I finally watched it last night (renting, btw) and 4 things came to mind:

1. Lars needs to be canned and/or shot.
2. James is a pussy.
3. Kirk is a fag.
4. Robert is a neanderthal.

Not really. If they were gay, that would at least be respectable. But they aren't. They're just egotistical, washed up shitheads.

Definitly an interesting film, whatever your feelings about Metallica are.

One thing I was kinda suprised about was all the Spinal Tap similarities... Holy crap! It's a good thing Trujillo came in and broke this dynamic up!

James Hatefield = David St. Hubbins
Lars Ulrich = Nigel Tufnel
these two could be interchangable, depending on your point of view)
and Kirk Hammet = Derik Smalls (without a doubt, only less so!) Hard to believe this guy was ever in Exodus.

Seriously though, how would any of you guys be after 20 years of people kissing your ass? Just wonderin'...

A good watch.

great comments X-D

It is a great documentary no matter what you think about the band, and the extras are equally entertaining and insightfull

I'm glad I bought it.

I didn't even think it was a very good film, stupidly went to see it at the cinema, it was dull! They cut out the bit where Mustaine reduces Lars to tears. (allegedly) I think we all would have liked to see that.
Lars' dad seemed cool though. How the fuck did Lars grow up to be such a twat.

Man, if I was in this band I would have done exactly the same thing. Sellout in a second. I can imagine it was a huge joke with them...as they all seem to have a pretty good sense of humor. I mean you get to a certain age and its like screw this...I need to start making money for retirement. Guess I'm getting older as I would have never said that a couple of years ago.

But I know for a fact I would have NEVER picked a Bob Seger song to cover thats for fuck sure!!!!

that documentary serves to show nothing except that they never really were street to begin with.
well for that fraction of a time before cliff departed mabye.

why could'nt they just keep that 'tough guy' attitude ? like Lemmy... hes still cool!
if i would have watched this docu back in the 80's or the 90's i would have been embarrassed.

Did I mention that Lars needed to be "canned?" He'd RUIN potentially good-sounding tunes just by "sitting" behind the kit without having to lift a finger!

..and was Kirk riding horseback with some dude? I always thought Kirk was overly sensitive anyway!

At least the name Voivod is mentioned a few times. The best 10 seconds of both the DVDs!!

What the hell is wrong with Dave Mustaine's head also?!?! Has he never considered that his band is better than Metallica? Man, I'd play Rust in Peace before I play anything post Black Album.

I'll second both of those comments. I've always loved Megadeth more than Metallica, but I can see where Mustaine feels like he's been given the short end of the deal. He's never sold as many records, he's always thought he was one step behind Metallica. It's ashame he feels that way, since I think he's had more musical integrity through out most of the years than Metallica has had. Besides, how long does he really think he would have lasted with Jamez and Larz even if he did sober up? There would have been 3 egos wanting control, and that's never a good thing in a band.

Finally got around to seeing this. Best quote of the movie - Lars: "Jason is the future, Metallica is the past".
Laugh? I nearly shat!
