Sad but true

quote:
from Launch.com:
(6/27/02, 6:30 p.m. ET) -- John Entwistle, bassist for the Who, died Thursday at age 57. Entwistle suffered a heart attack in his hotel room at the Hard Rock Hotel And Casino in Las Vegas, according to Clark County (Nevada) Fire Department spokesperson Bob Leinbach.

Seems like we're trapped in a deadly fucking downward spiral...

He had a heart attack at a hotel in Las Vegas. Bummer. Another one. What is it with this year? People are popping thier clogs all over the shop.

Also Jonny Morrow - vocalist with Iron Monkey - died over the weekend. 27 years young, and a guy I've shared a beer with.

Very sad news indeed. There was a time back in the seventies when I was but a young lad that I thought The Who were THE best band (period). Heck, I even prided myself on looking kind of modish! A freind of mine checked out one of their shows around the mid seventies when Keith Moon was also still alive and it just floored him! To this day he maintains that was the best concert he has ever attended! And this guy is a rabid Kiss fan also! Probably my most favorite song which John wrote is "My Wife". Rest in peace John.

Aye, tis a sad day.

We used to cover Boris the Spider - what a fucking great bassist he was!

(Entwhisle, not Boris.)

Jesus, Iron Monkey man dead?! He was younger than me! What did he die of, h? Was it a true rock n' roll death or, i dunno, fell down stairs?

The Who were a favorite of mine back
in the mid 70s. THe guy on CNN said
John Entwistle did not live excessively.
Not quite sure how he knows but he
did make that comment.

I bet I saw TOMMY a dozen times as
a teenager. I always loved how
Ann-Margaret swam around in those
beans & chocolate. I wonder how folks
would view that movie today. Probably
kinda stupid, but hell, at the time it was
pretty cool.

Well, the show must go on. Pino Palladino is a fretless bass legend in jazz circles. He once played on a Gary Numan album...

I was kind of shocked that they would go on with the tour also, but heard on the radio that they are doing so with the approval of his surviving family members. You know, "He would have wanted it that way."

I guess I understand doing a tour that was already scheduled and tickets sold...but if they do I tour as the WHO after this one I will loose a lot of respect for them. It's not like the band is writting new material, they are doing a 'greatest hits' tour for the fans, and to continue after this without John would be a slap in the face to his being in the band.

They just aren't the same without him.

I'd rather see a tour called Townshend and Daltrey, than to hear them use the band name to make money.

Actually I'd rather see Pete just go out on his own again and write new material...I've always enjoyed his solo work better than the WHO (not saying the WHO weren't great, mind you).

Not any disrespect for John, but I always thought they weren't the Who anymore when Keith Moon died.

Rest in peace, John.

Sure they weren't the same without Moon, but the band still was writting material and he died in the middle of their career, so it made sense to replace him.

Just like it made sense for Metallica to find a replacement for Cliff, and Gov't Mule to continue without Allen Woody...they were at the beginning of their career and had just starting buildng momentum, and a larger audience...you don't work that hard just to give it all up.

If they continue without John after this tour then they should join the Beach Boys tour!!!

From http://www.johnnymorrow.com (tribute site):
He had been undergoing kidney dialysis for several years, this put a lot of strain on his heart, whilst asleep on Saturday June 22nd he suffered a huge heart attack and didn't wake up.
