And you guys were saying he'd stay for a year. He'll only stay until Hetshit calls again..... "VoiWho???"

Jason Newsted: 'I Would Have Rejoined Metallica'

Source: Blabbermouth.net

Former Metallica and current Voivod bassist Jason Newsted would have rejoined the San Franciscan metal superstars "in a fucking heartbeat" had frontman James Hetfield invited him to contribute to Metallica's eighth studio album.

"James and I had a really good sit-down back in February this year," Newsted told Kerrang! "We hadn't seen each other in a long time, and we got to look into each other's eyes with nobody around and no cameras or managers. We hung out as friends, probably for the first time in eight years. We just sat and had lunch together and talked about family and things that people talk about in the real world. I felt pretty confident from that meeting, and I thought maybe three or four months later, he might give me a call. And that's how it would have to be — James calling me and saying, 'Jay. Come and help me with my music. Help me make my good songs great.' Then I would be there in a fucking heartbeat to help him out. I would have done it this year, but now they've waited too long and now I'm in a band that I really love."

"This [Voivod] makes me feel so alive, and I can't say that I had that feeling in the last years of Metallica," Newsted added. "I felt rather downtrodden. I had a great time in Metallica, way, way more good than bad. But we'd been together 15 years, and things happen. But it's important for people to know that you can never say never on certain things. If it comes about in some amount of time, down the road, and James says, 'Dude, you wanna go do these 12 shows with us? Do you wanna go do this song with us?' and he calls me and he asks me straight up? Fuck yeah. But it has to be the right timing. Voivod is my focus, and it's what I'm dedicated to. It could come some day, but not in the near future, because we have a master plan for Voivod."

Jason Newsted is currently producing Voivod's forthcoming album, The Multiverse, at The Plant studios in Sausalito, California. The album is scheduled for a Mar. 4, 2003 release through his own Chophouse Records label.

One would hope that Blacky would have the integrety to turn down such an offer.

Then again: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!

Also, with his re-newed love of old-school he could twat Hetfield on the head with the blower bass and get them to record Ride The Lightning II.

Well, suppose this finally ends my faith in "Jasonic". Bah. Go back to your Metallicats, if you like.

Either way, who cares? Besides, this could be a bridge for some well known bassist to REJOIN the band, huh... hummm... Browny? Am I correct?

"Browny?"....ummm....I think his name is Blinky, or something.

I saw that too.
Must say, it was a little dis-heartening.
But...Fuck it!
At least he is a killer Bass player and is inputing 100% effort into the new CD.

HAIL VOIVOD!!!

Frankly, who gives a shit? It,s no secret that the Vod might call it quits after this new record's cycle is done. Jason can then do whatever the hell he wants, if that means rejoining Metallica, fine. Who cares. He,s commited to voivod for now, and that's all that really matters.

Yeah Corpse, I agree and it seems most of us do judging from your poll. (great idea, btw!)

As well as the extra publicity and facilities Jasonic brings in, I think he's also brought a shitload of Metal Fire into VV - a couple of years ago Away was seriously talkin about jacking it all in!

Anyway, I'd much sooner have just one year of full-tilt Voivod that five years of sporadic activity.

Agreed! The buzz that's been created, since the return of snake was anounced all that time ago, has been the best thing that's happened to the metal scene in years. It doesn't matter if this is the last album or if Jason stays more than a year. The fact is we have a new Voivod record in the can, and all signs point towards it being one fucking great album. I'm looking forward to this record more than any other I can remember. Voivod lives. let's fucking celebrate!!
(sorry - been down the pub for a liquid lunch... I'm just a tiny bit anneb... ana... annebri... uhhh... pissed.).

He said that if james had called he would have re-joined tallica but it was too late now because now he is in voivod and is focused on that. So what is the problem metzahead or whatever your name is with that? You should read things in context before getting worked up.

Bobbyboy, this is what I read that caught my attention:

But it's important for people to know that you can never say never on certain things. If it comes about in some amount of time, down the road, and James says, 'Dude, you wanna go do these 12 shows with us? Do you wanna go do this song with us?' and he calls me and he asks me straight up? Fuck yeah.

That statement makes me leery of Jase's so-called "membership" with VoiVod. I think that what he's doing right now for them is fantastic. But is he a member? I don't know about that given the statement made above. I believe its more of a project for him. Nothing wrong with that either.
On a sidenote, why in the living HELL would he want to go back to a band that treated him like shit for so many years anyway. Not to mention the fact that they're making the worst excuse for metal now on the planet. That I really don't understand. So feel free to help me out here bobby.

The "whole" story makes me leery!

And why should I even give a shit, well unfortunately "anything" related to metallica these days (or for that matter the last 14 years) makes me "queezy" in the stomach. And to think that at one time I loved metallica's music when they were more underground-metal than anything else. I still get all teary-eyed when I think about it.

Sorry about that 'corpse.

What about this pic then, would it fall under "lifestyle" or "porn", or both?

I don't really care of what Jason will do. As fas as I get good music from Voivod, I honestly do not care at all. And why some people mentioned that he will kinda "betray" Voivod if he will rejoin Metallica? In my opinion, this will be his own stupidity if he will do so... Voivod can handle fine without Jason.

Something that Jason posted in the Session Diaries at Chophouse that caught my attention...

:::

I am really pleased with these sounds. I am truly moved by being in a band now that has words and songs that really mean something to me. The feeling is incredible!

:::

Take it as you want to.
I take it as a really good sign.

I read that too and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Actually, I think that was the Toaster Scramble I ate for breakfast...
Anyway, I am all for Jason being in Voivod and I think he'll stick around for many years. Unfortunately, I don't think the band will be around many more (maybe 2 or 3 more albums and that's it) but it will be a good run, and they'll go out in style.

I read the same thing KKS and I think this is what Jason missed the most when he played FOR Metallica, because now he's playing WITH Voivod and he finally feels like he's actually part os a band and not a hired hand. I'm sure Newsted was able to be more creative in Voivod than he was in Metallica, and if they do continue with another album, I'm sure it will be with all four member creating new music...unlike the dictatorship that seemed to be going on in the James&Lars band.

It's cool to hear that he is incredibly excited about VOIVOD. Did you all check out the last little video documentary? A sneak peak at what the Multiverse sounds like!!!

I saw that clip yesterday, Schroeder, and it sounds killer! When they solo Snakes voice out of the mix... freaky shit!
What kind of distribution will Chophouse have, I wonder?

Jason said the Distribution will be everywhere, but he may just be talking too much.

I do know that it will probably be available on the Chophouse first.
What a crazy time it will be for all those folks! Trying to fill all the orders, etc.
Wonder if they would hire me. I do have Shipping experience. lol!

I heard that music too, Schroeder.
They have done a good job of masking anything...till now.
Just a tiny taste of...Multiverse!
Did you notice the Lyrics on that Snake-Only Track Segment?
Listen again.
Loved it! I wonder what the rest of the Lyrics say.
