Its funny to think about some of these crazy songs like "These boots" or "In the mood" which have been covered! Who says alot of heavy metaloids do not have a sense of humor?

Targento, "the damned" is indeed the plasmatics tune and it's on the Mad Butcher EP... and here it is:

Destruction - The Damned (Plasmatics)

Now, the best covers that comes to mind for me...without citing the obvious ones, like the Voivod ones. I dont like covers as much as i used to since they're so common now, but here are a few that actually enhance the original song, or are just that good.

Wrathchild America - Time (Pink Floyd, on "Climbing The Walls")

Helloween - He's a Woman / She's a Man (Scorpions... on "Metal Jukebox")

Overkill - Changes (Black Sabbath... on "Coverkill")

No Use For a Name - Redemption Song (Bob Marley... on "Leche Con Carne")

Anthrax - The Cowboy Song (Thin Lizzy... on some EP i cant remember which)

Emperor - A Fine Day To Die (Bathory... on the Century Media reissue of "In The Nightside Eclipse", and previously on "In Conspiracy With Satan", a Bathory tribute album)

Johnny Cash - Hurt (NIN.. very moving, i think)

Exhorder - Into The Void (Black Sabbath... on "The Law"... also on some bullshit compilation called Masters of Misery or something like that)

That's about it.

Oh yah, Eddy... Holiday in Cambodia covered by Voivod was on a few Iron Gang live tapes back in the 80's (they closed the set with it on the Dimension Hatross tour), but i dont think there's proper studio-recorded version of it...

Dude, Thanks!
Pretty killer version, but Wendy O.'s intensity will never be matched.
Anyone remember the insane 'exploding school bus' video for this?

Thanks for the info, Skulhed. Is it any difficult to find live recordings of this track? I love that song and I can only imagine how it turned out in the Voïvod's version!!!

I didn't know that Anthrax have covered Thin Lizzy's "Cowboy Song". I like every tune out of "Jailbreak" - that album is a true classic!
The Supersuckers did a decent acoustic version of "Cowboy Song" in their "Must've Been Live" CD.

Hey Gorf, can you please tell me who did the original Mexican radio?

A few of my favourites:

Voivod - Nile song, Astronomy domine, 21st century...
Yonderboi - Riders on the storm/Pink solidism (from Doors)
Laibach - God is god

There is an Alternative Tentacle album with DK covers, a lot of them are brilliant, unfortunately i lost my copy...

this is what I can think of right now...
Voïvod - Holiday in Cambodia (live cover)
Voïvod - In the Flat Field (live cover)
Coroner - Purple Haze
Celtic Frost - Mexican Radio
Skyclad - Sabre Dance
Misanthrope - Forever "Shattered" Failure
Obituary - Circle of the Tyrants
Emperor - A Fine Day to Die
Evereve - Fade to Grey
Slayer - Dissident Aggressor
Anthrax - Antisocial

Venom also covered "Hell Bent for Leather", re-named for the occasion "Hell Bent for Metal"... this was in Birmingham during the Possessed UK tour in october 85... cool, even though it's definitely not "the best cover"!

Didn't Flotsam do "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting"? Think it may have been after Newsted left though. And it definately wasn't something I'd have in the 'best cover' category. So I'll just shuddap.

Do i need to remind everyone about this 1970's Covers Album?

HANGNAIL - Bron-yr-stomp (Led Zepplin)

Our very own Harry (H) former band did that really cool cover.
There are also some other gems on that 2-CD set.

Here is the Website for the CD. Check out the other Tracks:
