Here it is:
Probably my favorite song of all time.

This is a band which I saw 16 times between the years 1979 and 1985.

At least 5 of those shows were on a bill with the above-mentioned Pat Travers Band.
(these 2 bands complemented each other perfectly)

This fascinating song's lyrics deal with the *Michael Moorcock-penned Elric novels,
and were co-written by Moorcock himself.

The Band is

Blue Öyster Cult

and the Song is:

Black Blade
(file removed - email me if ya want it)

From:

Cultosaurus Erectus
(click to read/ buy)

This was released in 1980, and is one of the premier examples of how
metal and progressive rock music should be properly merged.

For the hell of it, here are the insanely cool lyrics:

================================

Black Blade
(-E. Bloom -M. Moorcock -J. Trivers)

I have this feeling that my luck is none too good
This sword here at my side don't act the way it should
Keeps calling me its master, but I feel like its slave
Hauling me faster and faster to an early, early grave
And it howls, it howls like hell

I'm told it's my duty to fight against the law
That wizardry's my trade and I was born to wade through gore
I just want to be a lover, not a red-eyed screaming ghoul
I wish it'd picked another to be its killing tool

Black blade! Black blade!
Forged a billion years ago
Black blade! Black blade!
Killing so its power can grow

There's death from the beginning to the end of time
And I'm the cosmic champion and I hold a mystic sign
And the whole world's dying and the burdens mine
And the black sword keeps on killing 'til the end of time

Black blade! Black blade!
Bringing chaos to the world we know
Black blade! Black blade!
And its using me to kill my friends
Black blade! Black blade!
Getting stronger so the world will end
Black blade! Black blade!
Forcing my mind to bend and bend

The black blade
Forged a million billion years ago
My cosmic sword goes on for eternity
Carving out destiny
Bringing in the lords of chaos
Bringing up the beasts of Hades
Sucking out the souls of heroes
Laying waste to knights and ladies
My master is my slave
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

================================

That last bit, with drummer Albert Bouchard
on the vocorder is ~The Stuff of Legends~

*if you look at the bottom of that Moorcock page where the links are,
you will see an 'interesting' word there...
::cough:: Multiverse ::cough::

Awesome lyrics, yeah; I love the Elric saga!
I'm not sure whether Moorcock actually invented the 'Multiverse' concept, but he was one of the first to use it in SF/fantasy...

The Pat Travers tune is a killer!

Ok, diversion:

From the french band Trust, mostly known for 'Antisocial' (covered by Anthrax)
Trust - Prefabriqués
[file removed, e-mail me if you want it]

It's the first track of their first record, 1979.
Nono on guitars, Bernie on vocals - oh it's in french (there was also an 'english' version, good for a laugh but the original is much better...)

Lyrics

Later they played with Nicko McBrain, then with Clive Burr!
(there's a photo of the band on an album, all wearing Pat Travers T-shirts...)

http://fantrust.ifrance.com/fantrust
http://www.trust.ht.st
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/hard-rockcity/disctrus.htm

And, from Mr Eddy's Agrotóxico - site oficial

Agrotóxico - Estado de Guerra Civil (2002) - À Beira do Caos

(Check the discography section, there's a lot more killer tunes for download..)

Brasilian Punk rules or what?!

Thanks, Neutrino!
Nice to see some participation here.

I like the hardcore tune a bit better, but the Trust has a certain nostalgia to it.

Very cool, man

Ok, last chance for Black Blade.

I am somewhat surprised at the lack of responses on this one.
After 23 years of listening to this, it still blows my mind.

Anyway, I am uploading 2 new tracks for July as I write this,
so get BB if you haven't already.

~This month, more Progressive Intensity~

We now venture back into the odd realms of 'Dave Kerman-Ville'
(remember: 5uu's)

...for another Rock In Opposition classic.

Thinking Plague

is a heavily experimental band that 5uu's percussionist
Dave Kerman hooked up with in 1998.

Together, they unleashed the brilliant album:

In Extremis

(Click for reviews)

This particular track is an obvious nod to the distinct style of mid-era YES
~ With a dash of syncopated Gentle Giant insanity
- but creates entirely new boundaries, in my opinion.
Decide for yourself, Prog-Freaks:

This Weird Wind
(file removed)

This one is fucking DEEP, my friends.

To purchase this and other selected titles from
Thinking Plague, 5uu's and Dave Kerman...

Visit:

There is another track on the way, with a much more Neanderthal appeal...

Stay tuned

(Black Blade will be up 'till tomorrow PM)

P.S. to Mezcalhead
I have not forgotten you, buddy boy...
this track will be included on the upcoming PMS 3 disc,
which will be in your mailbox in a few weeks.

OK everyone SETTLE down
</sarcasm>

Here is the promised track, geared toward the Metalheads with a hankering for
relentless mechanized Pounding and Jackhammer guitar riffs, ala Ministry, Die Krupps, etc.

From:

NIHIL (1995)

KMFDM - FLESH
(file removed)

Till next time...

FUCK YEA!!! I went to their tour for that album back in 1995...only KMFDM show I ever saw but I heard it was one of their best tours. Bill Rieflin (drums) wasn't on the tour, though. Dorona Alberti was, though, man is she HOT!

NIHIL was one of their more creative releases. It's also the last release En Esch was totally involved with. His participation waned with every release until he finally left the band. Now he has his own group SLICK IDIOT (click), with KMFDM's ex-guitarist Guenter Schultz. He (Schultz) always reminded me of Piggy for some reason. Pretty cool stuff.

Absolutley one of my favorites too (the band and the album). And yes, "Real Love" does make you wanna cry. And I'm going to mention again the Victims Family!! These guys are on the same level as NOMEANSNO and are playing a show with Alice Donut @ CBGB's on August 8th - if you have a chance, be there!!!!

That Thinking Plague song...wow! I begun to wonder what it would sound like if VV played it - with Blacky on the keyboards....hehe!

I keep repeating myself, but THANK YOU again mr. T!

That would be something to hear, Väi.
And I think Voivod are one of the few bands around that could actually pull it off!

OK, for this month's first selection, we move into more familiar territory:

Straight up relentless Early '90s thrashin' fucking MAYHEM

There will be no mental preparations necessary this time around;
just perform your favorite preventitive Whiplash stretching excersises.

Demolition Hammer - Omnivore (HVBR mp3)

From:

Epidemic of Violence (1991)
(extremely rare, but click and ye shall find)

And... oh yeah:

X-Legged Sally -01- Eddies
X-Legged Sally -02- Dum Dum
X-Legged Sally -09- Mysterious Angelic Voices

(i had a hard time making a selection... picked the first two tracks of Killed By Charity, it's a good start)

Very interesting stuff there, Neut.
Has a definite Zorn/ Bungle/ Estradasphere vibe.
Will be digging into this, thanks!

with all those Zappa freaks around here!

I don't know much of what Peter Vermeersch (voc, clarinet) and Pierre Vervloesem (gtr) have done since...
Vervloesem's "Home Made" solo album is real good; Vermeersch was doing stuff with contemporary music formations (Ictus, ?) and film music, I haven't heard anything but it's probably worth checking out
Guidon, do you know of their other projects?

Both continued and formed some kind of weird big-band project called Flat Earth Society. And they also did some solo-albums but I only heard some stuff on national radio.

Okay fuckers...
Did anyone other than Guidon and Neutrino get that Demolition Hammer track or what!?
I thought all you old-schoolers (like Warcorpse) would dig that raging bastard, and that it would possibly even cause an upheaval or melee of mass-havoc proportions.

Anyway, I have enough room to leave it up for awhile...

BUTT: Now it is time for some Fresh Meat

=========================

(direct from my Downloads/ Pick of the Month)

First up we have a rollicking, merchanized thrasher from
German electronic/ industrial pioneers Die Krupps
This is a somewhat rare remix of the brutal and innovative...

Bloodsuckers (HVBR MP3)

Anyone who liked that last KMFDM should be more than pleased with this bad boy.

Click to buy and
support my site!

Next up is a brilliant, cosmic and mesmerizing hunk of
Progressive Majesty from former Steve Hackett keyboard whiz

Nick Magnus

The track is an edit of a much longer piece entitled:

Inhaling Green (HVBR MP3)*

This particular version is an exclusive re-configuration of some select movements,
courtesy of my partner in crime and Eartopsy** mastermind Frank 'the Bad Mood Guy'

To purchase Nick's amazing album, click the cover below.

Always remember to listen to these on your good stereo if at all possible,
and let me hear your thoughts on this stuff!

*Inhaling some 'Green' would be more than appropriate before experiencing this track...

**This is the name of my new band, guys and gals.
Look for some seriously twisted and brutally mindfucked music from us very soon.

Aaaaahhh, Tangento!
I'm gonna be ruined!

Bloodsuckers whith Die Krupps is a really good track.
.....Nick Magnus. Excellent! Heavenly almost hypnotic.

Lets see here, if I buy that one next month....but? Yeah.....Access to money is a limit, has always been since I was left alone with three kids (ohhhhh pooooor me).

Now seriously I really like that track with Nick Magnus, and I will buy the album.
I saw that you had "KLAATU" earlier in this thread. I have two albums with them and the story about "the lighthouse keeper" on HOPE
are really great music and lyrics.

Cheers!
