LE ROCK ALTERNATIF QUÉBÉCOIS SOUS LA LOUPE D'UN SOCIOLOGUE

Afin d'étudier les fanzines québécois, ces magazines faits par et pour les fans de rock, le Français Fabien Hein a obtenu une bourse de 5000 dollars de la Bibliothèque nationale du Québec. Ce docteur en sociologie de l'Université de Metz en France a auparavant signé un ouvrage sur le heavy metal.

Particulier au Québec
« Les fanzines québécois ont quelque chose de particulier, qu'on ne trouve pas en France ou très peu, affirme Fabien Hein. On les retrouve de manière totalement gratuite chez les disquaires, vous les trouvez lors des concerts. » Ces revues spécialisés présentent des entrevues et des commentaires sur des disques de métal progressif, post-rock et heavy metal. Il a déjà pu en éplucher environ un millier d'exemplaires, dont le premier date de 1972.

Fan de Voivod
Adolescent dans sa Lorraine natale, Fabien Hein a découvert le groupe Voivod, originaire de Jonquière. « Il est complètement mésestimé, complètement ignoré. C'est vraiment un groupe culte dans le monde pour beaucoup de gens. »

Fabien Hein poursuivra son séjour au Québec puisqu'il a également reçu une bourse post-doctorale de l'Université Laval afin de poursuivre des recherches sur le lien entre le rock et la littérature.

Wow! So not only did a scientist get given a research award for watching a gay necrophiliac duck, now one can get a grant to study metal? Sounds like quite a good job to me.
