Lawmakers Call 'Droopy Pants' Bill an Embarrassment.
Updated: Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 - 4:43 PM RICHMOND, Va. - The so-called "droopy drawers" bill was laughed out of a Senate committee Thursday after the legislation was called an embarrassment to Virginia.
The Senate Courts of Justice Committee voted unanimously to kill the bill that calls for a $50 dollar for anyone who shows his or her underwear in a "lewd or indecent" manner.
This was a special meeting of the committee called to deal just with this bill as lawmakers felt that news stories were giving the impression that the General Assembly was preoccupied with droopy pants.
Included in the standing-room-only crowd Thursday were about 75 senior government students from Surry County High School.
Seventeen-year-old Elvyn Shaw says that if people in Florida can wear bikinis, a little underwear showing isn't going to hurt anyone.
The sponsor of the droopy pants bill, Delegate Algie Howell of Norfolk, says he did it on behalf of his constituents, including customers at his barber shop who were just tired of seeing people walking around with their underwear exposed.

i see the republicans dont have a strong of controlling grip as many assume they do. anyway it would have just given the police the right to harass anyone with droopy pants and automatically entitles you to a body search, ect...
pretty much the same way most of the youth of the 80's and 90's with long hair were singled out.
