Damn, thats really sad.

Strangely enough we covered 'Golden Hair' at our gig a couple of days ago on a whim.

I love his solo music very much and I'll be putting it on tonight. Probably there will be cider, also.

This is very sad, my favourite Floyd album has always been Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and Syd is one of my favourite guitarists of all time. R.I.P RSB.

Really sad news indeed.

Strangely enough I bought a Syd Barrett doco dvd in the weekend and just watched it the other day. He was musically something special and his mental decline was tragic.

"Piper at the Gates of Dawn" is also my favourite Floyd album.

R.I.P. Syd!

The life of this man is so weird. He was the pionneer of psychedelic rock and his influence is so big in music but he dies in the most complete loneliness... Really sad.

R.I.P. Roger "Syd" Barrett

theres only so many double kick drum'd songs with singers shouting the F word you can take before it becomes extremely dull.

Very sad indeed. Syd has had a huge impact on all us metalheads whether we know it or not.

And a huge impact on Voivod and Voivodfans.

Maybe Piggy, up there, can convince Syd to jam with him on a certain Pink Floyd song...

I've never been the world's biggest Floyd fan, but I certainly respect this guy's impact & influence on much of the music I love.

quote:
His former bandmates made sure Barrett continued to receive royalties from his work with Pink Floyd.

This was good to read... I was never sure what the situation was with the bandmates.

R.I.P. Syd

it's great the band took care of their mate for all these years and it's ashame to hear of his passing.

I honsetly think however that Floyd would have never became as huge and as successful if Syd had remained in the band. His departure opened the door for Waters and Gilmour to have more control and take the band into a different direction than what Syd would have probably led them into.

He left a big impression on the music world for what he did create.

Yeah, R.I.P. Syd. Big influence to lots of musicians. It was on the radio the day he died. Playing Astronomy Domine in the background. Made me think of this Canadian band who covered this song. Don't remember who they were...
