I lived in Southern Indiana for a little while and used to see Transgression and FUCT all the time. FUCT in fact were guys I went to jr. high with in Germany, playing Jump Bug and listening to Motorhead. That band was cryptic and amazing. I think they were total acid-heads, but amazingly heavy, like a crazier COC circa Animosity. Last time I saw them play was in Washington DC circa 1991 -- they were listening to Treponem Pal's first album in the van. Transgression were oddballs, the natural outcome of a tiny city like Indianapolis where everyone was on their own trip. They were some of the only people in Indiana aware of the outside world, though, so they had a Napalm Death influence as early as 1987. They were rad, playing hyperspeed but writing catchy songs. Mike Williams from Eyehategod always reminds me of their spitting ratty-faced singer. John Zeps from Transgression turned me on to the this simple but great band from Greenwood, IN, called Drop Dead. They recorded about five demos on a Radio Shack mixer in the late '80s while their singer was on house arrest, and they totally kicked ass with pounding thrash. I feel like it's important to acknowledge the influence of Robitussin on the Indy scene, just for the sake of it. -- IAN www.soundofthebeast.com

Funny you should mention the Indiana scene back in the day, as I was there watching it all go down too. I remember all of these bands well, since I gigged with pretty much all of them at one point or another during the late 80's & early 90's. My band (Scourgin' Zombies) along with most of the others played alot at places like the Ritz Music Hall, Emerson, patio, Vogue, blah blah blah...I loved it all!I knew Zeps from his post-Transgression band, Delerium. He was still running his record shop near Speedway (I think) & I'd run into him everywhere. I think we even got drunk together at a CD release party for a compilation (Children of the Corn)we were both participating in. I recall doing a multi-bill with Transgression too, along with Drop Dead & a slew of national thrash acts @ the Ritz. I LOVED THAT PLACE! I remember doing a show with F.U.C.T. @ Holiday Park in '89. I remember their album was with the Nashville indie label, "Carlyle Records", who we had also attempted a production deal with. It had only been out a short time when we played together. They were sort of local heroes at the time. Drop Dead, I always felt was overrated. Cool vocals, but the music always seemed plodding & repetitious. They were never very cool to other local bands either. We played with them prob 10 times & they NEVER spoke a word to any of us. What's odd is that alot of ppl didn't realize they were a christian band. Other memorable bands from the scene were Blatherskite, Blacklisted, Gadfly, Toxic Reasons, J.O.T., Bramble Grit, Raw Meat, Zero Boys, Sloppy Seconds & the list goes on. Damn, I miss those days. I wish I knew what everyone was up to now... -------------------- There are 3 kinds of people in the world: Those who can count and those who can't.

Well this thread is completely old, but there is definitely news regarding FUCT. I grew up watching those cats too in Huntsville, AL back in the late 80s. Amazing shows. They have reformed with 3/4 of the original lineup and have a new album out on Supernova Records. The guitar player, Brooks died a few years back. I just saw these guys a couple weeks ago with local punk band, Cancerslug. My band was originally on the bill too, but our drummer couldn't get off work. But what a trip down memory lane! Great show and great to see these guys back at it. Definitely worth checking out. FUCT were huge Voivod fans back in the day as many of us in Huntsville were. I highly recommend checking FUCT out. F.U.C.T. link -------------------- My nick has nothing to do with Newsted. Been using it since 97 as an homage to another fave band, Sonic Youth. But I like Newsted just fine.
