Well who else did you think would write it? (thanks for the idea ericTHEpinch, lol)

I just read Nate Carson's new Voivod Bio on vv.com, it's really well written (even if the font is diffcult to read ) and comprehensive, but not the complete inside scoop. For example, Voivod weren't really teenagers when they started (Piggy was 21, even the Americans recognize that as adulthood) and it's not really true that Eric stepped down - according to him, in his interview on Greg Godin's site, he was told the band was breaking up.

But those are minor points, my only real beef with this bio is the statement that Voivod were "somewhat foresaken in their homeland for deigning to sing in English instead of French."

That's not true. First of all their homeland is Canada, a country of two languages (primarily English). Second of all the Province of Québec was very supportive of Voivod, they achieved all the highs possible as a metal band - selling out the Spectrum for example. They weren't marketed to English Canada, but they didn't have any representation as they initially signed to a U.S. label. All of the self-promotion that went on in the early days was obviously in their own backyard, hence more people in Québec were tuned into them. That problem with this kind divisive statement is it gives the impression that francophones reject anything done in English and also discounts the number of Anglophones in the Province. Just my opinion.

Yes, I thought it was well written too. This story could definitely be turned into a book. IF, someone had access to the major players involved. Obviously Nate did not and I thought he did pretty good without these sources.

Hmmm...I wonder who could write this book? Someone with writing ability, someone who knows everybody involved(as in knowing it all), somebody with a huge collection of photos and memoribilia that the VV consumer would love to see on the pages, somebody who spends a lot of time in front of a computer, someone with enough hip appeal to smooth over everybody and get the necessary permission to write the damn thing.

Hmmm...I wonder who could do this?

NOITALL!!!!!!

I too very much enjoyed Nate's bio! A real nice update to Yuri's '96 bio (which I also very much liked). Noitall, why not drop Nate a line and ask him make a few corrections? Nate's cool as hell and I'm sure would appreciate any input from someone such as yourself... and this is web-publishing we're talking about here, as in "easy to change". I'm sure both Nate and Yuri would rather make minor adjustments rather than have a flawed, although still very good, bio online.

BTW - Has Nate ever posted on this site?

No, Nate has never posted here, and I sent send him an email already. I agree, he's very cool guy, and one of the more interesting people on the vv.com forum.

I believe that the reason he has never posted here may have something to do with the last incident which turned into a mad rush for VVF forum. He stuck with Yuri. Time for a peace offering.

Agreed. The main reason I came over here was 1. because Warcorpse invited me, and 2. Many of my favorite posters came over here and I wanted to continue to hang out with ya'll.

I've never had any issues with Yuri at all... In fact he's always been very cool with me! I love both Voivod sites and think each have their own purposes! I for one would love to see an end to the "cold war" of Vod sites!

Oh, i had issues with Yuri "My name's in the Phobos cd so i must be important!" Jossa.

First, the Blacky interview (that Greg did) ... his first in years, which took hours to translate, then he wrote somethin' like "i fixed all the grammatical errors".. Oh fuck you! Like you wouldve done a better job yourself... Boy was I ever fuckin' insulted! Like, i gave tons of hours for a band that i love, and you're gonna disrespect me for so-called "grammatical errors?" (not to mention that he posted that very interview on his website WITHOUT Greg givin' him the go-ahead... jackass). Shut the fuck up.

Then later when he wanted to get all sorts of things "out of kindness" meaning "I dont trade but since i run the official website i'm expecting free shit"... Fuck you too! I gave Blacky all sorts of vids from the time he was in the band out of kindness (dare i say friendship?) cuz he needed to have that stuff... not some asshole with a god complex who thinks he,s the only authority in all things Voivod.

Plus, that fuckin' imported faggot never even linked my fuckin' 'vod website when i ran it, but kept botherin' me for fuckin' photos and whatever. Fuck you again!

Yuri, i know you're reading this, so know that the Skul doesnt like you and never will.
Fuck off.

OMG!

(I think Skul is PISSED!)

There are quite valid issued there.
I am in no way qualified to comment further.

Can someone tell me where Yuri is from?
I am only curious about it.

Thanks for the criticism folks. All this came about because I asked permission of Away to write a book-length biography of Voivod, which I'd still be interested in pursuing. Although Michel seems to be completely behind the book, he has yet to grant me a single interview, hence all of my essay for the other site was based on research rather than direct information from the band.

I appreciate Noitall's comments and will take them into account when I make my next revision (very soon).

Thanks for taking the time to check it out, and believe me, I don't take sides between the two websites. Both are excellent resources on a band I truly love.

Hi Nate!

Great to see a post from you!

I really liked that Write-up!
You are really Talented, man.

I also have grown weary of the "Cold War" going on.

Think about it like this folks...

VOIVOD is such a great Band...they need TWO Websites!

Time to move on and get ready for some NEW VOIVOD!!! Great things on the Horizon.

Nate, I haven't had time to read the bio, but I would certainly buy a copy if it ever made it to print.

I can easily see Skull's point of view about the other site, as I also sent in some material, that I wanted to share, that never ended up on the site. Luckily I sent X-D a bunch of early shows and demos from an assortment of bands and he has done the proper thing with them by getting copies to other fans.

Warcorpse does not have a 'holier than thou' attititude and that's why I remain at this site, and promote it to other Vod fans. It's ashame that it had to come to this because it could have easily been a good union of the 2 sites; but, Warcorpse saw a problem happening and created a solution (a damn good one at that). There are manyPorcupine Tree sites from fans around the world (including mine) and everyones site has links to everyone elses site, even the 'official site' has links to all the fan sites. No one needs to be 'THE ONE' it's a unity of fans sharing what they enjoy about their favorite band. There's no reason this can't be the same for Voivod sites.

You guys have written more than enough on the subject.

Anyway, my impressions on Yuri, even not having anything against him really, aren't quite good. Not as bad as Skul's, but not good either.

Once I contacted him 'bout doin' an interview with anyone in the band for my humble brazilian website (being from Brazil and not belonging to the metal press does not make things like contacts that easy), so I asked him for any information on how to contact them (any member's e-mail, management e-mail or whatever). Voivod never had ANY support here in Brazil (press here are more concerned 'bout metal's latest trend, which, in Brazil, seems to be perpetually that Helloween-esque kind of crap, like Stratovarius or Rhapsody), so I thought it would be cool for someone to start it up.

I called the guy sometimes, but never got an answer. Maybe that's because I never shared cool stuff with him, who knows...

Anyway, nevermind. I'm also with the guys who want the end of this "Cold War". I actually think the two sites do a brilliant job on supporting our dearest band, and that's what matters, above any personal problem with who runs which site. No offense meant.

I could resurrect mine, eventually. It's all on disk, still. It wasnt the most complete site around but it had what i wanted on it, including a pretty large pictures section and various audio things (all from live bootlegs and the likes, nothing official). I cant really afford a dot com right now, either (what should I call it, anyway? www.yetanothervoivodfan.com? hehe)

Anyhoo.. keep your eyes peeled cuz it might come back sooner than you think!

I was going to build my own VOIVOD site, but am too stupid to figure out Dreamweaver Program.

I even have the name STUDIOVOD registered.
I will keep that name for the future when Science figures a way to give me my lost Brain Cells back.

Untill then though...i have the "Voivod Broom-Closet" as i call it.
Its a Yahoo Group Site...Voivod2003. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/voivod2003/

Just a personal place where i can share some MP3's and Pictures that i've mooched off the Internet. There is also an ADULT Folder.
The First VOIVOD Porno Place! HA!
(All in good Taste, of course.)

Although I have nothing personal against Yuri, I have also sent him VV material that he just never shared when he said he would. I bought the Nothingface tab book, and tabbed the songs into Guitar-Pro format, both for myself and to share with others. I asked Yuri if he could put them on his site, he said yes, and they never appeared...whatever.

I did send them to anyone who asked, and if anyone here wants them, email me at:

I can't say THANKS enough to Warcorpse for the creation of this great site.

I really don't have much time on the net, between working 50 - 55 hours a week (with no computer there), and home improvements, and trying to trade shows with others from around the world; however I always make time each day to get to this forum and see what's going on. I feel I'm amoungst friends and it's always a pleasure posting here and reading everyone's thoughts about a wide variety of topics. The fact that Blacky himself posts here is another added bonus!

Warcorpse keeps this site interesting and fresh and constantly updating and sharing new stuff (for lack of a better word).

If I took all this time and practiced my guitar I might know how to play it

Not really my cup of tea to call out names, ha...
Just to tell that my impressions about Yuri are not of the most excellent. I remember the fuss about the interview he "grabbed" from Greg's site... Later I sent him the hatross scan and the answer I got read "What do you want me to do with your file?". Ok, stick it up in your arse man. It was sept '01 and still it is not posted.
Now, I sent it to Warcorpse a few months ago and it was online within 24 hours! Shit, that's what I like. Corpse keeps his site alive and we all benefit from that, instead of waiting and waiting for any official news or any "slight move". More flexibility here.

Warcorpse recently asserted:

quote:
I say "the more Voivod sites the better".

I remember there were 5 or 6 Voivod sites when I first surfed the net back in 1997. I only have a few memories of Skul's site but I remember seeing lots of great pics on it (you've had 2 versons right?).
There also was Voivod.com (w/ Nothingface design), Greg's Forgotten in Space, Marcel Roy's Missing Sequences, another page by Seb, Away's Negatron site (with plenty of art), and later Away's Phobos site and then the "Voivod Interactive Website". Maybe more...

Hi.
Thanks to all the people who have posted "good words" about my website (the Forgotten in Space website)

Should I give you any infos about my relationship with Yuri ? No, I don't think so ... we should keep a P.M.A. (Positive Mental Attitude} right ?

Just to let you know that I have run a yahoogroups (named egroups and onelist groups in the past ..)
The link is
Yahoogroups

Right now it is not really active but in the past we have Away and later Blacky on this groups .... but as usual Away has never posted an email there !!

Away is away .... right now...
