There goes the neighborhood!

NEW YORK (AP) - Jewel was on track to have the first No. 1 album debut in her career - until Metallica decided to release their album a few days early to blunt the effect of bootleggers.

As a result, Jewel's new disc, ``0304,'' has debuted at No. 2, with 144,000 copies sold.

Metallica's ``St. Anger'' was No. 1, with 418,000 copies sold, according to industry figures released Wednesday. The album was originally due to be released this week, but instead went on sale last Thursday.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Jewel was nonchalant about her almost No. 1. ``It's all out of my control,'' she said.

She added that it's still the highest-debuting record she's ever had: ``It's really unusual that you'll have a higher-debuting record than any other record in your career. Usually, 10 years into your career, it's going down.''

``0304'' is a departure for the 29-year-old singer-songwriter; she's traded in her folklike ballads for a dance beat. In addition, her image has gotten sexier; her new video features her dressed in skimpy, revealing clothes.

Jewel has always been a beautiful creature in my eyes, even though I don't really care for her music at all. She didn't have to go and get her teeth fixed, that's not even what I am looking at whenever I see her, LOL!

Remember when her spoken word poetry C.D. was released? I remember visiting some kooky friends of mine who were playing it continously, over and over again for as long as possible - damn near drove us all insane! You know, I never really liked her much myself until that fateful day when I come across a very sexy picture of her wearing a very tight pair of spandex shorts! Since then I have been a fan! You know, I'm sure that she is a very nice person - it's just when she starts singing! Then again, if given a choice I would much rather see her perform than Metallica! Either way I'd show up at the concert with my walkman so that I can listen to some good tunes. At least with Jewel I can also bring along a pair of binoculars!

I don't think she's amazing, but she's one of the better "poets" in the mainstream.

Sure beats Tori Amos...

But TORI IS the creator of this latest wave of hot sultry sexy well talented folk rock emotional godesses. Her Little Earthquakes cd opened the door for a lot of new talent. The were a few with Tori (PJ HARVEY) but none had the impact that Ms Amos had (has).

Some could try and argue it was Ani DiFranco that opened the door, but she never really broke into the mainstream. Plus she isn't sultry sexy LOL!

Jewel owns . That is all . Barcelona , Kiss the flame and Enter from the East ( from her Spirit album )are amazing songs imo and her new song '' intuition '' is catchy i must say , it's a very cool parody of the Aguilera , Shakira , Spears and Pink . Brilliant !

Bleah. For dance music I'll take Peaches over Jewel any day of the millenium... 'Fuck the Pain Away' is an undeniable classic. People will be shaking their asses to Peaches long after 0304 has disappeared out of the mainstream and is just one of the records Jewel did way back when.

For poetry-rock and flat out great playing, Patti Smith rules the universe.

And what about Lucinda Williams? I guess she's not 'sultry sexy' enough either.
