Paul and Angelrat's discussion over Aardshock got me thinking about metal mags. Which ones do you guys read? The only one I'll pay money for is Metal Maniacs and occasionally the Pit. I've seen Terrorizer that they mentioned but that's expensive over here too. Also, what about metal websites? I generally go to the Blistering, BraveWords, BNR, and DigitalMetal.coms. Occasionally Metal Sludge for a laugh. Any others worth a damn?

There are some good metal mags here, Roadie Crew and Rock Brigade (over 20 years of metal!) but they keep their best stuff for the paper editions. They both have sites online, but only with some news and a couple of mp3. Check'em out.

Where do you buy Pit at? The BooksAMillion store
in Auburn has Metal Maniacs, but I haven't seen
Pit. I used to buy Metal Maniacs several times a
year, but when I started going to Yuri's, then here,
I had about all the info I needed. The people here
are pretty knowledgable and reviews and opinions
are plentiful. I've been getting dates for gigs at
metalupdate.com (which shows the European
dates also. Shit, Europeans are lucky). Then i
find out the venue at Pollstar (thanks for that one,
Mez). BNR is the perfect reference manual.

Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles is the only Metal mag I'll buy these days. Not only for the free CD.
They have turned me on to more bands than I can shake a stick at.
I just scanned a Voivod interview (Jason) from the latest issue and sent it to warcorpse. It was a good one too, he seems very hyper.

The only mag I currently subscibe to is PROGRESSION. I had let my subscription run out for a while but after reading about the new issue beiing a cover story on Porcupine Tree and re subed and also purchased a back issue that covered the band. There are only 4 issues a year but they are PACKED and usually you get a couple cds within the year that lables create specifically for the mag.

I havent bought mags regularly since the summer of '97 or so, althought i bought a few Sang Frais and a few Terrorizer's since then. It's simply because i got the internet that summer, so all those zines quickly became obsolete.

I used to buy Metal Maniacs mostly, but stopped doing that around '94. So i switched to Terrorizer from then on. It was a little more expensive but it was higher quality and had better writing (full of that great british wit, too), and unlike Metal Maniacs, the editor and journalists didnt push their socialist views all over the articles.

Don't buy mags anymore. Used to buy Aardschok (10 years ago - they were still part of Metal Hammer) and the few special Thrash-editions.

Terrorizer is the only one I pick up. It's good to leave in the bathroom for those stubborn post-guinness shits. There's a few cd's I've picked up that I would have missed out on if it weren't for this!
