VOIVOD Waits For Injured JASON NEWSTED - Jan. 30, 2007

World Entertainment News Network reports that Canadian metal legends VOIVOD have shelved plans to begin work on a new album to allow bassist Jason Newsted to recover after hurting his arm in a freak accident.

Newsted reportedly tore his bicep and rotator cuff trying to catch a bass that had fallen off an amplifier last October, forcing him to pull out of a tour with supergroup ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA.

But he is on the mend and will record his bass lines separately to VOIVOD.

Drummer Michel "Away" Langevin says, "He needs time to recover from the surgery he had."

As previously reported, VOIVOD's video for the "Katorz" (2006) track "The Getaway" has been posted online at YouTube.com. The clip was created by editing together footage from the album's recording session and the band's 2003 U.S. tour. Currently, the band is working on a clip for "Polaroids" and will follow with a video for "The X-Stream". VOIVOD is also finalizing plans to re-release their early back catalog on The End Records. Langevin said the band will start with 1986's "Rrröööaaarrr", the following year's "Killing Technology" and '88's "Dimension Hatröss". He said each LP will be remastered and upped with a bonus DVD.

Sigh. What possessed Jasonic to have anything to do with Supernova in the first place, and why didn't he let that amp fall on the floor? It's not like he hasn't got the money to buy another one...

Yes, and that's nothing new, as he recorded his parts "separately" for Katorz as well.

But that was different, wasnt it? These tracks weren't supposed to go on the album.

What do you mean Skul? I thought the guys knew from the start that they had enough material from Piggy's PC to make at least one more album after 14. (Plus some acoustic tracks, I think.)

Yah, i dunno... I thought they were gonna record their parts together for the follow up like they wished to do and said they would. Not that it's a big deal (clearly, it's not).

I see your point. I think Away recently said that Voivod's relationship with Jasonic is "long distance", presumably not just because of Supernova. He worked with them on the S/T, but as far as I know he didn't spend much time with the guys while recording or mixing Katorz. And it looks like more of the same for the follow up, especially now that he's injured.

Maybe I am biased, or maybe I have been listeing too much to Martyr's latest album (specifically the last 5 minutes), but I know of someone who is in excellent health and seems to have his chops in place to crush the bass parts for the upcoming album, with proper Voivod-basstones even. Too bad it'll never happen. **sigh**

BTW, I love that Martyr album all the way through... It's like Voivod on steroids and crystal meth and gets daily listens from me since purchasing it a few weeks back.

Back on Earth, it's probably good that Away and Snake are overseeing these last recordings themselves. I only hope they continue to use Glenn Robinson for production as he certainly seems to "get it" in regards to producing Voivod.

I second that nomination. Please just get past all of the trivial bullshit already...obviously life's too short as it is! At the very least he should play on a couple of songs...so should Eric!
