I'll see you folks next week coz tomorrow I'm off to Sin City! Woohoo!
Too bad there's no decent shows going on while I'm there.
If any of you happen to be in Vegas this weekend, just look for the drunken guy in the Metal shirt pumping money into the slots at the Excalibur.

Latre!

Cool! Have a great time and when you hit the jackpot.....drinks are on you!

You've picked a good time to go though - NOT in the summer. I went for my birthday once in July and I thought I would die - at 11pm at night. I hate the fucking heat

Good Luck!!!

I'm quite sure I've read somewhere on the net that Richard Marx would be doing an one-off gig there, maybe you should look out for it!

Enjoy your trip, Nuc!

I've been to Vegas 4 times but I don't care much about gambling. It's fun until you notice you're getting out of money...
BTW, I only saw one show there: LA-based Society 1. The guys had porn stars Tiffany Mynx, Shanna McCullough and Kaylynn to do some exotic dancing on stage while they played! Now that's Vegas...

Have a good trip NucV and whatever you do DON'T give the dinosaurs any alcohol.

Don't Penn and Teller still do shows? That might be interesting.
Oh yeah and remember to occasionally shoot the finger to the cameras under the tables.

Hey kids! I'm back - did ya miss me?

Vegas ruled (as it always does). It was Spring Break AND March Madness this weekend so the place was PACKED! 30 celcius and sunny all the time, and the ladies... Let's just say my wife caught my eyes wandering on more than a few occasions. My only bitch would be that I didn't drink enough (even though it was free) and all that walking around (you do lots of that in Vegas coz there's so much to see) was a bit tiring. Also, the sheer amount of gangsta-lookin' "playa's" with all their NBA gear, MTV styled ebonics and bling-bling made me rather sick. I fuckin hate rap/hip-hop whatever you want to call it. Problem is, it's EVERYWHERE down there.

If you've never been then GO! Sure, the very existance of the place is based on greed, cheating, hucksters and everything and everyone is FAKE, but I love it. Not for those reasons. I really don't know why I love it, it just plain rules.

Next time we leave the parents behind.

Vegas is so much fun. I have to restrict myself to just one visit a year. Crossing my fingers that the NHL doesn't have a lockout next season so I can continue my recent tradition of attending the Kings/Avs preseason game at the MGM Grand. Not that it'll stop me from going, I'll just have to see Cirque du Soleil or something instead...

Yes, it is hard to beat Vegas! So has anyone ever been to Cheetahs before? (Heh, heh!) I wonder how Nuclear Vampire liked staying at the Excalibur? Hey, this reminds me, Nuke, did you checkout that new Star Trek thrill ride - The Borg Invasion in 4D - over at the Hilton? Wow, checkout the following link:

Star Trek The Experience

Oh yes, so did you get lucky down there Nuke? What games or slots did you play? Did you play any of them Wheel of Fortune slots? My crazy postal worker friend's girlfriend has unbelievable luck! Heck, she even won a couple hundred dollars on a Wheel of Fortune quarter machine while we were waiting for our plane at the airport! As for me, I'd be lucky to leave Las Vegas with just the shirt on my back! So I have developed a good strategy - I just drink! Oh yes, over at Ceasar's Palace - if I remember correctly - there is this restraunt where one can order 5 or even 10 litre mugs of beer! Mmm!!! Well, I distinctly remember that there is a restraunt which serves these large glasses somewhere in Vegas!

I don't know if I should admit this but right now I'm making tentative plans to journey down to Reno for the weekend of June 26, 27 when the Eldorado Hotel will be hosting the 9'th Annual Great Eldorado BBQ, Blues & Brews Festival!

Vegas is my Shangri-La. Sin City, The Flower of the Desert used to seduce & draw me in at least 3 times a year, until I moved too far away to make it in an afternoon. Actually, it been even longer than that since I've gone - sadly, I have not been there in like 10 years and my hankering has begun to consume me. Although, after reading the above description, I'm afraid the place has probably lost most of what remained of its old-school charm. Old Vegas is disappearing chunk by massive chunk; When they blew up the Dunes/ Oasis, part of my heart was torn away for all time. And FYI, I really wish they had at least left downtown the fuck alone. If I walk up to the Roulette table at Binion's Horseshoe and have to put up with a bunch of "Bling-Blingity" bullshit, I shall surely SNAP.

If you want all info imaginable on 'Old Vegas', this is the place for you:

So Meg - what do you do, research all the things I love and then throw your own love for them in my face, practically forcing me to propose to you once again? Seriously, let's find out: When you go to these Kings/ Avs games, which team are you rooting for? If it's the Kings, we shall elope tomorrow.

I agree with you on the sad loss of old Vegas Tang. We went down to Freemont and the Pioneer looks like shit. Half of the lightbulbs were burnt out and the crowd there was pretty trashy even by Vegas standards. The Golden Nugget hasn't changed and the Plaza is nice. My favorite part is the area near Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd. All around Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, Luxor, NY NY and MGM. It just feels more comfortable and casual there.

We went to the first Start Trek experience back in '98. Not bad. Cool shops. We went this time to catch the Borg show, but if we had gone on the ride we would have been late picking up the ladies from the outlet mall so we just checked out the shops and casino there for awhile. Maybe next time.

And yes El Indio, I did get lucky down there. Not on the slots though.

The slots I liked were the Monoploy ones. Fun way to waste your money. I'm no high roller by any means - I stuck to the penny and nickel slots.

Shit I just realized how much I typed. I could go on about Vegas for days!

Ah, the Monopoly slots rule! I had incredible luck on those last year (by my modest standards, hehe). So many different bonus plays, I loved those.

Sadly (or perhaps fortunately?), Tangento, I root for the Avs in those games. Although the Kings are one of my favorite teams, the Avs are #1 in my book. The Kings always win though. Last year Peter Forsberg got in a fight! First and to date only fight of his professional career. What a goon.

I know what you mean, Nuc. It's plenty of crack dealers and burglars around Freemont. Once I was leaving that car racing-themed bar and about 5 guys came up to me asking for money and trying to sell drugs.
Those low lifers are fun to watch in the movies, but in real life? I pass...

I've been to Lost Wages once, back in 2000. Stayed at the MGM Grand and caught Penn and Teller's act there during the week. Ended up coming home with $3000 in hundred dollar bills in my wallet.

I think that the main thing whioch really bothered me a few months ago when I was last there were all of them young "card flapping" kids and people who literally lined up on the sidewalk and attempt to hand out cards to people as they walk buy. The first time was kind of a novelty but after a few hundred times, it became, at least for me, about as annoying as them Vancouver squeegy kids! The card flappers have this very annoying routine whereas they will flick the card with their thumb or forefinger - the noise is supposed to gain your attention - and then attempt to hand it to you. After a while I just completely ignored everyone and just kept on walking... We stayed at the new Aladdin which is a real nice hotel and our room overlooked the strip between the Bellagio and down south towards the MGM. It was real cool to wakeup in the morning and look outside and see KISS performing on the MGM's gigantic trinitron screen or whatever the heck it is called. Pretty cool!

Oh no, not the Divealanche! Forsberg has serious skills, but unfortunately one of them is the all-out drama-dive. Makes me sick to watch. I hate the frickin team, but I won't hold it against you.

Ever seen this site? http://www.divealanche.com/

Even though you are a fan, you should get a few laughs. Like this one:

quote:
To witness Forsberg in action is to behold the very art and essence of the dive. The glancing touch of an opposing player's arm can catapult him headfirst across the ice as if he'd been hit by a Mack truck. The gentle brush of an opponent's glove can launch Forsberg eight feet through the air as if a landmine that only Peter can feel has exploded somewhere beneath his skates. The slightest tap of an enemy stick can spark a catastrophic, somersaulting yard sale, igniting a chorus of boos and sobs of indignation from the Avsmonkey audience.

(I'm just bitter because my Kings are in the midst of choking away a hard-fought, tooth & nail, injury-riddled season's playoff spot in the final stretch)

*Sigh*

The bitterness of fans of the other 29 NHL teams (who, deep down, would sell their souls to have Forsberg) never ceases to amaze me.

I have two words for you, Tangento: Rob Blake. (ah, I can hear the booing now...)

Hey, you're a Dodger fan too right? Have you seen this site? Dodger Blues
I was raised to hate the Dodgers with a passion but have gradually come over to the dark side due to my far more passionate dislike of the Giants. This site is endlessly entertaining!

Umm... To tell an honest truth, I'm not exactly sure what the builders of The Bellagio wanted to accomplish. For me it is kind of a collage of... Oh heck, maybe you would like to checkout the following link and find out for yourself...

The Bellagio

All I can really say is that the casino part is HUGE and the pool featured a large assortment of beautiful ladies wearing skimpy bathing suits! Mmm!!!

The Bellagio is nice. The butterfly enclosure in the garden is very cool. The water show rules.

Didn't take too many pics, but here's a few that actually turned out okay:

This is in our hotel. We stayed at Excalibur this time. The casino there is lots of fun.

Here's the view looking north up The Strip from the walkway between New York New York and the MGM Grand. We love this area of The Strip.

This is part of the outside of New York New York. There's a roller coaster that runs through the "skyline" of the "city". I was too chickenshit to ride it. :-/

This is a replica of the Statue Of Liberty outside the NY NY hotel. It looks fucking awesome. I think it's like 1/10 the size of the real one.

This is the replica of the eiffel tower outside of the Paris hotel. I believe it is 1/3 the size of the real one. There's a restaurant at the top.

It was 30 celcius everyday we were there so of course lots of cold bevvies had to be taken in. This is a margarita from the outdoor cafe at the foot of the eiffel tower. Sure packed a punch! Great place to relax, drink and people watch.

After a long days drinkin' and walkin' (we did lots of that) it was time to head back to the Excalibur to play some slots and...drink some more!

We took more but some turned out shitty. I need a new fucking camera

Great pics! Last October I met my brothers and sister in Vegas. We stayed at the Luxor, in the Pyramid. Our window looked out over the back of the Sphinx. Luxor, Excalibur and all those casinos are linked together, so we spent a lot of time in there to avoid actually going outside into the heat as much as possible! (We didn't ride the roller coaster either...)

I of course, did not take my camera with me so I have zero pics. ...guess we'll just have to do it all over again this year!

Damn Nuc, now you've got me planning! In advance, even!

Wow, pretty cool pics there Nuclear Vampire! Believe it or not but that one pic of yours shows the window of the room in the Alladin which I stayed in back in late October. We stayed in the room which was about one floor up and about three rooms over to the right from that left wing of the Alladin in the picture which is kind of pointing north west. (Look straight up about 3/4 inch from that car in the forefront of the picture.) I could see the roof of that small wing from our window. Wow, what an amazing view!

Hi Madmeg, could it be possible that our paths crossed last October? I was in town for one of them KISS/Aerosmith concerts. Oh yes Madmeg, do you ever checkout any Seattle Mariners games? I will probably be at the Mariners vs. Texas game on June 29... So Nuclear Vampire, did you attend one of them jousting dinner matches at the Excalibur?

Thanks for the links and for the pictures, I was wrong, I think it should be a coincidence that it has the same name.

Some years ago I spoke with the owner of the website of Bellagio, a small village in the middle of the lake of Como (4 or 5 Km from where I live), and He said that in America they builded a copy of that village so I thought it was the one of the El Indio post.

If anyone know near Bellagio there is the place were in Star Wars episode 2 they filmed that scene on the lake...
