Hey, I just picked up the Yamaha Natural Sound Stereo Receiver R-90. Also got some random Optimus belt driven automatic Turntable. Thing is, I'm not exactly sure what I've done wrong, I get no sound. Maybe I'm not using the proper speakers? Either way, routing the Turntable through my computer and that works, but its not worth it just to play it on PC speakers.

Maybe if you could point me out a simple amplifier type thing? I've tried routing the TT straight to a set of PC speakers, and that works, but the volume is incredibly low, any way to up the volume would be perfect.

Thanks alot to anyone who can reply to this with any info.

Hi Ne0rC,

Not sure why you are using computer speakers? But, if you want to run through your computer so you can rip your vinyl to CDr, try this:

1. Hook your turntable up to the receiver... RCA cables into the phono input and attach the ground cable to the back of the receiver as well.

2. Now go from the "tape out" (RCA) on the back of your receiver to the soundcard on your PC and yer done... Adjust your soundcard and you should be cool to record or play LPs through your PC. If all you have is a 'mini' plug on your soundcard, you can get RCA to mini cables at Radio Shack for $3.

If you are just trying to use your PC speakers w/out the PC you'll need to go through your receiver first to get any real sound unless you have a preamp Example on Ebay). Not sure how well PC speakers would work with component receiver though...

I hope this helps Ne0rC. It's pretty straightforward if you have all the parts. If I'm not getting to what your looking for feel free to ask me more questions, email me, or I'm sure there's other vinyl fanatics here who have good advice.

So all pre-amps will boost the sound of the TT?

Something like: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=42-2825

Yep. That'll work. Be sure to get one that has AC rather than runs on batteries though.

Hrmmm, got a receiver, PC spakers, and TT up and running. Though, the sound is incredibly low.
