while i am thinking about it... Does anyone in here have the album by the long defunct band MARY, MY HOPE? The one with the song 'Suicide King' on it. They were from Scotland i think.
Holy Shit! The singer from Mary, My Hope (James Hall) and I are very close friends. I'll ask him if he has any of those albums left. He was living here at the time of Katrina and may have lost them though. His place took over 8' of water. He released a solo record on Geffen in '95 (very good), 2 albums with his band Pleasure Club a few years ago, and is about to put out a new record in a few months. He was just in for Thanksgiving and did played a show that Saturday night. Very intense performance, as always. A little side note: He was the first choice to sing for Velvet Revolver (they were label mates at Geffen), but chose to stick with Pleasure Club at the time. Creatively, it was a very wise choice. Just sent him a text. I'll let you know.
