From Blabbermouth:
JASON NEWSTED Leaves OZZY OSBOURNE, Is Replaced By ROB ZOMBIE Bassist - Dec. 4, 2003

Former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted has officially left OZZY OSBOURNE and has been replaced by ex-ROB ZOMBIE bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson. Newsted, who was with the band for less than a year, left due to undisclosed reasons.

"It's still settling in," Nicholson told MTV.com about his new gig. "It's something I never would have imagined. After playing with Rob Zombie, I was ready to go, 'OK, this is as far as I'm taking this bass-playing thing. This is the end of the road.' I was ready to kind of hang it up.

"But when this came around, it was very odd," he added. "I was almost like, 'There is no possible way that this could happen.' "

At least one other bassist — FEAR FACTORY's Christian Olde Wolbers — jammed with Ozzy, guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Mike Bordin in recent weeks, but Nicholson was hired after successfully completing two auditions.

"The first audition was a little intimidating, to say the least," Nicholson said. "Granted, I know Zakk and I've been on Ozzfest before. The situation wasn't uncomfortable, it was just intimidating, playing these songs that I had never played. But the second audition, I was a lot more prepared.

" 'Into the Void' is my favorite BLACK SABBATH song and Ozzy called it out," he continued. "At that moment, I realized, even if I don't get the gig, the fact that I got to play 'Into the Void' with Ozzy was the coolest moment of my life!"

Place of Skulls Newsletter

December 4, 2003

Well brothers and sisters, time for another look into our world of rock 'n' roll...the way we see it.
A year and a half ago, armed with an idea to bring together our styles and imagery to a single musical force, we laid down the groundwork for what we envisioned to be (and dubbed by the press) a super-group of doom metal. Together, we've stuck it out despite the pressure and stress of being in a band with members living in different states... not really the small feat it appears on the surface.

We've now come to an amicable and agreed decision that to continue this arrangement is no longer feasible. The travel to and fro has become more of a burden than we probably admitted to ourselves in the beginning…and scheduling our personal responsibilities and commitments to an ever-changing calendar is just no longer worth it. So as of now, Place of Skulls will continue onward with Victor, Tim, & Dennis, while Wino focuses solely on The Hidden Hand.

We especially regret the disappointment that some of you may feel about this decision. We know from your feedback that a lot of anticipation was building for a tour of live performances. Again, we truly regret that this can't happen. Never the less, we're very thankful to have "With Vision" as a result of this relatively short working relationship. We feel confident and appreciative that we succeeded in bringing you a classic album that will leave it's mark.

The shows that are already confirmed for PoS, as well as international tour plans, will go ahead as scheduled but without Wino. <--WTF!

From hearsay and offhand remarks, we know there's a number of you who've "straddled the fence" from the beginning where Place of Skulls is concerned. We understand this. Sometimes we may come from a place or point of view that clashes with many of your own philosophies. That same backlash has been felt with The Hidden Hand. None of us are trying to push agenda's here…politics and religions are the never-ending arguments that will never be 100% solved in this life. We propose an agreement to disagree where it may apply, and lets get on together with the enjoyment of some heavy ass music.

We've gained many new fans since the release of "With Vision", and we (Place of Skulls & The Hidden Hand) hope you'll all stick around for the next chapter.

We speak with reciprocating respect and admiration for one another, and our respective bands, in saying our friendships remain strong and intact. Our only regret is that we won't be able to fulfill the expectations of what could have been.

Sincerely,

Victor, Wino, Tim, & Dennis

"looks like the supergroup is no more" ?
that didnt last very long....
one good thing, 'dennis' guitarist/vocalist of revelation is still in there.

I'm glad Jason quit Ozzy. He should devote all his energy to Voivod. Ozzy's washed up. He's a fucking joke. A disgrace to his musical heritage. Voivod is the future. Voivod is relevant. Voivod matters.

Oh, thank fuck. Good news. VV should have been priority number one anyways, and now it is again. Unless he's gonna go and join Testament or something now...

Yes, he was. Good for him, that's for sure!

I second you, Nuc. Ozzy should have retired in the mid-80's for his own good. But then again, he's a now a top celebrity and is making millions of dollars out of his embarrassing TV show and the OzzFest thing. Who's to blame anyway? Sharon?

The only think I couldn't really take was him being all too excited about meeting George W. Bush... WTF! The guy who sang "War Pigs" became friends with the warlord himself?! I want out now...

BTW, I hope Jasonic devotes all his time to Voďvod now!!! What about touring South America for a change???

Awww, give Ozzy a break.....he was sexually molested as a child! No wonder he drowned himself in alcohol and drugs.....but yes, he should have given up years ago.

As for Jason.......whatever..............maybe I'll change my mind when and if the next album blows my fucking mind!!!!!

Well that didn't last long. Maybe it had something to do with the rest of Ozzy's band not 'eating metal and shitting chains'!

Poor Ozzy should retire. Aboo...

Zakk Wylde was pretty much toast when I saw him at Ozzfest at the signing booth deal. He was signing at the same time Voivod were, and he kept banging some fucking metal chair on a table and yelling and slinging beer on people, including Voivod! People thought it was sort-of funny, like an act or something, but others could tell that he was just blitzed out of his mind on a hot summer Texas day at 4:30. Snake finally got fed up and just stood up and walked away from the whole signing thing--he wasn't very happy. Not to take away from his musical abilities, but IMHO Zakk Wylde is a drunk jerk idiot.

"..but IMHO Zakk Wylde is a drunk jerk idiot."

...a drunk jerk idiot with an awesomely huge vibrato.

Zakk is kinda like Ted Nugent if you think about it.
