What's the point of this kind of lists anyway? They're not specifically enriching my spiritual life nor do they encourage me to buy all those albums (a closer look at my record collection, however, does reveal I DO possess Neil Young's 'Harvest').

Anyone can compile some top 10, 50, 100, 666 or whatever and publish it and there will always be fools that consider it as the utter truth. That's what makes MTV so popular. And Rolling Stone magazine. But it doesn't save Earth from starvation, world wars and natural disasters.

The Big Beast is controlling our minds! Consume and be a Good Citizen.

Now, where was I? Ah, well, I was trying to tell anyone who stopped reading 3 paragraphs ago that not reading this lists may prevent us from alien attacks.

Ehm, well, better have a cup of tea now, sorry for wasting your time...

Well, actually I think there's alot of good stuff in there. And that Voivod made it is a big plus. Probably the only metal band in there (unless you consider Rush and Bachman-Turner Overdrive metal...)

"Mersereau surveyed 600 music journalists, retailers, musicians and disc jockeys of all ages, from all parts of Canada. They each submitted a list of 10 favourite Canadian albums released between 1957 and 2007."

personally, i'm just really surprised voivod ended up on the list because a lot of the stuff that was chosen was radio friendly, and very commercially successful. i think it says something that with 600 participants, spanning 50 years of music, voivod is on there - whether you think the rest of the list is shit or not...

Taking that into consideration and the fact there was only 600 participants, it IS incredible that Voivod got listed not to mention at 64 and for Nothingface, no less. Not exactly a commercial success just an amzingly groundbreaking album in terms of metal... often immitated never duplicated... noone has come close to sounding like Voivod even after all this time, the music the released back then is still unique and timeless. The combination or Blacky, Snake, Away, & Piggy was a team of musicains that can never be created again to produce music like that... fuckin brilliant.

Dimension Hatross is better than all of those records. Maybe the list starts at 0 and they forgot to print it... yeah... that must be it... no other possible explaination.

While I admit their songs and albums may sound same-y, they still wrote "Nautical Disaster", and for that alone they have all my respect.

quote:
"Nautical Disaster"

I had this dream where I relished
The fray and the screaming that filled my head all day
It was as though I'd been spit there, settled in , into a pocket
Of a lighthouse off some rocky socket,
Off the coast of France, Dear

One afternoon, four thousand men died in the water here
Five hundred more were thrashing madly as parasites might in you blood
Now I was in lifeboat designed for ten and ten and only,
Anything that systematic would get you hated.
It's not a deal nor a test nor a love of something fated.
The selection was quick, the crew was picked and
those left in the water got kicked off our pant leg and we headed for home.

Then the dream ends when the phone rings
You doing alright he said it's out there ,most days and nights
But only a fool would complain
Anyway Susan if you like our conversation is as faint as the sound in my memory
As those fingernails scratching on the hull

I'm playing the Tragically Hip's myspace stuff now. Kinda cheesey (even for a geek like me). The singer's voice is annoying. They sound more like an 80's new wave band.

Back to my new RIVERSIDE cd.
