Alright, I know there are other forums for this topic, but I'll be damned (and I KNOW I will) if this hasn't been bugging me for a couple of years.

Drums. What the hell is happening on this album? First of all it shows a picture of Snowy Shaw, but I don't even think he was in the band when the album was recorded. Second, to be quite honest it sounds like a drum machine is being employed. I have to admit, I like the cold, calculating feel of the "drums" on this album.

Anyways, if anyone knows, please divulge.

Skul? Slay?

It's a drum machine on the album.

Thanks Skul. I just needed some confirmation. Is there any story behind sticking with the machine, or is it your typical King Diamond DIY mentality

I have a mag with a Dream Evil interview, in which Snowy Shaw states that "The Eye" was indeed recorded with a drum machine, but he didn't bother to go any further, like, "well, it's past stuff, man".

"Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." The old "past stuff" cop-out LOL....

What makes things even stranger is the fact Snowy Shaw is shown on the insert of Mercyful Fate's "In the Shadows", yet in fine print it states all drums on this album by Morten Nielsen (with the exception of Return of the Vamp done by Lars). OK, this would lead one to believe that Snowy was with the band during the writing process but bailed during recording.....Fine. But he shows up on their next album "Into the Unkown"!

In conclusion, "Unknown" is the only album he is officially on
