Of course, that was unavoidable. Anyways...here goes:1. Amorphis - Silent Waters 2. Les Ékorchés - s/t 3. Behexen - By The Blessing of Satan (well, it's a 2004 album but it was new to me this year... and i LOVE IT!) 4. Alcest - Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde 5. Kosmos - s/t (trippyyyy!) 6. Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet 7. Paranoland - the three tunes on their MySpace... fuck!! I want this on cd! 8. Exodus - The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A 9. I want to say EOLB's new one but i've been lame and didn't order it... yet. Duds of 2007: 1. Ozzy - Black Rain (what utter crap!) 2. Megadeth - United Abominations (despite occasionnal moments of brilliance, the lyrical theme totally turned me off. And dont get me started about the Jack Bauer stuff in the booklet.) 3. King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul.. Please! (I quite liked it originally, but it died a quick death in my speakers... I found myself putting on The Puppet Master or Conspiracy instead. *shrugs*) 4. the 2nd Argor demo (cuz it didnt even happen) Gig of the year: Can't really pick one, cuz they were all good! Les Ékorchés at L'Impérial killed me, the Soothsayer / DBC / Piggy Memorial thing was awesome too. Piledriver at Le Velvet, however, was the most METAL!!!!!!!!!!!! gig i've ever seen, i think. Holy fuck what a show! Welp, i think that covers it.

Just a little releases really caught my attention this year:SIGH - Hangman's Hymn (I know people from here didn't like it. They might have a point, but anyway I love it! IMO, far superior than Gallows Gallery) MINISTRY - The Last Sucker (stay Al, stay!!!) MACHINE HEAD - The Blackening (say what you will, this BELONGS to a "best of" list) I honestly can't remember anything else. Nile's new one is good, but I don't think it belongs to a "best of year" list. Didn't listen to EOLB and Kosmos yet, so my list can change. Other than that, I really liked "Heroes", and this is from someone who gives a shit about TV series (I really sense Mez will stone me for that, dunno why... ). -------------------- "Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." Often - but with Deathklok this year and the Ocean - I've had plenty of muscial entertainment this year!
When modern music seems unrelentingly poor though - I usually revisit my Van der Graaf Generator CD collection and reflect that nothing modern could ever match it in quality anyway! PS They will have a new album out in 08 with the power trio line up - I can't wait - the new songs live on the last tour were amazing. Especially All That Before. Awesome riffage! -------------------- Steven Hargraves Rhythm Guitar in Monstrance https://www.facebook.com/monstranceofficial

Here's mine : Top ten METAL 2007 1- Devin Townsend : ZILTOID THE OMNISCIENT (Mars Attack metal as it's best) 2- Entombed : Serpent Saints 3- Blood Red Throne : Come Death (It sound like old school floridian death metal, it's brutal and catchy) 4- Hail of Bullets - Promo EP (with Martin Van Drunen on vocal) 5- Darkthrone - F.O.A.D 6- Paradis Lost - In Requiem 7- Shinning - V : Halmstad 8- Municipal Waste - The Art Of Partying 9- Les ÉKORCHÉS - self titled (featuring Away on drum this record somehow reminds me Roots from Sepultura .. great band live too) 10- Dekapitator - The storm before the calm A special mention goes to cartoon metal Dethklock - The deathalbum because it content lots of cheese Let's not forget the psychedelic masterpiece that is the KOSMOS album. I should also mention that I add a blast in 2007 working on the We Are Connedted Voivod tribute video. I met Away, Snake and Blacky for this and it was great. I also collaborated with Snake for the PARANOLAND myspace background artwork. The album will surely kick some major ass! For 2008 I hope to see the RRROOOAAARRR remastered, the AWAY art book and the last chapter of the Voivod saga!!! -------------------- Remembered in space.... to the DEATH...... et ŕ l'INFINI www.disjonk.com Ethereal Chrysalis VOIVOD tribute video We Are Connected VOIVOD: Kluskap O' Kom music video ETHEREAL CHRYSALIS - Lovecraftian fantastic short film directed by Syl Disjonk
