Booking Agent Slams VOIVOD Over NILE Tour Cancellation - Oct. 23, 2002

The booking agent in charge of the forthcoming NILE tour of North America has slammed VOIVOD over the group's decision to cancel their participation in the upcoming month-long trek.

VOIVOD were originally set to perform on the five-band bill alongside NILE, NAPALM DEATH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and THE BERZERKER. However, in an official statement released last week, VOIVOD officially withdrew from the tour, citing a desire to focus on the recording process for their forthcoming album, "The Multiverse", as the main reason for their decision to pull out of the trek.

Not so, according to John Finberg of First Row Talent, who claims that the actual reasons for the group's decision to back out of the tour were at least partly money-motivated.

"The official reason VOIVOD bailed on the upcoming tour, contrary to reports from 'within the camp' is that the member — whatever he is named this time [presumably referring to Jason Newsted—ed.] had an enormous star attitude and demanded everything from more money to a catering list that could feed an army, along with the 'my own bus' request," Finberg said in a written statement submitted to BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "They didn't leave to finish the record and actually the band are three weeks away from finishing their 'opus' and would certainly have been ready to tour eight weeks later, but according to the 'manager', the words from the mighty ONE was he would rather be opening for the FOO FIGHTERS. It all starts three weeks ago when a major pay increase was asked for to cover 'new things' that arose recently. Then we hear from what we are told [is] an intern that the rumors spread were inaccurate and to continue work on the tour. Post after post came back [stating that] they were off [the tour], but management swore time and time again — a lie, of course — they were on and it was an assistant and not anyone who had any authority to speak. They turned and left the package surrounded by lies. We found out about it by reading this site [BLABBERMOUTH.NET] one morning and upon a call to management were told for 30 minutes that it is a decision that came hours earlier. The NILE camp still has yet to receive a phone call or written correspondence from the ONE or anyone in the camp who feels we are owed the truth. Just setting the record straight since it has yet to be set."

Hello,

Just read the comments on Blabbermouth and I just can't figure out what the management or the band are doing exactly. This is bad for all the fans.

Before asking for a special treatment, they should release the album and see if it meets with any kind of success and if it lives to the fans' expectations. You don't play the «big star» bit before it happens.

Just because a «big name» is attached to this project or any musical project does not mean a thing. Well, to me, at least ! You need to prove yourself every night, live on stage ! That's the real deal !

Hopefully, Piggy and the gang will be able to prove just that. They just need to get back to the basics.

Stay Healthy !

Green Goblin

Well, a lot of anger can be extracted from the booking agent's words. Anger always lead to some distortion in the facts, that's why it's always better for anyone to calm down before doin' any statement. Jasonic has worked in the top of professionalism, band related, and surely would not be content with crappy conditions...

I love Blabbermouth. They're really cutting a swath through the bullshit laden music industry landscape.

FF would be a weird choice, I can't picture the majority of their fans really digging Voivod (although I like both bands). Something like the New Pornographers (jangly pop/rock) would be my first choice to open for the FF. I could potentially see Voivod open for QoTSA though.

You guys ever read the user replies/comments section on Blabbermouth? HAHA! I always get a kick out of these... literally the dumbest of the dumbest metalheads fighting over any little thing they can grab a hold of! Especially if it has anything to do with Metallica!

This promoter's statements seem rather unprofessional... although I did get a kick out of the "my own bus" request line! It's almost as if he took this one right from this forum! BTW, I think the Foo Fighters line is a somewhat a figure of speech... as in "I would rather tour with anyone else as this deal is so crappy", etc... Fuck it! I didn't wait this many years to see the mighty Voivod (with Snake!) play a mere 20-minute set anyway!

I want a headlining tour with Enslaved and Mastodon in support! GIVE ME!

I wouldn't pay to see the almighty VOIVOD play a short set either. I'm glad they are waiting for a different tour where they would headline or maybe a bigger band to open for and get more exposure from and make the shotened set more benificial.

Yes people, it about money, and it makes sense to do it right and MAKE money and not LOSE it.

I like the Foo Fighters also but I don't think the combination works, and I'm sure it was just a band he chose off the cuff.

I'm actually having a hard time thinking of a big name act that fills lagre arenas, and would be a great combination with VOIVOD, to gain a bigger audience. Most of the acts I can think of are in the same situation as Voivod. Opening for Metallica would be interesting

Here is part of some Questions that 'Wookie' from Chophouse asked Jason...and his awnser.
I thought the awnser to the first question was funny!
I included the second one for all you U.K. nuts.

:::

There's a rumour flying around that one of the bands you're in is doing a gig with Metallica.... any truth?

JASONIC: No, but I do think they would be a good opening act.

When you planning to be playing over here in England again?

JASONIC: Next summer with Voivod.

:::

Thats it!

Metallica could learn a lot by opening for Voivod!!!

Like what it's like to be heavy and experimental and creative!!!

It surely will cause a lot of controversy here, but, on the opening act subject, I'd rather see Voivod opening for Pantera than FF or even Metallica, as suggested. They could start a tradition of bringing great metal bands to tour with them (Morbid Angel, v.g.).
