Opeth, Mastodon & Ghost this Sunday. It's gonna be killer. First gig I've been to with all me old band mates in quite some time. * I don't know about Ghost.... Everywhere I go I see Ghost shirts and I seen them live but it didn't move me at all. Maybe I miss the point here?? * Voivod and Fear Factory July 11th * Cool stuff. * Iron FUCKING Maiden July 27th. Taking my 7 year old and 11 year old to their first Metal show. * Cool, I did take my 14 year old son to KISS first and then Iron Maiden. He is a big fan now. I am so happy I could cry. My best friend who also is into hardrock has a son that is loving Eminem etc. What a drag that would be... * -------------------- trrrrr ta trrrrr ta trrrrr ta trrrrr ta trrrrr ta trrrrr trrrrr ta trrrrr ta trrrrr ta trrrrr ta trrrrr ta trrrrr

Opeth recently, with Mastodon. Ghost opened and sucked. I say no more. Mastodon was next and rocked. Well, that's what they do: mastodonrocks. That pretty much tells the story. Opeth was in a semi-acoustic mode this time. Mostly last album with some older acoustic songs like last show, but unlike it they also played The Grand Conjuration for a very welcome variety. Akerfeldt was at his worst with silly jokes this time. Highlight of the show: "We love our music, we put out an album and we go on tour and play it. Unlike some *cough* other bands, who put out an album and then go on tour and play a complete old album." Then he went on to say "I just signed the papers and I now own this country Canada", "What are you guys famous for anyway? Celine Dion and, godforbid, Rush?" Made me think he doesn't love Voivod any more. Boo. But who cares about his jokes. Music was good and that's what matters.-------------------- Casper, your friendly ghost

What can I say? We drive up behind the venue around the time they should already be on stage and Reed is back there smoking with somebody (go figure ). My gf yells something unintelligible to him as we drive by and he gives her a strange look. I would too! We finally park and he's still outside so we walk up and he suddenly realizes he knows/knew her from the late 80's till he left the band. Some dude runs out and says "FIVE!" and runs off with Reed in tow, saying "Glad you guys came, you're in for something special". I immediately had to shield my inner-pant growth after this comment as we made our way to the entrance. Surprising to only see about a 1/3 capacity crowd. Oh well, more room for me LOL. They didn't promote the show very well, fucking venue. I think half of those people were there just to see Torche, too. And maybe Black Cobra...So 16.65% for both bands. Or maybe 23.8 and 9.5 respectively, I don't fucking know, but it would be lower if all the Black Cobra fans left before Torche. Anyways, I digress... Barely enough time to grab a water and find a place stage right that all the guys come out to tech their own shit. Talk about DIY! I'll get back to this later as it is merely just a foreshadowing of something to come. A little feedback and then the band starts out in a slow, droney manner as Woody figures out where his fingers and strings are (just kidding dude, that's just the way it looks haha ). Then wham... WHAM! George Michael walks on stage and they beat him to fucking death with their instruments, upstaging anything Pete Townshend coulda ever dreamt of, and at the BEGINNING of the show no-less. I was very amused. The encore consisted of one hour of solid fucking SOUND and riffage that I was not humanly properly equipped for. And these guys appeared as if they were screwing around, so lax it was liquid. Fluidity at it's finest! Here's a not-so-official setlist: Bottom Feeder (El que come abajo) Psychic Vampire Mad World Your Tomorrow (with "Seven Days" opening riff intro) The Doom (preceded by 'Hand of Doom') Vote With a Bullet The Moneychangers Deliverance Rat City Technocracy ...Well let's just say the thing going on in in my pants got MESSY! They fucked my world. And not like I didn't already know anything about them, I've kept up with them for the past 12 years, but they just tore the lid off that place and took no prisoners. Woody's gear box had a Killing Technology sticker on it dating back to the BC, that made me smile periodically...Well actually a lot, I was obsessed with it thru-out the set haha, knowing that Voivod would be at this very venue in less than a month So it's time to tear down and of course all the guys do their own stuff (well somebody is helping Reed, a drum kit is a little more cumbersome I reckon), and drunk losers are yelling for autographs and shit. Some idiot even asked me what Woody's name was, and I told him "Zed", so he started yelling "HEY Zed, come here!" It was fucking funny and totally weak at the same time. Woody "Zed" didn't give him the time of day and he was eventually escorted out of the premises. Load out is complete and Mike sees us and we tell him how awesome the show was, and he says come on back to hang. He warns us of people smoking weed and cooking bacon on a hotplate in the studio next to theirs (the venue operates as a live performance/practice space area) and we hop-skip-jump there only to find neither Small area but not so many people, we gravitate towards Woody and shower him with the adulations I'm sure by now he is tired of but at the same time is well DESERVED as he is a fucking punk/crunch/doom/metal lord on guitar. He brushes it off politely of course and we are able to talk to him for a good 15 minutes about everything under the sun, but the highlights would include: -They played Sonisphere with Metallica and didn't have any crew with them, fucking CRAZY. He joked about everybody has techs and assistants ball wipers. Not these boys! -Playing last year in European fests with Down a couple times and Pepper jumping on stage. A new guy from Queensryche was there and asked if Pepper was still in the band and he said "Yes, I see us doing stuff with him in the future". launch time for my second boner of the night! -Somehow the conversation about Down morphed into Crowbar, and then that morphed into Prong, which he said they are playing 3 closing shows of the tour with. DON'T MISS THIS, I wish fucking PRONG was at this one!! -And finally, they aren't anywhere near stopping. Despite the age factor of 47 I think this is their form of exercise and keeping in shape. They have the fucking chops, and as bad as I would like Pep to be there, this is a different beast, and EVERYBODY should get a piece. --THE END-- How's that, Dave? --------------------

newclear infusion OMFG!!!! Awesome fucking review!!!!!!!!! I laughed, I cheered, and I could almost feel the music and get a ringing in my ears!!!I'd subscribe to more music magazines if there were reviews and articles written this well!!! Gotta say I got excited about hearing Pepper still being part of COC. I love the new album. Definitely rawer (is that even a fucking word? "rawer"? of well, I'm using it) than anything they've done, but Pep adds the groove. I'll gladly take a Peperless COC than NO COC any day since with or without Keenan they crush most any other band out there. Thanks for review -------------------- yawn
