WOW!!!
That looks interesting and Chuck D on vocals is fuckin cool.

Ya gotta give props to Lombardo, he coulda easily played it safe and stayed all these years with Slayer, but he ventures out and has done a wide variety of different styles and projects.

My opinion only, Lombardo as good as he is, is overrated (Away totally blows him away), but Chuck D is incredible.

many props go out to Lombardo, who obviously doesnt want to stagnate as an artist. his famous bandmates could learn a thing or two from his attitude.

I'm a fan of Voivod. Away is a great drummer. But I won't blind myself as to think he's the best drummer in the whole multiverse, or at least better than Lombardo, a man who changed the way people look at metal drummers/drumming. Sorry, that's your opinion and I fully respect it. Can't agree with you, though.

Yeah!!! Hurray for Lombardo!!!

Oh, you mean DAVE Lombardo... Yeah that looks sweet (if i may say). Public Ennemy is probably the only rap band i actually enjoy. But doesn't Lombardo rely too much on the speed and double bass drums? I tend to think that Away is a more subtle drummer...

Oh, and Vernon Reid? Has a bit of a Kerry King syndrom, which is doing mindless hyperspeed wanking that doesn't make much sense for solos. But i love Living Colour anyway!

I really like Dave Lombardo. He's not a fancy drummer and never tries to be. Minimal, hard-hitting, and an impeccable sense of timing. Slayer's lucky as fuck to have him back.

This project sounds kinda hit or miss to me though... we'll see.

All hail King Buzzo, Luna!

From a Drummers point of view i would have to disagree.
Away is under-par when it comes to Lombardo.
No offence meant to Away, who is one of my Drummer Idols, but Lombardo does so much more
on the kit.

Now...I am strictly speaking from a Drummer's Technical point of view.
I do certainly respect Imran's opinion on this though.

Both drummers are excellent.

But my vote is with Lombardo. Listen to Reign In Blood and South Of Heaven side by side and you can hear the raw aggression and speed in the former, and the maturity/subtleties in the latter. I would say that he never 'overplays' and has impeccable timing, way better than, for instance, Paul Bostaph's whilst he was in Slayer. He made everyone think again about the way drums are played in metal. He's not the fastest, nor is he the most technically proficient, but in my mind he deserves a lot of kudos for what he has achieved and his willingness to branch out into other fields. Slayer could indeed learn a lot from him.

Lombardo has some crazy side projects, like the one where he jammed to Vivaldi.

Lombardo doesn't do anything a good drum machine can't handle., where Away-as mentioned before-uses more subtlties, has more style and class and won't be duplicated by any other drummer or computer.

New fantomas should be awesome tho!

Let me rephrase: I prefer Aways style over Lombardos.

funny where this thread went to, haha.

to me, Lombardo vs. Away = apples vs. oranges, even though they are both technically "thrash metal drummers" in a lowest common denominator way of describing their playing.

i think Aways got more soul/inventiveness, Lombardos got better technique/power.

both are fucking amazing to watch.
