I've heard someting like that:
it's complete other than Katorz and the new album was able to replicate her earlier success.

When ya have Piggy on guitar you don't need a fuckin keyboard.

So touchy, just an opinion.

The Dio Sabbath had keyboards as did Outer Limits. Try some Midnattsol, Tiamat or Catalfalque, great Gothic Metal.

All opinions are welcome. Dio-era Sabbath and Tiamat are great and the keyboards work well with their music. However I don't think they'll work with the more punkrock style Voivod had on the last few albums. Also, Piggy's guitar work is so totally unique, it doesn't need any extra instruments to complement it.

I'm a huge fan of Dio, and many other bands that utilize keyboards (OSI, Chroma Key, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, the list is endless) but I just feel that you don't mess something that's perfect already. I didn't really know the Outer Limits had keys, I always thought Piggy created all the sounds with his guitar.

I think some bands have suffered and lost their unique feel by adding keyboards into their formula when it previous wasn't a main instrument for the band. Govt Mule is a prime example. They lost their raw edge and now sound more like the Allman Bros, or the Grateful Dead than what the sounded like before.

Anyway, to each his own, right.

If you watch the short 'making of Katorz' film, Away talks about Piggy telling him that "the guitar tracks need to be re-amped, or they'll sound thin" and there's footage of them doing so... But this BWBK article about Infini states that these tracks have *not* been re-amped... What's the deal? Anyone? Bueller?

All the best,
PAULIE

I think Away was trying to explain how Piggy instructed to not change the guitar tone and that it needed to sound thin...

I suspect it is so you can hear every tone from each chord, (heavy mid-range is totally part of Piggy's style)

imo

If so, this is the polar-opposite of what was explained by Away and what was actually done with Katorz.

Best,
PAULIE

I love the fact that it's a little over a week until release date, and much like the new Amorphis, Infini still hasn't leaked. That's rare in this day and age.

Does anybody know the feelings, when you buy a new release that you didn't hear before?
I'm so happy that i "only" heard two songs before! As i wrote above it will be released tomorrow (Europe), so now it has been leaked.
But in this last moments, i don't want to waste the traffic or time.

Listening to it right now for the first time. Sweet!

"Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it."
