A few shows I LOVED in 2003:
VOIVOD @ the Sunshine Theatre
American Music Club @ Cafe du Nord
The Haunted @ El Launchpad
Behemoth
Divine Empire
Deicide
Mastodon, oh, I think that was in 2002.
And others, I can't remember them at the moment.

Yes, the new Enslaved definitely.

If you must hear one great metal tune in your life, buy it, place disc in your player, turn volume to 10, and experience track 1: As Fire Swept the Earth.

Surprisingly enough, nobody here has mentioned the new Ephel Duath album PAINTER's PALETTE. Nobody else comes close to their sound in metal today. IMO, they are the truest fusion of jazz and metal EVER. Atheist and Cynic only hinted at what ED fully achieved with this great work of art.

I will say that I was lucky enough to hear a new band last Monday night whose uncomprimising talent will hopefully make a mark on the metal world soon. Cthon and I are good friends with their drummer(who tore apart his snare and kickpedal during the performance-the guy hits HARD). Name of the band is Man At Arms. I think NucVamp would get off on these guys.

Note to Cthong: Guyana Punchline, one of your favs??? Sir, this was either an evil joke or you were extremely high. Please tell me you were kidding. Those guys are the letter s in the word SUCK.

ENSLAVED-BELOW THE LIGHTS
Definitely. I didn't buy any other new cds this past year, although I was given a shit ton of burned cds of bands I'd never heard before. I can't get enough of Below the Lights!

i liked this band, i d/l a few tracks earlier this year, they have a good sound but instead of being all mixed into one giant sound scheme, they have parts that are metal then their songs go into jazz style at different times. kind of UNlike VoiVod, {where all that is there during the whole song/s}
they are good and different so i like it. \m/

SLAYER - War At The Warfield.

Self explanatory.

"Forty-five moments of perfection translated through a cautionary escape into the perils of the mundane, the inherent entropy in ultimate order, and the potential threats of eternal, unchecked apathy in civilization; all cloaked in musical expression so thoughtful, creative and forward thinking that almost a quarter-century later, few can even comprehend it, much less match it." I only bought maybe 4 or 5 new releases in 2003, so the best for me was "discovering" this board and all you crazy guys! Without which I would have never heard of 3/4 of the bands you have all named in this very thread. My life will never be the same (I hope). Happy New Year!
