Last month, a worldwide survey was conducted by the UN.
The only question asked was: "Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?"

The survey was a huge failure...

- In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant.
- In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant.
- In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.
- In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.
- In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.
- In South America they didn't know what "please" meant.
- And in the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.

Did you know that the UN's annual budget is 1.5 billion dollars? To put that into perspective, Americans spend 8 billion dollars a year on cosmetics. That's according to NOREENA HERTZ, Author of "The Silent Takeover: Global Capitalism and the Death of Democracy" who was on the Charlie Rose show yesterday (managed to fit that in after The Bachelorette, ha). Has anyone here read that yet?
quote:
Named one of the best books of the year by The Sunday Times of London, and already a bestseller in England, Noreena Hertz's The Silent Takeover explains how corporations in the age of globalization are changing our lives, our society, and our future — and are threatening the very basis of our democracy. . .

The Silent Takeover asks us to recognize the growing contradictions of a world divided between haves and have-nots, of gated communities next to ghettos, of extreme poverty and unbelievable riches. In the face of these unacceptable extremes, Noreena Hertz outlines a new agenda to revitalize politics and renew democracy.

Sure we know what please means. It's that word people ask before we answer:

"Uh... NO!!!"

The rich get richer while the poor get poorer (or is it more poor)?
Pretty soon there will be a new word in the lexicon:

Fourth World Country
